For someone just getting into bass skar has effectively changed the game. 2 12 SDR's in the Skar prefab get loud for what it is. When i show non bass heads its blows their mind. Good enough for 143s in my sedan on 1000 watt amp. If you spent $5-600 on a full package 10 years ago you did not get this loud. That being said all my good subs have custom or GP Tru Spec boxes. If your serious about bass custom is the only way to go.

@@zachjohnson1 Spending $510 at car toys or your local audio place doesn't get you much. For that plus tax you can get a pretty loud system. 2 12 SDRs with Rp1200 and wiring. Which is more than enough of a system for %95 of people. The only way I can build a better setup for the money is used, crazy sales or if I build the box. But people buying that don't have the knowledge for any of that.

These old heads are bitter. Skar is the best price per performance out at this moment. I've bought 2 of their prefab boxes and they were tuned as advertised...36-38Hz. Prefabs are known for being tuned way too high (45-55Hz) to get the spl numbers.

My VXf 15 is in a custom box and hits the lows really well. My vehicle gets enough pressure to hit the insides of my chest and throat. I had someone design it and I built it. Specs are 3.25 cubes net @ 31.5 hz, 13.5 in^2/cube of port area

I really don't know why people hate on them. I went to my buddy's shop last weekend and helped him tune his whole system and his two 15 inch ZVX D1's blew my mind! He had a custom enclosure made and he bought my SounDigital 5K from me. We had all the coils in series at 4 ohms (because of 2 ohm stable amp) and OMG.....he was pushing only 1,000 watts and it sounded like he had something a lot more expensive back there! When he gets more power on these, it's gonna get rowdy!

I just got their EVL-12 loaded enclosure and it hit hard as hell running off my CT Sounds CT3200.1D. The included box has 4 cubic feet of space and is tuned to 32Hz which is exactly what the subs specs call for. I do have full electrical upgrades and sound deadener pretty much everywhere as well so i know that plays a big part in how hard im able to make this hit. You can hear me coming from at least a mile away. I can't wait to see how hard it hots when I upgrade these to some Sundown 18s in a custom Russian Artic Birch enclosure next year.

I purchased the evl 18 and had a custom box built for it. Yes the box was about $150 more than the sub but that thang can grab some low notes and it travels up to 4 blocks on 1800 watts with a fine tuned epicenter of course

I got 3 zvx 12 in a slide in wall, double layered on all sides, box is tuned to 35hz but I got a custom 29hz slide in port made for it. Now that you mentioned that, it really isn’t a big port it’s kinda long tho. With that being said it plays relatively low for what it is. William utilizes a medium port for relatively small box which works well for him. They do go low quite well in a little larger box with a larger port but I am not a fan of large ports unless you are utilizing a high Q sub

Question....what does trhat look like a single layer baffle and not braced at all? The vxf isnt the lightest woofer and i woukd think it would need alil bracing or more thickness on the baffle. Just my thoughts...

Been listening on how far the port exit should be from a wall or back glass. 2012 Tahoe they are facing passenger side bolted down so I can use space of rear. 2 12 Type R Alpine, port from inside to port exit is 23’in. But only 5 inch to tailgate? What ya think? Appreciate the knowledge OG.

My son has the pre loaded sdr 12 box dual sub. The website says tuned to 32hz. The only way to keep them from unloading or bottoming out at rated power is to put the sub sonic filter at 35.

A cheaper, but less accurate method would be to play test tones and look at your cone excursion from 30hz to 40hz. See where its moving the least. If its across multiple frequencies, like 34, 35 and 36, then it's probably tuned to the middle one.

So I set the gains and dialed in the crossovers and he was happy. Until I put my q class l7 12 in my car. Him and his friends couldn't believe my one 12 plays lower and louder than his and his friends skars. His friend has a single 15. Both on a skar 1200 watt amp. My l7 gains are set at 700 watts with a little head room left on the volume knob for when you want to go full send.

Back in my day (2003-2005) I loved my Solo-Baric L7 15" pushed by a 1000w mono block with 8 fared cap in a 2.5 cu ft box with a single 3x12" port. It slammed the pictures off walls in a house across the street. It was in a 2005 scion xB. Or at least that is what I remember lol.. Are SKAR subs comparable? The thing about Skar is that their kind of generic and entry level. Kinda like generic vanilla ice cream. Some people are fine with that. Other people are willing to spend more money and get that good Bluebell Homemade Vanilla. MB is into that good stuff. Not a big fan of the cheaper generic stuff. So it's all up to you. If you're more interested in getting loud for a low price then Skar can be fine. If you have a higher budget and want something really well built, that's going to last, that's going to give you all that detail and low end extension in the bass, then you might look at the higher end subs.

Running two vxf 12s on cab 45 . Enclose its a gp audio custom 2cubes per after displacement. Tuned to 32hz. Not sure about the port area size but it sounds great and definitely gets extremely low. Only complaint/question i can build Enclose like crazy. Love to wood work but i dont understand the volume and tuning part.. The gp box has a shared chamber with a center port. Should there be some sort triangle or something to split the air flow. direct the air flow outwards of the port instead of the air from both subs slamming each other and forced out the port. Hope i explained and asked that right.

