Yeah, Sam’s videos make it look like he’s living it up on beaches and amazing places every single day. But then I read that he spent 500 hours editing the short film about his brother. I’m sure he enjoyed that labour of love, but that’s the hard work you don’t see behind all the glory scenes he puts together.

Success is an iceberg. Most of us only see the tip of it, but under the surface of it, all the behind the scenes, all of the sleepless nights, the times when they just want to give up, these are all the factors why they are right there at the top of the game. That they didn't became lucky or any bullshit excuse that most of us creates to defend ourselves. Thank you so much for this wonderful piece of content which is 100% true!

It's absurd that content we WANT to see gets unimaginable views while content we NEED to hear gets very few. This is so true especially in the social media generation that we live in. We make ourselves so unhappy by envying other people's highlights in their lives without considering the amount of work and dedication that allowed them to get there in the first place. We are a society of instant gratification.

Definitely true! I travel so much to shoot and people always think I'm on holiday. It does make me wish people didn't glamorise their film trips and not show the reality because it gets a lot of viewers down thinking these people on Instagram don't work hard and get things in life easily. There's beauty in struggle so not sure why it's so hidden
@VentureAddicts6 жыл бұрын
I wish I could shake your hand for that last sentence. There is more beauty in the struggle than people imagine. But because it's not shown you get this weird complex that work is bad and fake instagram holiday shots are good. Anyway I agree 1000% with everything you said. Appreciate the comment!

Just bumped into this video while getting bored of editing my travel video, what you mentioned is spot on and many people don't realize the amount of time behind an edit. I've never worked as a videograper or whatever, I've always had a regular 9 to 5 job and just go film whenever I can take a vacation, as many other youtubers do around here. I really respect the work full time videographers/photographers/filmmakers do just because it requires a lot of effort to make it to the level of getting paid for it.

This was such a well spoken video. Thank you for sharing. More people and younger people REALLY REALLY need this. One of the biggest complaints among employers and or other entrepreneurs mention in regards to working with millennials is that they don’t know how to work because they expect everything to come naturally. True success is rather very UNnatural. I don’t speak accusingly though, I feel I needed this info too as a reminder that I have to keep pushing even though things have been hard lately. Success is just around the corner to those who keep working for it.
@adamnelson48593 жыл бұрын
First of all, the term millennials is divisive and hypocritical. Every generation has a preceding generation that condescends to them and minimizes any genuine effort they make to advance their own lives the way way. You can go all the way back and it's the same, if you wanna play that game of who suffered more than I guess you're dad was way tougher than you. Oh, not to be accusatory, but I don't buy it for a goddamn minute. Ageism and ignorance is not just us. It's you. Especially if you don't understand why anyone that you're so casually dismissing as less hard-working than you hates your guts. Let's talk about the unobserved thing. Looks at the inflation rate. Look at the cost of a four year college on a timeline. Look at the disparity between cost of living and non-degree jobs those young people had to try and make work in the areas and situations they find themselves in. Don't minimize other people's struggle. Please. Be respectful of others as though they were CAPABLE of understanding you. Imma go fuckn meditate, with my shirt ON. Before I say something stupid I might regret.
@GMoney-B3 жыл бұрын
@@adamnelson4859 Dude, if you have your level of animosity and rage from my comment then that’s your problem. I hate the word triggered because it’s so overused but clearly something in my comment triggered the hell out of you. Why? I never said all millennials, in fact I just pointed out an actual fact and statistic that has been found many times that millennials are often (often meaning not always)found to not be as focused or driven as other generations in the work place. Also I am a millennial so clearly I am not saying all millennials. And in regards to the term millennial, I hate it too but guess what, to describe a tree you have to call it a tree for others to know what you’re talking about. I also don’t recall calling you personally out saying that you did not work your ass off since I’ve never seen you in person or online before, so what’s the issue? You assumed a heck of a lot from my comment that isn’t the case. So yes, I think you are on the right track with doing your jp Sears meditation session. Namaste 🙏🏻.

The other half of your time, where you actually do hava a lotof fun. It's always give or take. Two weeks hard work and then the next work is in two other weeks for example and then you have two weeks in between with your time. So yes, loads of work, I know, but only saying that it is all hustle is a bit of a stretch. Specially when the job you do is something you love.

No doubt do I think that travel vloggers work hard and spend tireless hours to make unique content but i think you’re forgetting the fact that most ppl would instantly trade places with travel vloggers to be able to go on the adventures they do. Getting to film exotic places that most ppl don’t get the chance to ever see in their lifetime is really a glorious job. And editing is hard and all but I think they’re really the lucky ones when it comes to that. Also a lot of the travel vloggers had a lot easier journey to making the amount of money they do vs going to college and working your ass off but still not getting a equal paying job. Also Let’s be honest. travel vloggers are usually the attractive ppl and I’m not saying that they have their career because they’re attractive but it’s a big factor. Overall I think normal ppl see the facade you’re taking about because they’d much rather have travel vloggers lives than spend their life stuck in a job that they hate.

@VentureAddicts6 жыл бұрын
I'd say client work is paying the bills 95% of the time from the really talented creators. In my opinion they don't show it on video because often times it's not super exciting. Take us for example. We went out to San Francisco recently and shot a corporate retreat for a company. It was the cinematic standing on top of a mountain stuff that a lot of viewers want to see. Same for guys like Kolder. Maybe the stuff that pays the bills is "boring". I could be wrong though

Sam Kolder was born in 1996, so he hasn't even spent a lot of time living. He happens to be a very naturally talented young guy, who no question sleeps very little. His drive has packed a ton of work into very little time. I think calling a filmmaker like him a travel vlogger though, is like calling the Vagabrothers filmmakers. That polished turd "East of Eden" they take credit for isn't actually their work (to be fair they did admit once to only acting in it, but since then they've just taken credit for the whole thing).
@VentureAddicts5 жыл бұрын
You are correct. Looking back now I could see it being valuable to make a bigger distinction between filmmaker and travel vlogger
