I've been a backer for a little over three years now, and the reason that I'm still around is that like you I'm confident that this game will be around for a very long time. So, I'm here for the long haul.

The problem is simple. Many people "invested" in this game - but they didn't buy with that mindset at all. They viewed the game as a preorder. When you invest in something you don't know about - like game design - then 5 years later when the most ambitious game ever envisioned isn't finished - they cry about it. Very loudly. I've said this before. Skyrim took about 5 years to make - that's a game with an established lore and world, and with recycled game mechanics. That's not an insult btw - I just mean the mechanics in Skyrim have been done before - archery - skill trees - fps melee weapons - etc. etc. Some slightly new things, but for the most part - with an already established world and lore, and how things should work and such and a fully established company with an already rabid fan-base . . . that game took 5 years. But CIG is supposed to go from kickstarter to fully developed most ambitious game ever - with a play area that is ridiculously larger than skyrim - that is made even larger (infinite) by procedural generation - in around the same time. We're talking custom locations the size of solar systems with unique lores, unique species, subfactions within those species that span several solar systems, entire cultures, art styles and more - and then there are more stories around how they interact - like when the Banu first encounter Sataball (an entirely made up sport for the game, visited by an entirely made up species.) The Elder Scrolls 5th installment Skyrim has lore like this too - but it was established over several several years and developments for multiple games . . . And that's just lore . . . that just so things have a bit of realness and richness - some context, etc. That's not even the actual gameplay yet Now for those of you saying things like "FPS has been done before" so bla bla -- well you can't say that and complain that "this game is too much like COD" at the same time . . . There is only one thing different here. CIG listens to your input, and you get to be there along the way as the game develops - unlike something like Skyrim, or BOTW for the switch, or whatever AAA title you want to use as an example. That's why we get ambitious and revolutionary features like walking around fighting FPS on a ship that is also flying and fighting in space. Guess what guys . . . that's kinda hard to make . . . Even though people bought this with the mindset of a preorder - they argue as if they actually "invested". People who actually invest and had that mindset - they don't go around spewing rhetoric about how bad the thing they invested in is . . . they don't want to actively hurt their own investment. If you want to brag about how much you put into the game - how about you put in some relevant verbiage . . . some thought . . . some solution . . . or at the very least keep your mouth shut while others invest their time in "your" game actually being good, revolutionary, etc. "Go faster" isn't helpful to anyone. lol. I don't think CIG made a mistake in marketing the game -- I think a lot of people made a mistake in buying it -- because they don't seem to value depth, quality, substance, etc. - or they at least had no idea what those things would actually require. It was marketed as precisely as your audience views it. Emotional, immersive, dreamy, awesome (as in inspiring awe, not . . . nvm), inspiring, revolutionary, etc. Even action and combat wasn't really sold as a "high octane experience". This game is Star Trek, not Star Wars - to use a metaphor of sorts. The irony is - the same sort of person who will complain about how skyrim or fallout 4 was "rushed" will then complain about this game taking too long. Its hard to take them serious. I knew about the game at its inception - its kickstarter. I didn't invest for a long while - but once I saw evidence that it would be at least worth a mid-range investment - an that a game would be completed, a good game, even if its not the perfect fever dream at launch - it WILL be a good game. I also did not invest a single dime into No Mans Sky for precisely the same deductions in the opposite direction . . . lol. Also . . . all this SC talk. Squadron 42 is the first game guys . . . shouldn't be expecting SC any time soon until S42 is out.

