You missed one last big church in Salta, the Iglesia de la Viña, which is similar to the red and yellow one but blue and bigger. And also, what you have noticed about all towns having a main square in the center is not exclusive to Argentina, it is the typical Spansh colonial layout. The Spanish built all their towns in the American continent with a central square that would be surrounded by the main church and all the important government buildings, and then the town would grow around that.

An important tip 4 foreign tourist: these days the use of cards will be implemented at an exchange rate called dollar MEP, similar to dollar blue, but legal, 4 all foreign tourists

I think this is the one we heard about, hopefully this happens soon as it will save a lot of time and stress for tourists. We spent so much time on this during our months here this year.
@claudiomaxl81042 жыл бұрын
@@TideKnotTravellers It's inexplicable why it took so long to implement it, it's convenient 4 both tourists n the country: Tourists don't run the risk of receiving counterfeit bills when exchanging on the black market n government can now accumulate all those dollars in the Central Bank.

So awesome to see Argentina through your eyes. I think it's wild that you've been there for so long and there's still more to see and do. The blue dollar dance seems so annoying and a bit of a negative aspect or inconvenience. I hate carrying cash too when I travel. The scenery and landscape there is amazing so I look forward to some of the round-up videos you're going to do especially interested in the care hire and vegetarian tips.

Foreign credit cards now provide the Dollar Blue rate. Last month we had a two-week holiday in Argentina: BA, Ushuaia, El Calafate, and back to BA. We were informed by our tour guide for the Recoleta Cemetary that Visa pays the blue dollar rate. We had to pay by card to enter the Recoleta Cemetary as they don't accept cash. I used my Visa card and discovered that I was only charged GBP 4.74 entrance fee to the Recoleta Cemetery. I then started to use my Visa card and discovered that I was getting an exchange rate of AR$340 to 1 US$. Which is not too different from the current blue rate of AR$380 to 1 US$. We found lots of vegan restaurants and most other restaurants have at least a vegetarian option. We did not starve during our Argentine holiday! I'm planning a second visit to Argentina in October to check out Cordoba, Mendoza, and Salta as I'm looking for a place to retire in 2026.

What do you think….good place for a retired couple ?

It varied but we tried to draw out fairly large amounts each time because WU charges us a fee for each withdrawal. We would usually take out about £300-£500 or $380-$630 worth of pesos each time. There were no limits in most places around Argentina except in El Calafate in the South.

Thank you guys, amazing videos. If I would plan a tour of Argentina, what would be the best time of the year to do it and how much time should I allocate to different places?
@TideKnotTravellers Жыл бұрын
Great question! If you want to include Patagonia in the tour then around now to March would be the best time as the weather is best and after March some of the hiking trails in Patagonia are closed for safety. It’s hard to say how long in each place without knowing what you like doing but we would say however long you think you need always add on an extra day or two to allow for the South American way out here. Distances are vast leaving you more exhausted than you realise and things just all take a little longer so extra time and patience is needed to plan each part.

Liked this info. I disagree with using or promoting Airbnb. It drives up costs for locals by removing long term rentals from the local market. It's really unethical. try not to overpay when traveling, as it drives up prices for locals in general.
@TideKnotTravellers4 ай бұрын
We have to book Airbnbs because we need more space than a hotel room and also want to support small local businesses, we know in some places it’s a problem with our pricing locals too. It happens in our country a lot, it’s a difficult balance and is a shame when the numbers aren’t managed as there should be space for all.

argentina version of the civil war reenactment........its the same in every country. It's staged and quite frankly, I have to wonder if these performers are stuck in time. You always have to wonder if life was actually the way they are portraying it in modern times or is it a work of fiction. I always steer clear of reenactments no matter what country or what state. But thats just me. I like hanging out with street performers, much more natural and unforced. If you are expected to applaud, it's not for me. But apart from that, Salta looks nice. I think the climate is probably the best thing about Salta.

@TideKnotTravellers7 ай бұрын
Yes but in Europe every country has different languages so everything is usually written/explained in English too, even in Spain. However of course in South America Spanish is the main language so it is very different and many tourists don’t think about that because it is the only continent that is predominantly Spanish speaking. Travelling around other continents is completely different language wise to travelling countries in South America. That is why we make sure to explain this fact before people visit, we are constantly asked about it.

If you like volcanoes there is "Cerro Galán" in Catamarca province. After seeing satelite photos they relised that it was a volcano of 40 kilometers from north to south and 30 kilometers from east to west . The problem to visit it is that the lower you have to get is 4.500 meters above see level. Let's say the plateau from where it raises. Must go by 4x4 and experienced drivers cause volcanic rocks can slice a pneumatic like a hot knife through butter. More here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gal%C3%A1n
