At a similar price as the rode pod mic, I would recommend the SE dynacaster dcm3 if you want the broadcast look, or mount a sm 57 or 58, Sennheiser e835 or SE v7. I've even used a digital reference drv200 from eBay ($20 shipped to my door) with excellent results! Thank you for this video!

before even watching.... please....don't run the cable over the knob on the side, you are putting unnecessary stress on the cable which can cause it to fail. Seen it happen twice before now in a studio where someone rips the cable out of the housing because it's over the screw

VERY good point (that we apparently missed while recording), I'm not sure how it ended up that way 😂 As the side-by-side we shot a few days later shows, we fixed that somewhere along the way haha

don't be 's' tup id, man! The sound from Sm7b is the best. I will buy it.

This channel will take off in a little bit. Great stuff. What audio interface do you use with the SM7B or just recommend?

@@pauldittus we’ve loved the original Rodecaster thus far, but definitely want to dive deeper into other interfaces. SM7bs in particular require so much gain that it’s hard to say for sure what works best without experience, but we’ve generally had super solid experiences with both zoom & tascam interfaces as well

@@BrainStemStudios thanks! appreciate it. I currently use a MOTU M2, but am looking for something with a few more ports (at least 4) for podcasting/music production. I've heard some people complain about some latency with the Rodecaster Pro II, but otherwise seems like a solid option for functionality it provides. I've also been eyeing some of the Tascam/Zoom for a more portable setup.

I am thinking of getting one of these legendary babes. Besides - the MV7 is a very good mic. I am not sure why it is mentioned that the SM7B is over-rated if it has a 50 year track record between the original vs. the B revision.

I'd say that the SM7B is more overpriced than overrated. It's a fantastic mic with a plethora of use cases (thus why we have a set of them in our studio and use them on most of our content), but I do think it can be the wrong place for a beginner to spend in a tighter budget.

I like the sm7b for voice when I can’t or don’t want to tweak the sound. When I can use DSP, I prefer the Re20. The PodMic is fine as well.

Yeah I saw some people in the comment section saying that SM7B needs "some" processing in order to sound good...but this "some" processing might be a pain in the ass to other people lol So anyone who wants to use this mic from scratch almost always needs to pair it with other gear or needs heavy post-processing...otherwise serious hiss is guaranteed.

What was that comparison with speaking more than 10cm/6inches away from the microphones 😂😂
@BrainStemStudios2 ай бұрын
For 99% of people that part of things doesn't really matter, but since our clients aren't always the best at staying as close as they should be, we wanted to highlight the performance differences in each mic at a borderline irrational distance 😂

I watch alot of audio gear folk they are always saying not to break the bank and buy the sm7b

Podmic sounds terrible up close, comparatively. There are other mics in the middle that sound much better.