Thats not the only problem. people buyed in on a concept The problem is people were envisaging in there own concept. the dreamers. some people that it woud be arma in space, some may think it was more of a cod in space. and than you have the flight simulator guys that just want real life handling. or the Eve players that think of WAY more trading, or planetside players that in-visioned Dropping down to a planet in a drop pod and have giant war's probably just 20% even looked at the old games by cris if thay did you woud see less of the bitching that is going on. 3.0 will make it into a real game and will satisfy a LOT Of players, but i allready seen videos of people Bitching What will there just be 2~3 planets at 3.0 Bla Bla Bla The things i want am to work on. 1: Entering and exiting the ship without shooting off at light speed and having a ship spin at 3000RPM 2: i want AI Just basic ship AI so it wont fly off on its own, and have shield up Why? SC is kinda fun, What fucks it up is i do a mission i ping off and am done playing cos its just not fun having your ship spinning there Having its middle finger up at you like F U You shall not pass! Ps: sry dyslexic. PPS: cris has to be a dictator if your not it wont be your game. if you get good Tips or info use it Cris will get it WAY WAY Harder in 3.0 or after the banu defender Why? Cos Star Citizen is not ment to be balanced a jeep can't beat a tank Now its made balanced for all the ships, but what happens when this is going to chance and it will. there are already ships that suppose to be Way more OP. you see it back a little with the hornet and 1 other ship but there ment to be Combat ships and clearly be better than some rinky dink aurora.

People just need to learn patience, this is a massive game and takes a long time to make. I bought it in 2012 knowing that, and worst case I was out $60+. Now they have 150 million in crowd funding and are still pulling in 1+million a month. They have close to 400 employees(last time I checked), and I think they can pull off what they claim. I've stuck with it, upgraded my 300I to a 325A for better combat capabilities, and I am super excited for when it is finally done, and I can work my way up to a capital ship, build enterprises, and pirate to my heart's content.

the thing is, although other big games like gta 5 also took more then 5 years to come out, those other games have had a full crew, studio, money and goals to hit with these resources. when star citizen was announced at first, chris didnt even know how big his ressources would be one day. they changed the goals from month to month as the community and funding grew. as so did the studio team. it is more then logic that they first needed their time to clarify what they where going to do exactly. It is clear that all these tools they needed to develop and the things i previously mentioned where the causes that there was so little outcome of gameplay material for the backers in the first place. But after 5 years they throw out one milestone after another... because they finaly finished taking their time to clarify their goals, to finaly work as a productive team and because they now have the tools ready to implement all the awesome stuff. planetary landing, full star systems, fps/multicrew/and big capital ships all in one without loading screens, thanks to the container system, just to name a few... so everyone who complains about the long time it takes to make star citizen, keep in mind that it is by far the biggest game ever to come while being sculptured out of scratch. 5 years is not even close to the time where people are allowed to complain about too long developing time for this game.

I'm not sure if this has been said yet. But, the original investors of the game invested in a game that was marketed appropriately for what CIG thought they were going to do AT THE TIME. This is the on-going point of contention with certain people that are frustrated with the game. Because the beginnings of this game were no where near as large as this game has become. And those that are disappointed with the delay of the game otherwise, are really just a bunch of crybabies that have no idea how these things go. And feel that they are entitled to their game now. But, the whiny crybabies aside, the turning point for this game began with a poll abut 3-4 years ago?? Maybe. CIG formed a poll basically asking the community what CIG should do with the game. This is after they reached all of their stretch goals and realized that they were continually receiving money for new and bigger pledges. They asked basically this: Should we... A) Stop the development of newer assets and wrap up the game that we promised and marketed in our kickstarter campaign? OR: B) Should we continue to develop new assets and move forward with making the game bigger and more detailed, with more ships, planets and systems? Well with a landslide vote of 85% to 15%, the vote was to continue further development of the game and the universe within. And that was because CIG realized that certain technologies were becoming cheaper and easier to develop than they originally thought. Thy had some big name help from tech developers. And they realized that they could develop something far bigger and more detailed than anyone had ever attempted before. With that was when they offered to those that no longer wanted to be a part of the development process a refund of pledges within a certain time frame. And after that, well they just assumed that everyone else would be along for the ride. And from here I'll just refer back to the whiny crybabies that obviously have no clue how a game like this should be developed. And what a reasonable time frame for a game of this magnitude should be. Let's also bare in mind that in the middle of all of this CIG has had to build a brand new company from the ground up and has established four main offices globally. Which in and of itself is high praise enough for anyone. Oh! Yeah! And then they've been simultaneously building out and developing assets for a game that is a PLAYABLE ALPHA EXPERIENCE. Okay! I'm done. Nuff 'o that rant. Cheers!

One good point in terms of 'retail' release is that '100 systems" were estimated... the latest estimate is now somewhere between 50 to 75 systems will be ready upon 'retail' release. The remaining will be developed AFTER the 'retail release.'

