I also design and build enclosures, without seat lifts I build them at around 1.55 to 1.65 depending on all displacements and at 49” wide using a 4” round side firing port at about 35hz I get around 7.5-8 cubic inches of port area per foot. I also think you could save on port displacement by using round port and much faster to install. Let me know what u think of this method I use because I also think it’s ridiculous cramming 4 subs with front firing port eating up all that internal space 👍

I was arguing with a guy on ig about that 8/9 sundown they just released. I said wat the purpose of it u might as well get a 10 or 12 . So the guy said 8 sub plays lower bass then 8 or 12 so i said not according to mbe the tuning of any sub is base off the enclosure that the sub is in . Is this a correct assumption or am i wrong

Tuning to a lower frequency doesn’t negate the higher ones. It allows you to go deeper while still hitting everything above cleanly as well as little lower.

You bot commenting on my fact your bathing was off though lol.. I think you went back watched what you said and how you said it and realized that was incorrect.. There is enough free software for box building out there that people should be able to get far enough in this playing with stuff to realize this… He’ll lot of these free trial versions actually will let you get far enough you can build quality boxes at proper tunes from them.. I use 2 different programs and both the free version and it works.. I can’t play with the port area to the point to se if I want 16.5 or 14.5 in the port.. but I then refer to custom boxes sold for the same subs. For example. I can take some DC lv3 and look at the gately box for those and see the port area they are using and duplicate that and fill in this blanks.. People too lazy to research stuff even when everything is no more then 5min goggle search away.. Now as for the later points of this video. What you’re saying is again wrong by math.. the larger piece of wood is also going to be shorter like I said before.. the actual volumn used is going to be the same no mater where or how you port the box.. port area is based on volumn.. Bro you know this cause this is why a single 8 needs a 50” port while 2 12’s need just 16” of port for the same area at the same time.. and for the front port box all you have to do is widen the port and you shorten the length.. You also know this… and when running two subs in a 50” wide box you can in some cases eliminate the 90 with widening.. not a fan of this cause although the math does say it should perform the same it does sound differently to the ear.. I’m a big fan of side port in trucks or in day a ram or tundra where you do have rear room based on how the seats and brackets are done even a rear port at times depending on if I got the room to go rear and get proper loading. Loading is sooo fn important to how it sounds inside a vehicle to the occupants and I don’t think enough people put emphasis on this.. loading is also why I’m not a fan of forward facing subs in a truck period but it’s also the only option wo a mega cab.. Again you already know this and this is why you ire them up.. it’s not cause of the seats baffling cause you fire them into them.. Anyone who’s built enough boxes in and traditional extended cab pickup knows the only way to fire them is up so you can load off the roof.. its also why we try to keep it below rear glass in that application cause it gives us close to the proper timing for wave deflection off used surface from roof to cone to port.. No different then firing subs up and porting rear in an suv and putting the box up against the rear 2 row seats.. Third rows are different and I’d argue prob the best case for a down fire tbh in terms of time alignment wo having tor spend 1k to fix things otherwise. It gets it close enough for the everyday person not doing sq.. I know you trying to teach some of this while at same time preserving some of the tricks of those that build boxes.. Trucks are so dangerous hard to get proper sound and pressure from.. to can talk till you’re blue.. give up all the secrets and 99.9% of people either don’t care or won’t understand how hard it is to get a proper box setup in a pickup vs a car or suv.. They don’t know how loading works to help cars and SUV’s.. vs a truck.. they don’t understand how cabin space of the vehicle effect the perceived sound or output.. or depth and richness of the bass.. Hell tbh.. I’ve got cars, suvs and trucks and work on all with all different side subs.. sub is easiest.. cars second and trucks are damn near mission impossible.. maybe an old school rip kit the jumper seats in the old extended cab and do a rear window down box and get 7-8cubs was the best tbh.. but that’s not how shit is anymore., I e doing 2 cubes under seats and 1.5-1.75 cubes regular cab behind seats.. Monumental challenge to get to sound good and get decent output, most the time you get output but it sounds like shit cause 10/10 subs in said application don’t work in said airspace.. But you need to get off this horse and get more basic on loading, different vehicle airspace’s and reflective wave hard surfaces and such.. I know ow people already don’t understand how a port takes air space from a box.. but they never going to get that.. you got to get vehicle type specific and explain why we do this type of box for this car and this type for this truck.. ect.. you’ll probably sell more SUV’s in the end lol,. They are the easiest to work with for loading cones and port properly,, and people with cars need to understand how to use a box and subs smaller so they can fold a rear seat down face the subs and port rear for loading and get proper wave teasition to the cabin wo the box taking up the entire area or facing the box forward as many d cause it looks cleaner and more custom when it fills the hole.. For 90% of vehicles.. best base depth, sound and spl is.. car.. fold a seat down; fire rear port rear and place the box against the back seat on opposite side of the folded seat.. Sug its fire up port rear to almost a 99.9% degree.. Trucks.. each is different.. most time front fire and side port is best.. but it varies soooo much based on the sub the power the truck the box etc.. ideal would be old school extended cab and fire up port front.. making it more like a small sub however in that situation you’ll build more interior pressure then sound.. you’re vehicle resonance will be in the high 50 to low 70 most of the time for max spl. But I will play from 30-70 fairly flat depending on some things with a +3-6 cabin rise bit the typical 12 if a most vehicles.. And let’s be real.. modern quad cab trucks suck period. You gain a little more cabin rise at say 6-8 db but the air space and limitations of the box are extreme. You have to do kick scores and open a door or drop a window 99% of the time to get the perceived war response you otherwise get from a sealed cabin in a car or sub.. let’s be honest.. any pickup do to limited loading options and cabin space will al ost always be louder spl wise outside then inside.. and when it’s got high pressure inside it can’t dig low or downs t sound low or loud.. Crack you passenger window in any truck tell me it doesn’t sound deeper more full and louder when you do? This is why.. it’s a math issue. Wave length back to ear. Ticks are fn hard to do right and make sound right.. the reason you need to tune a truck box to 33 or even 28 at times while a car or sub can be 42-47 is because of this.. a 47 tune box in a car will sound similar to a 33 in a truck cabin to your ear.. will generate more pressure and sound louder.. My daughter has a mid side car.. I used to drive a full size car.. my wife has a mid size sub.. I know have a truck. I’ve played around with all these scenarios and this just is what it is. My daughter’s car with a 1.75 net box with an evl of all things on 800w at 45 dogs deeper and performs better overall then my dual 10 dc audios in my truck with 1.1 net each at 35.. My wife has 2 8” down fire skar vd shallows on 500w in a box at 33 with 16 squat per.. in a sub.. sounds like I’m in the movie theater.. not loud but is deep rich and complete and can dig to the 20’s wo issue.. No keep in mind I got reprosseslrs on each of these. So a 80hz hit is a 40.. but there is so much more then just air space box and tune.. has a fn lot more to do with the vehicle and how the box is loaded.. not you can’t throw a 1.75 sub in a 1.25 box. You’ll get god sound at box tune but outside that say at a 35 that 45 note will sound like it’s at 80 even with a reprocessor.. so box does matter.. fire position for loading and port position for loading matters more.. and I’d argue cabinet airspace matters just as much,, This is why 2’8 under seat will outperform quad 8’s.. it’s not just box although that does mater a lot.. also has to do with all the rest of what I said.