You need to upgrade your alternator first before you upgrade your battery or add batteries. A big 3 upgrade needs to go with it. So many people make this mistake. Voltage drop kills amps and speakers.

When I first bought my truck, I ran 2 ZVX 8s on a Skar 2K amp. I was always checking levels because it should've been louder. Swapped the amp to a B2 2500......Louder; Swapped the subs to the Gately Relentless.....LOUDER. To each their own, but i'm good on Skar 🤣🤣

Just wanted to share my experience with Skar and Kicker who i considered to be a top rated brand back in the day. I had no idea there was hate on Skar like Boss or Pyle, had I known I probably would have never tried these awesome speakers. I have been over driving the EVL since 2020. I have pushed that speaker way harder than any kicker I had prior. I ran Kicker Solo L7 and L5's since they came out with the square. The quality in the Solo line of subs drastically fell over the years. They started blowing much easier on the same amps. I got tired of buying a new sub for $200 every couple of months, so I decided to try Skar on the next one to blow. I was surprised at how much more sound I got for the money. I paid $285 for an EVL15 in the box in 2020. My Kicker was $440 for an lower end L7 12 in the box 10 years prior. The sub had been replaced countless times. Factory box to factory box the Skar was way louder. Boxes were close to the same size. I could justify Sundown, I just wanted enough to make my ears tickle. I am happy with my skar on a 1000watt amp. The amp claims 4,000 watts, but Big D wiz tested it and its pulling 1100 tops. I moved the amp from he kicker to the EVL, and got a smaller amp for the kicker. By the way I see you are a bass head look up Williston Audio labs on KZbin. Anyways thanks for posting. One day I hope to build my own box for space reason while keeping a good sound, but,,,, probably wont. .

Skar was considered to be an excellent brand back in the day. I recently watched a podcast and Jacob Fuller, founder of Sundown, talked about the truth about the Sundown/Skar history. He designed and manufactured the first two series of subs that Skar ever sold and that's the extent of it. So the first two series of Skar subs were really made by Sundown. They still sell a decent product at affordable prices but that's because they sell directly to the consumer and have cut out the middle man. Their higher end subs have USA made voice coils as well. They get so much hare because they try to make their subs look just like Sundown but they're not the same at all when you look at the engineering. They've even tried to get Sundown dealers to switch to them (before they cut out distributors) by telling them that their subs were the same thing (according to Jacob Fuller).

Does split port change the depth of the box. 2 15 DC audio lvl 3s can fit in a lot of trunks, they only takes 3 cubes each.

It all depends. Let's use the box in this video as an example. If you want to make a similar style box and you want the depth (front to rear of box) to be minimal, you want the port to be thin behind the sub. You could have a single 4" (roughly) wide port behind one of the subs or you could have two 2" wide ports behind each sub. This would shrink the box depth 2". So two thin ports can be an advantage.

Another option to get the smallest box possible is to ditch the slot port and go with an aero port. Depending on how big the opening to the trunk is, you may even need to build two separate enclosures that can be installed one at a time.

​@@khmer5475You might try getting some cardboard and tape and make a mock-up enclosure to see how big of a box you can get that is still able to fit through your trunk opening. Or mock up two smaller boxes and see if that will fit. I would also definitely use an aero port. They can be much smaller in surface area then a slot port and can help shrink your overall box size down. 7 to 10 square inches of port area per cube is doable when you have aeroports. The air velocity is higher but the flared ends keep things quiet to prevent chuffing noises. Plus it's really easy to change the length of the port to try out different tuning frequencies.

No but it’s definitely still louder and plays with way more authority than a sealed box, the horn enclosure is basically way more linear across multiple notes than a ported box ever can possibly be and the ported box is louder at the tune of the port than the horn enclosure can possibly be at the same bass note

I got 2 American Bass Godfather 15s. What you recommend for a box?

What do you charge for a box?

I know nothing about port area. I have a VXF 15 on an SKV2 1500.1 in a 33hz 4.25 cu ft "Concept Enclosures" box designed for a ZVX 15. I had it in a 3.25 cu ft box at first and switched to the 4.25 because the sub sounded like it couldn't breathe like it wanted to. I must say it sounds MUCH louder and deeper in the 4.25 cu ft box. The box specs lists the port tubes as 4" x 12.75" and it has two tubes. I don't know if that's good or bad in relation to the information in this video. If anyone knows more please let me know as I am open to getting as much out of this single sub as possible. I am also thinking of upgrading to a 5.5 cu ft box for aesthetics and performance purposes.

Yes a 4 cube or bigger is going to play & sound deeper, as for port area well it ready should be at least double that minimum so 4 ports in your case to help avoid port noise unless you only want to push a couple hundred watts or so. Personally i'd avoid going any bigger than 4.5 cube unless you want to crush just lows with ease on low power. Remember, the bigger the box the more group delay.

Not for SPL. Sealed boxes are more for SQ builds.

The VXF is the best SKAR sub, hands down. It will play low and still able to control the cone with a decent amplifier. I think that a vxf 12 in your box would be fackin awesome.

He's in Atlanta and can ship anywhere in the US and even some places overseas. As far as prices, you'll have to text him at the phone number in the video and talk to him about what box you need. Obviously, the bigger the box the more expensive it's going to be.