I find it very interesting at how a crowd funded product, especially in video games, changes the consumer's expectations and reactions to the product along the product's development adventure. we have become beings that expect things to be done, done right, and done right away. we are not used to funding an idea and waiting for things to gel and become a 'thing' that can be used... we are used to parting with cash and having our thing now. now!! but, times have changed, and we have to wrap our dollar spending brains around this change and learn to put coin where we trust it will be worth the money, to teach ourselves to trust that the team will deliver, and to be patient and let the creators do just that... give them the time to create. creating things is an art form, and art takes time. lastly, we will all collectively need to learn from past crowd funded adventures so that next time you have better tools to help evaluate a product concept before investing coin in it... this is how we all learn to make better decisions in life. I am happy to have Chris's team work away and make the game we hope it will be, the game Chris has in his head, a game that will be a blast to play. keep at it Chris et. al. - we are all looking forward to what gets created... in the mean time, I will practice patience and enjoy what you've delivered to us up and until now. peace!

Yep. I've invested quite a lot of time and money into Star Citizen, and helping Chris and all those awesome people employed by CIG to realise their collective dream of the BDSSE... and I wouldn't take any of it back. I'm happily behind the project every step of the way, and my faith in the integrity of the project is absolute. 'Cos whether it takes another year, or another ten years, to reach the 'feature complete' state as originally described in the crowdfunding campaign and subsequent stretch goals, it's going to be the BDSSE when it reaches that state. I'm proud to call myself a Star Citizen, however cheesy that may sound.

Great video. We live in a time of pre-orders, and that's what a lot of people had in mind when they invested. They didn't realize they were investing in the game from the ground - up. They have developed new technology that will keep this game going for decades. It isn't even a slow process, they have actually made a lot of advancements in the time they have had... it's just that people aren't used to seeing the entire process. Most of the community is wonderful. The loud few are too loud, and have the wrong idea of what the game is/will be. I've been backing for 3+ years... and it's looking great. I don't have any doubts at all. I think a lot of people will shut up once 3.0 is out. I am already having a lot of fun, and I think 3.0 will really show people how far CIG has come with it. I love that CIG has been so open with the development. This is exactly how game making should be done.

StarCitizen is ground breaking in any way you look at it. They had some incredible actors fill the digital world with their talents. They have MR.OCD perfecto (Chris) make sure everything is as jaw dropping as possible. The game will be a quantum leap for the gaming history, NO DOUBT. But the extremely slow progress is what frustrates everybody. More gameplay and less WOW would be appreciated. HOWEVER, the game has been accessible in a stage you can't even call ALPHA, which is cool. ALSO, the details and community support that the crew offers is unprecedented. Patience young padawans, right? We will look back at this just like the Cyrus Field and his Transatlantic Cable and think how we could possibly have been so triggered and impatient for such an ambitious project. For those that can't even program a simple Tennis game, it would be hard to understand what it takes to put all these ones and zeros together. How many times they scrapped parts of the project just so Chris is happy and pleased with the end result. I find it honorable that he doesn't just rush ahead to please the majority.

Agree for sure with your theme. I'm all about the hype for how incredible this game will become, and how much it's got going already at this stage. I've been following the game seriously only about a year, and pledged only about 6 months ago. Just in those two time periods very obvious development leaps have been made that I feel guarantee this game is legitimate. Some of your arguments might be brushed off as something that could be said about most every mmo that hopes to stick around for years but falls short. If I bought in 5 years ago I might be upset by now too, so thank you early backers for helping get the project off the ground. That's what they should realize though, is that 2-5 years is a AAA title timeframe for a studio that already exists and has various backbones like engines and resources and staffing already in place. There are always bitter people on the internet, justified or not, some people devote a little bit more energy than healthy and can become really extreme in their opinions and need to voice them and be critical. Hopefully when 3.0 comes out in June-September the game will give everyone enough to play around with that there are no more big lulls that leave people getting bored and anxious.

