Something else that NBA fans don't seem to realy know about him: he's the son of a famous French basketball player, Stéphane, who had a long and fruitful career including winning a silver medal in the Olympics in Sydney 2000, playing 34 minutes out of 40 (the most out of any player) in a close loss to the USA. Zaccharie has got some of his father's basketball IQ and is FOR SURE well-rounded and well-grounded. He's been in a profesionnal basketball environment literally his entire life! I agree that he seems to lack the "killer instinct" that makes the franchise players but he will be a great all-around player, give him time to develop.

After a couple summer league games, the most impressive thing I've seen from Zacch is his ability to navigate the court It reminds me (in a weird way) of Luka Garza when he was at Iowa. Garza was just constantly in the exact right spot for the ball to wind up in his hands in scoring position. Despite not being good at really anything else, that alone won him college player of the year. Watching Zacch I'm seeing him do the same thing off-ball on offense (but everywhere on the floor, not just under the basket like Garza) where he's just always in a spot where he could score if given the ball. Good lord when he has Trae Young and Jalen Johnson passing him the ball instead of Nikola Djurisic and Keaton Wallance....watch out

I think the self creation concerns are really all secondary. The real question to ask is that, is the shooting overrated? Last season was the only season he shot over 35% from 3, and that's after blistering start where he shot almost 45% for 3 month. His freethrow percentage, both for his career and last season were in the less than impressive low 70% range. It is entirely fair to be a little nervous if his greatest strength on offense don't end up being a strength right away. Without the great shooting as foundation, a lot of the theoretical auxiliary upside for creation kind of crumbles

my issue is not with the player its the fit. The hawks are supposedly are in win now mode. We are insanely small, with a aging center who is a shell of a defender that he used to be. We NEED BIGS! and have no cap sopace for free agents. I wish we would have flipped this pick for multiple game changing defender ( We could have got Clingon, Holland and possible Ryan Dunn ) that could help immediatly. Yea sure down the road he might be solid. But he does nothing to make us better now, and we have no assits or cap space to build only the trade market. This was a chance for us to get two solid holes filled and instead hes in na crowded front court fighting for minutes.

He looks all the parts of another high level, intelligent Europe product. The Hawks literally could have picked whoever they wanted. They drafted a crafty, tall, shooter that can play defense and most importantly fit in right now. We didn't need a flashy #1 pick because we have that with Jalen Johnson. I love the way this team is shaping up. Improve on defense or hold the ball longer on offense for better shots and game control - ideally both because ZR fits a winning team... He will be a better version of Boris Diaw/Nic Batum. Pleaseeee just get a true center. Can we not get Vucevic from a rebuilding Bulls team? Instant top 3 team in the EC.

I was telling people not to sleep on the Hawks! Trae is still Trae. And trading Murray for any starting caliber 2 would have been a good move because he did not fit on this Hawks team. But Dyson being THIS GOOD especially on defense, and the addition of a young, athletic, lanky forward to run with Dyson and Trae, has been good for this team. Even is Zachary is never a 50/40 guy that puts up 20-25 a night he could still be an above average player that helps this team win. And that’s all you could ask for with this draft class (Besides Jared McCain looking like the love-child of Steph Curry and Jalen Brunson).
@dustinsirios31445 ай бұрын
I mean I didn't love the pick i much preferred them to take Sarr. With that said however you have a point a tall 3 point bomber that should be an average at worst rebounder and an average at worst defender, you could do worse. But to me the perfect Atlanta Plan (tho really controversial) would have been to 1) Trade Clint Capella to the Warriors and get yourself Wiggins and Kuminga. The Dubs wanted to keep Klay and are desperate for cap relief and a big man, this could have gotten done. 2) Draft Alex Sarr - your front court is now 2 insane athletic tall wings in Kuminga and Johnson and then you got Sarr. Your front court is young and dynamic. 3) Trade Trae young for all your picks back to San Antonio plus cap filler. Not 1000% San Antionio does this but i think you can find a way to get your picks back and filler from them. 4) Trade Hunter and Bogey for picks and young depth. New Team Murray, Wiggins, Kuminga, Johnson, Sarr with Oneyka and resign Bey coming off the bench and what ever cap filler you get for Hunter or Bogey. This should be a decent enough defensive team an extremely young and athletic team with a ton of cap room and all their picks back.

As a hawks fan: The thing with Zach is that he's the type of player that its either superstar or bust with him theres no in between, kinda like cam reddish, and our concern is that if he becomes a bust it will be a waste of a 1st pick that everybody damn well knows we wont be getting another in the next 30 years. I know this draft doesnt have a consensus projected star player and everybody says its a role players draft but every draft in the last 20 years featured at least 1 all-nba guy, and we know we'll never win with trae as a 1st option and on the other side of the spectrum he's the only all-nba caliber player we've had since DOMINIQUE WILKINS, like cmon now, we cant be picking as if we got a top 3 pick every year like the Rockets our future is already in the hands of the spurs and we dealt DJ for a bag of chips😭 We are not a tanking type organization and if were good enough to be mediocre and get in the play-in thats what we'll do alongside the (Pacers, Jazz, Heat, Kings,Nets and Clippers) so when you get the 1st pick you gotta make the most of it maybe even turn into more 1st rounders ... Man the Hawks will make me go to therapy😂...

As a hawk fan I’m good with pick but we should keep Murray at pg and traded young capela and hunter and then got a great big man and shooting guard then we would been good

as a flip comment kinda love the Murray trade for the Pelicans. Getting Murray in moves CJ off the point and should allow them to now look to trade both CJ and Ingram. The starting lineup for the Pels needs to have Murphy in it. Maybe look to the cavs try to trade Ingram and a pick to them for Jarret Allen. Cavs probs need to break up the Allen Mobley pairing may be willing to do this. Then look to a team that needs a shooter and to unload a contract for CJ just looking for 2-3 depth pieces really. Not sure who but a Murray, Murphy, herb Jones, Zion, Allen starting 5 is looking real good and surprisingly not that expensive right now. You actually get a bunch of cap space to go out and fill out your bench.

I don't get the hate, I think he could become an MPJ type player. With that comparison though, he will be a better passer and defender than MPJ is, maybe not the same level of shooter but not too far below that. Not many people can shoot like MPJ though so even still he will be great.

Biggest problem for Hawks during "Trae Young era" is Trae Young.
