I think we should distinguish “high cheekbones” and “prominent cheekbones.” High/low cheekbones should refer to where the cheekbones sit on the face - whether more high up or lower down. “Prominent cheekbones” should refer to how much they jut out from the surrounding facial structure. Sometimes high and prominent cheekbones will still be covered by a layer of buccal fat (aka chubby cheeks).

Yeah I was going to say, I'm 23 and I have very prominent cheekbones as they are almost always visible, especially from the side but I do not think they are as high as on other peoples faces. That might be partially because I have a more oval/diamond face shape but still, they are definitely more prominent, especially because I do not have enough protrusion to have hollow cheeks. Cheek bones are so important to aesthetics. I never knew until I met my cousin. My cousin and I are nearly identical except she has prominent cheek bones. I was so used to East Asian aesthetics where cheekbones are actually shaved down. So never thought about it. I’m not into fillers so I’ve been trying to mimic the high cheekbones with makeup. Completely changed my contour technique to give the illusion. Makeup can’t replace real cheek bones but I’ve noticed people giving me more compliments lately now that I try to create cheek bones with highlight and contour. Doesn’t work on profile view but it’s enough for frontal view

@@hinnax.5489 most makeup videos are applying blush and contour on the highest parts of cheekbones and thats just dumb. turn your face to the side, find the highest points, use a minimal shimmer, quite light powder there. be more precise with contour and contour angle. and use lifting highlighter technique.
@NavierMasChannel
@NavierMasChannel 2 жыл бұрын
@@hinnax.5489 it’s like how any other instagrammer contours. The Asian way of contour is to shade the whole side of the jaw. The American way to contour is you do underneath the cheek bones, concealer under and the contour. Darken along the edges of the jaw. Then a highlight on cheek bones to make it pop. I find it’s important to put concealer under the cheekbone contour because it makes it pop out. Sorry if any of this is confusing. (In the following order; Highlight cheeks, contour the hollow underneath the cheekbones, concealer below that, then a line contour on the edge of the jaw.) Point being you don’t just contour the whole jaw, you need to add some dimension and highlight. Point being Asian contour doesn’t emphasize cheek bones. It’s just meant to slim down and give a v line face. I think the American instagrammer contour has an advantage in that they want cheekbones to pop, not just slim down the jaw.

Chewing and swallowing properly really helps. When you chew and keep it in the center of your mouth before swallowing with your throat, instead of filling up your cheeks with food, like most people, over time your buccinator muscles (cheeks) will attrophy/shrink, creating that 'hollow' look to contrast with your jaw and cheekbones, making them seem more prominent.

What matters more is shape, definition or overall prominence of the cheekbones rather than where they sit. How/where soft tissue rests also matters (e.g. bella hadid before and after PS). Cheekbone prominence right under the eye is a masculine feature (hence why most examples here are males), just like a really square or prominent jaw or chin. There was only one woman in this series who I felt truly had that look and the remainder of her bone structure was also fairly masculine, though beautiful indeed. Also wouldn't describe N. Oliveira's cheekbones as low set by any means. I looked at more of her photos and they actually quite high and bordering on masculine.

@@sakaue You can't say that in general. There are certain attributes that men and women need to get a model look. Studies show that in men it's the eyes and in women it's the nose that's more important. So depending on you have to see what glasses do for you. Mine makes my nose smaller and generally my midface more compact due to the position I wear it. The frame cuts my eye shape so well, since they have the same curve as my natural eyes, that my half hooded almond eyes look much more 3:1 ratio than without glasses. As a negative factor, it should be noted that my cheekbones don't look that prominent. You really have to look at what suits you and then estimate how much it benefits you.

@Call-me-Al Жыл бұрын
@@sakaue depends entirely on the style of glasses, which I am acutely aware of because normal glasses make my nose look bigger and I have to get glasses with a different inside curve towards the nose to make my nose look more normal. Different types of glasses styles flatter different kinds of faces. Few people look good with those stereotype aviator glasses for instance, they make most but not all people look uglier because their face doesn't have the proportions and angles to pull those shapes off well.

I'm Pakistani and I have incredibly high cheekbones and have seen others with them too. I think this is because most Pakistanis have a lot of Mongol, Turk, and Iranic ancestry whereas most Indians are Indo-Aryan and Dravidian. I think if I went to Karachi or Lahore, where most people are Indo-Aryan and closer to Indians, then I would see low cheekbones. But I live up in the North where people are closer to countries West of the Indian subcontinent.