Ah, Ah-hum... We had playable modules in 2013, we were promised the first chapter of Squadron 42, a SPACE SIM, in 2014. Then, we were promised a playable shooter ground combat module for 2015. Then, we were told that the first chapter of Squadron 42 would be 'ready' at the end of 2016, and that it would have some ground combat. Now, we are not even given potential release dates with 3.0 being pushed back, again. Notice a pattern? Yes, they want to make the 'best' game, but, that could realistically take FOREVER. Capice?

Actually its released info, GTA5 took 137 million $ to develop, and marketing costs were 128 million $. Just worried about these every day 1 hour videos they are making about "making of, bug smashers, whats new etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.", those dozens of people making those videos full time, and even more people doing these videos part time apart from their effort in developing the game itself. But guess it is just their way of marketing. It is just worrying that these high quality "making of videos" witch are usually watched like 1k-50k times, are less attractive to most people, while fan videos can hit up to 1-20 million views. So why to do these increasing numbers of "making of" videos if they are not even being watched by most people. Fan videos are marketing over 1000 fold more this game than these official "every day videos that 99% of gamers do not even understand and do not see interesting.
@iangrayson9930
@iangrayson9930 7 жыл бұрын
You make a good point, but I'd like to point out that the 'Making Of...' video updates like "Around the Verse" and "Bugsmashers" are separately subsidized by subscribers and don't cut into development cost or the pledge budget. I'm a subscriber, (you're welcome for funding the videos btw) and I find them to be a very informative insight into AAA game development that other publishers would view as anathema and wrap the whole thing up in NDA. That said, a lot of the commentary that's being dropped in the subsidiary videos (people such as BoredGamerUK, Noobifier or DaGaimez) is informed by and directly reference those first-hand videos that Star Citizen's official channel are releasing. It's viewed as canon information that's fit for commentary instead of being theory-crafting smoke and mirrors or your occasional W.A.G. That doesn't mean we don't need BoredGamer, Noobifier or DaGaimez - it just means that they're working from and interpreting (in some cases speculating) based on information that's much more solid than your typical pre-release game commentary. Think of it like a correspondent from a news broadcast interpreting and clarifying topics, or in cases summarizing them, for the broader viewership.

Yeah i understand that some people are interested who works or want to start working in game industry, but if it takes roughly 1 hour to edit 1 minute of high quality video into final product, and they get about 30k views per video(some citizen con videos are exceptions with around 300k views). And they have literally hundreds of these 10-60 min clips by now, and several comes every week, so they must cost several millions by now. Or are you saying that the people in these videos are not paid by RSI, and it is not off from the development budget, and made with their spare time only, and they get only paid by youtube pay per view, in that case they could not even afford their coffee with these views. At least i pledged just for the game to be made as good as it get, and wished the money not to be wasted in several hundreds of videos that are mostly interested by professionals in game industry, not by most of the gamers at all who have pledged. At least big games put their marketing budget straight in advertising straight to large crowds of gamers/consumers of their game. Have not seen any big game being marketed with hundreds of videos how the game was in production it is usually the opposite, they want to keep it secret. There will be several millions used in marketing anyway, after the game is complete, so just do not see the point why to waste tens of thousands of working hours/several hundred thousand $ just to give insight to those 30k game industry people how the game is being made (we made a door/table/coffee cup/helmet/20 different types of armor that looks like this, or how about this lightning effect on/off do you see the difference, hey we got stairs working, but still some animation needs work done) irrelevant for 99% of gamers, but still they put hundreds of hours to make these videos daily, and that worries me a lot, maybe they just got way more money from pledges so they just have to use it in something, even if its 50 million dollars in producing videos witch are irrelevant to most of the customers, made by some family member who have no skills in producing the game itself, but at least he get paid good to pay for his new family house and new tesla car for the expense of putting the money in producing better game. One of the most interesting videos they made was the ship making contest, because the contest promised to add at least the winner ship into game. In my eyes, most of these videos are useless and are directly cut off from producing the game more/better content. After every video i think "these 50 000 dollars used to this video could of been used to make new mission/event in game, but no, they are wasted into this video witch gives insight what problems they have encountered instead of solving it with this money used in this video(double cost)."

