What I came to realize when people say "character", is a marketing way of saying their clinical imperfections.
@garrettsammons8 ай бұрын
LMAO! It definitely can be. Lenses though are artistically measured on a scale of clinical to character. Most high-end, expensive, cinema lenses are sold due to their unique and specific characteristics, even if they aren’t clinically perfect. Cooke is a great example of that kind of brand.
@noth606Ай бұрын
You mean to say 'optical imperfections' since lenses cannot have clinical imperfections. Lenses can be called clinical is they give a sterile clean perfect 'look' to the image, but that's where the use of the word 'clinical' ends. Different way of saying sort of what GS said.

2:34 I know this type of explanation is done to simplify things, but it confuses a lot of people. Length is length same as millimeters are millimeters. The *length* is not "based" on full frame or vistavision. Lenses just look like whatever they look on each sensor size you put them on. In this case, these look like what each of those focal lengths look like and have always looked like in cinema. Meaning, this 24mm gives you the same angle of view as what a 24mm did in [insert favorite classic film shot on super35.]

@razor4061 Жыл бұрын
I didn't like how you explained the focal lengths, you said they're not based on a full frame sensor and gave equivalents, but I think that explanation confuses more than just explaining that the s35 sensor is just smaller than a FF sensor, because the focal lengths are the same, just one looks wider than the other one because of the sensor size.
@garrettsammons Жыл бұрын
Sorry for the confusion! You’re absolutely right. These are super 35 lenses, meaning they do not cover full frame sensors. All lenses, with the exception of MFT, have focal length measured against full frame coverage. That’s why there’s a crop factor on these lenses, hence the listed equivalents. 🙏
@Bit-Riot9 ай бұрын
@@garrettsammons sorry so what do the MFT lenses measure against? MFT?
@gustavomazonave85366 күн бұрын
@Bit-RiotFocal length is one of the factors for FOV. The other is sensor size. So an MFT lens will only be "MFT only" if the image generated is small in diameter, so covers only MFT, not because of the focal length measurement. People use focal length instead of FOV and its always confusing, even using FF as reference even tho for cinema super35 has been standard

Hey Bunkertons! SIRUI didn’t pay me for the review and the lenses are going back to them now that the review is complete. I don’t let brands preview review videos or give input into the content of what I say/write. I make sure to be 100% honest in my reviews. Not having to purchase products up front allows me to review more things for the channel, while keeping my costs down. I hope that makes sense. I don’t want you to get the wrong idea of how/why I review gear 😊

Hello, will these lenses give exact focal length on a FX30? A bit confused, can you help with an answer?
@elliotjohnson64915 ай бұрын
No they will give a 1.56x crop on the listed focal length. As the focal length listed on the lenses are full frame equivalent numbers. So the 24mm, when put on the fx30, will have a focal length of somewhere around 37mm. Hope that helps
@anesudetroy5 ай бұрын
The 24mm will look like a 24mm lens, people trying to calculate a crop factor to compare it to full frame photography sensors are confusing others.
@askfullandstarving70063 ай бұрын
@@anesudetroy i think it's normal when many people calculate it to full frame , because it's easy and common to imagine in digital camera language.

@gustavomazonave85366 күн бұрын
Full frame equivalent is not "Actual focal length". People ise focal length when talking about FOV, wich is measured in degrees, and focal length is one factor while sensor size is the other. A lens focal length is the actual number written, the FOV will depend on the sensor size

Hey there! Sorry you thought that, but I SIRUI paid me no money, nor did they see the video until after it was uploaded.