And to answer your question about Sendhil, he has high cheekbones, but not defined cheekbones. Defined cheekbones are when they stick out and low facial fat helps with that. Defined cheekbones are attractive for all humans including South Asians.

Does anyone else just feel sick watching these? I find it fascinating but it just makes me sad. Like, I get it. I don't have a perfect face never did, never will. And even if I did it wouldn't cure my other host of things I need to fix about myself. When you really break it down, there's no real way to change the hand you were dealt. Sure we can all do hours of working out, expensive makeup, hair extensions, waxing, tweezing, tannint, and then trying to become less awkward/more social but then you have to put that all ontop of all the other real stuff you have to do. It never really ends and the bar keeps moving farther and farther away, not to mention the older you get the altogether harder it all becomes. I'm genuinely curious what everyone else thinks about all this? At what point do we give up?

That's the thing, your mindset on beauty is the key thing while watching these videos. I like understanding how humans work and how attractiveness varies region to region or feature to feature. You can even learn from it and take it as a task to self-improvement to look better. The one thing I keep in mind is everything in moderation... don't become too obsessed and binge-watch these videos but it doesn't hurt to learn. Beauty is a science. :P

You need to stop watching these. The perspective you're looking through is one of self hate. You are looking to criticize yourself because you'll never reach "perfection", but there's a reason very few people look like models. If everybody looked like that, they wouldn't be models, because they wouldn't be unique anymore. You do not need to look like a model to gain love from other people or have a happy life. You also don't need it to have approval for yourself, but that is a choice you can choose to make or not make. Is the love you show yourself conditioned on how you look? Do you want it to be? Or is watching these videos and having these standards self abuse? Would you treat a child like that, getting upset with them for not fitting beauty standards? Why do you have less compassion for yourself as opposed to others? You will never live a happy life if you are always criticizing yourself. Even models have some of the lowest self esteem on the planet from being exposed to the beauty industry, despite being the ones setting the "standard". You can choose to live a life full of constant self hate, but no matter how much you "improve" or change, there will always be more, because you look at yourself as something that needs to be fixed, so you will continue to have that perspective. You don't need to be fixed, you need to be loved. And you need to realize that other people's approval doesn't mean shit. "You could be the ripest, juiciest peach in the world, and someone is still going to hate peaches". But your own approval is the difference between health + happiness and misery + poverty consciousness relative to life. Think of yourself like a child. What would a child need to feel loved? Do that for yourself. Treat yourself with kindness. There are no standards you need to live by, except the ones you set (and perhaps legal ones), and you can choose to release them. What do you really want? To fit a standard, or to be loved regardless of that standard? Also, you will grow old and die anyway. Youth isn't forever unless you die young. Do you want to spend your life worrying about how you look? Is that how you want to spend your life? Or do you want to find people to connect with, a place to call home, inner peace? What does a child need? You are no different. You deserve that kindness and support, and you deserve it from yourself. (You deserve it from others to, but I think you are more unkind to yourself then others are towards you.)
@apollofateh324
@apollofateh324 2 жыл бұрын
@Bekas I understand that perspective, but looking at her profile picture, she doesn't fall out of the ordinary, and she looks kinda pretty to me, so I do not think she would have that kind of trouble. I understand what you mean though, but even in that case, if you were being discriminated against, surgery would likely be the only thing to help. Even then, watching these kinds of videos isn't going to do you any good anyway, so it's still not super helpful to be watching them (unless you're sending them to your doctor or something). You're right in that there is a difference between hating how you look vs other people treating you poorly because of it. My original comment wasn't aimed towards that crowd. If that's you, then a decision would have to be made whether or not to change, and if it would genuinely make your life easier to look differently. For some people it definitely does make life easier, but I also feel like a lot of people think they look worse then they really do simply because of things like social media/filters/advertisements. It would really depend on the person. Also, some people take it too far, and you can definitely tell they've had a lot done. It's like makeup, where you can use it to enhance what's already there and look more like yourself, or you can use it to try to cover up everything in an effort to fit the "ideal" and you kinda lose any humanness left (you've seen the people with lots of botox or fillers or obvious nose jobs or chin jobs, or even like how everyone looks the same in Korea after surgeries, or how it's trendy to look like a Kardashian). But there's a difference between that and something considered "corrective", so it really depends. Unless you are so far out there that people are discriminating, I feel like people need to be very careful with anything permanent, especially because trends change all the time.