Gamers CUBEIXXI cross your fingers they don't find more blockers this week so Evo can get 3.0. Each bug smashed is another step closer is how I see it. I think people see a big cash number and think that translates to the speed of development. A lot of naysayers I see say something like "they have $140million, it should be finished." Although I haven't personally backed it yet I plan to in the next month. Love the look of the Aquila and wouldn't mind having one at launch.

Have not regarded a single dollar spent :) Love what CIG is doing. Only companies that get my undying support is CIG and CD Project Red. Only two gaming companies that have any integrity left.

I agree and hope that development of the game continues. I bought into it a few years ago and have a cutlass but I've been waiting until it gets out out the alfa stage before it get really into it. For me "finished" would the getting out of alfa and beta and having a base game upon which is expansions and content can be built on. That and Squadron 42 coming out.

Totally agree dude. The people complaining about it simply don't understand how games are made and how complex it can be. A game as revolutionary as Star Citizen is just not possible without this kind of funding and team behind it. Seriously...that planet side 3.0 demo was basically the most amazing thing I've ever seen in game dev and it's the kind of experience I've always wanted from a game.

Ambition isn't worth much without the ability to make it reality. What it comes down to is that fans think CIG can do it, haters think they can't. I think it's obvious that they can't, so obvious that it boggles my mind how people can believe in it... but whatever. What will prove me right or wrong, in my eyes, is Squadron 42. It's supposed to be an actual finished game without too many bugs, with a set gameplay sequence, story etc. If they can't create it, sure, I think they have an ability to be making games. I don't think they will be able to make SQ42. Or, at most, when it arrives sometime in 2020 it will be a highly scripted "The Order 1886-like" game with minimal interactivity. After that the project will be slowly winding down over the years and end up being "released" with minimal content and 20% of the advertised mechanics.

I badly want this game to be a reality and come out the way as promised, and you're going to get flak for this comment probably. But honestly, I can't see how people think the progress has been "so amazing." - my friend backed in 2012; I backed in 2013. In 2012 he only had a hangar. I had arena commander and racing modules in 2013/2014 (cant remember what year, it's been a while). Since then, 3 years. And, you can point to ATV and say "Look! Look!" I know they all want to believe, but truth be told, the game hasn't grown a hell of a lot. You really can't say it has. It's becoming more and more concerning that this game won't be what it was promised to be.

Their progress so far should show you it will be made. They have already developed tech that will ensure it lives a long life. Most of the time they have spent on it, was making the tools they needed to create it. This is because the tech didn't exist before. They have now completed the tools, and suddenly they are able to build more and build faster. They are suddenly able to make their schedules on time, or even early of late. The product is being created at an exponential rate. It is no longer the slow development people are whining about.

I went to school for video game design, this game IS trying to do alot, but it is feasible. Right now all they have is the base of the game, but its a really good base. Some parts of it are gonna take longer because the pieces dont fit as easy the more complicated the whole is, but given time it can come together.

Fun thing to remember - Mass Effect: Andromeda - $50 million. Y'all hated it (don't really know why, I thought the game was pretty neat.) Grand Theft Auto 5 - similar budget to Star Citizen (not including marketing) - amazing game, but a formula that's been done several times before - they knew what they were making as they have made it before Star Citizen - $150m - let's face it, this shit hasn't been done before. not all of it at the same time. If it had been done before, this project wouldn't have stirred the community up as much as it has. Plenty of reasons to doubt it, but come on - it isn't a scam, it's a risk. Wouldn't people rather this game succeed than fail? Think about how awesome it's success would be! *Monetary claims are approximate - I can't be assed looking up the actual amount

Great video, and you made a lot of great points. The main problem seems to be people thinking of this game as they do any other game. But this is something different and game-changing (no pun intended). Something like World of Warcraft comes to mind, how that game changed everything in regard to MMOs. This is the next level of that, and I'm sure there will be countless other companies trying to copy what Star Citizen is doing for another 10 years.

When I see the massive scale of this game I imagine they are trying to create a "Matrix" type world that is so realistic and complete and that takes either a highly advanced robot race or humans with lots of money and resources, oh and a lot of time. At least they don't treat us like mushrooms, like other space sim developers.

Nice vid, not sure saying "I am different from all other content creators as you can comment on these things" is fair. One of the biggest pluses in all the community is the varied opinions and the fact they give that feedback. That said I agree with your synopsis of the game. For me it has been my most played game since 2.0 (I've backed since 2014 but followed it since 2012). To invest in a project you have to believe in the company and creator. This is why at the time I chose to back I chose star citizen over Elite or no mans sky. Chris Roberts is that reason. Most of the bitterness and vitriol you here has no grounds anymore and when 3.0 launches (I would say for gamescom) I think most of that will go away. I also for the same reason you stated think this is a game you can play now. The fact it will always be in development means there is no harm in getting on board now. It amazes me that every time I go on the PU there are people asking how to questions. There are already new people coming into the game. I believe as soon as SQ42 launches then all financial questions will also go away. The fact there are no producers behind this means all profits go back into the game. (Hopefully a big yearly bonus to all the Devs too). Last year (3 years after release) GTA V netted $750M. If CIG can make half that from SQ42 then they can keep the 400+ Devs to continue the content and growth of star citizen as well as developing parts 2&3. Thanks for the vid and see you in the verse.

I know it's not a politically correct word today but this applies. "Personal responsibility." Kickstarter or any crowdfunding platform is not a 'purchase' or even an 'investment'. It's a donation for something that you believe in and as soon as you give them your money all they owe you is your 'reward levels' but they don't owe you dates or specific scopes. "Personal responsibility" is the concept that trumps any success or failure. Too often people don't research, don't do their homework and learn after the fact the nature of what they put their money into.

totally agree that it did. Even so the original idea isn't something that is "owed" in the crowd funding model. at the end of the day, the original backers will get their rewards, SQ 42 or SC, but the concept that you get the rewards at the original promised date doesn't exist contractually or legally under the crowdfunded model. very often scopes get expanded and delays happen. MGS 5, in total, took 8 years to develop and 80 mil to develop including concepts and building the unique engine that came with it. A more modest example and yet even that was "force-launched" unfinished. A publisher (Konami) will do that. Nature of that beast, the alternative to the SC model is Mass Effect: Andromeda.

Maybe this game would probably the highest investment of money through crowdfunding, than any others. People that invest their money, need to believe into it and have alot of passion. Maybe there's even a quantum processor needed for it, or other new yet unknown pc-tech in the future, but that depends on how long this game is before being finished.

I have been dealing with dickheads in the community since day 1, people have no idea how far this has come since we waited for a hanger module. Cig is not perfect they have had their problems over the years, but the real problem is people won't discuss issues as adults and as such, you can never have an adult discussion when a problem does exist. For me, I brought ARK and 7 days to die and other games over the years to keep me as a gamer happy whilst this is in development. A gripe I have with SC is the redesign of the freelancer I loved the original design, plain and simple, back when they did it I tried to start an adult discussion about the redesign I ended up deleting the entire thread it got that nasty towards me, and it was originally an innocent comment about how the ship looked more like a lived in truck/campervan. That's the community sadly.

Rickbearcat, you need to calm down and check your medications and maybe go have a cry or something. I know you think you are being reasonable and making sense, but your posts are angry gibberish. You pull wild figures out of thin air and call them estimations and keep attacking everyone and everything in SC even though calm people see more progress every week and lots of fun things to do in the PU as well as AC and SM. CIG is trying to raise more money and make more ships, not attack your wallet like some money-rapist. In your state of mind, no one is going to listen to a word you say, so calm down and come back later when you have yourself under control or keep this up and all the adults are just going to keep laughing at a pathetic troll.

I think the reason a lot of people complain about the game not coming out is that CIG keeps promising the game to come out on specific timelines, yet has blown every deadline to date. If the point if to keep developing into perpetuity, stop promising release dates and just tell that. I hope this game does succeed, but the need to be transparent with player base. Certain elements of the community are toxic as well, it keeps newbs from wanting to get into the game when they feel like they can't be part of the community.

The problem with atr citizen is that yeas we know that the game should take a long time, but for now they were way more efficient to create a hype around what they show instead of about what they gave to us. with the scope they want for a commercial release we dnt even have 20 percent of the game they want fpor a commercial release. Im in since 2013 and there were so much hype around stuuf they showed us but are not even in the game yet. they showed a constellation landing in arc corp in 2014. they showed caracter developpement in early 2015.. I also know that when the commercial release will be out the game wont be finished yet, but i just wondering that when we will get a satifying experince without to much bugs i think that at the way they are roling big content out we wont see the commecial rease of the game since 2020 or 21 and we can already see that they make way less money than before. they have barely make 1 million with the last 2 sales. backers begins to hav the tired wallet and if the come to a point where they run out of money before a commercial release wer are done. they have redone so much thing that they put money into and was not enought good to make int the game.

Thank you for coming at this game with a professional and fresh approach. I have been a backer for going on three years now and feel frustrated when I see the negativity going on in the community. I think we need to stop looking at Star Citizen as a game, with the complexity and heavy software engineering it is better describes as a Virtual Universe or maybe a Space Entertainment Conglomerate. 😂 As for the fair weather backers, they need to get realistic. I have faith In Chris and the Cloud team, and I am intrigued to see how they will implement the first economy and the initial resource field. It might be touch and go for a few patches. I am very interested in a player based economy, people play the game and people make the game, why would we spoil any of that by Introducing AI where it doesn't belong. I watched the 4 days of showroom gameplay from Gamescon and I have to ask, why didn't they invite you to this event? I was more frustrated with the immature and self gratification we all witnessed by the less than mature streamers who seem more apt to be streaming Minecraft than a game with the scope of Star Citizen. I appreciate your no nonsense approach and clean, mature sensibility. I personally appreciate the general clean language. Thank you for leading this community of backers who don't have the schedules to research every facet of the game and coming about it the way you do. o7

Chris Robbers just killed refunds. He claims that the release of 3.0 for evocati is a major leap forward and meets the MVP delivery early access therefore no more refunds are given. Bullshit. It's a rip off since most people paid for 2 complete games in their minds and in the eyes of the law. Something must be given in exchange for the cash people gave him. It's going to blow up on Robbers. The backlash will drive off any prospective new people. Yes they are teetering on insolvency, this is why they had to take those 2 loans and why they were forced to do this buggy as hell 3.0 release even though it makes Chris Robbers look bad after 6 years of development and 160 million. Robbers will be dragged into court or have another AG slap him around and will be forced to restore refunds. He may be running out of money fast but that is not the responsibility of the backers. Let him put HIS OWN money into the development, then he won't be wasteful and buy space doors.

Whether they are "separate" or not, you clearly CAN see the core game mechanics at this point....If you can't, you simply are blind. P.S. If you know game dev, you'd know that it's much easier to make a game in separate pieces because you have less major bugs to deal it which means less bugs overall when they piece them together.

That's potentially the worst analogy I can imagine for game design. All the core elements of the game are working and are available to play test so no, it's not anything like parts of a car; they are all functional and give a very good idea of the core game mechanics.

Rickbearcat what are you saying? they ARE playable lol. the CORE mechanics of the game are playable. You must be blind or something if you can't see it. You also seem to assume that a game just magically is enjoyable and complete during development. If core mechanics are meaningless to you, than the game is meaningless as well, because apparently there isn't a process to things and if it isn't all complete when developing, it's not meaningful. That's a really foolish way of looking at it.

and you can see in the ratings that a hater wave came through here without even watching the video. appart from that I feel you made a very good analysis of SC. I am growing tiered of people blindly following what publisher medias are telling them and never doing any research. on top of that, a lot of people seems to turn off their brains with SC and somehow stop reasoning like it is working like any other game. SC is not allowed to take the development time of a normal game BECAUSE it is SC, SC is not allowed to have rewrites and changes to the formula BECAUSE it is SC. I don't understand that. I realy don't. it is not hard to see how those guys are working their ass off to produce a kind of quality we lost to greedyness. and people still find ways to be dumb about it. SC is not for everyone but you need to be blind to not see how much work and inovation has already came out from SC.

DaGaimez thanks! just like people that try their best to instore a debate. it is always hard to make people overcome the image they have of the opposition while most of the time complainers and white knights are all enthusiasts that just want the game to suceed. it is hard, and on some subjects like elite, ship sales or dev time to avoid the name calling. I just like people that try to promote honest criticism over hype clouding or false claims.
