Personal opinion but keep the 500 to yourself mate, I remember seeing your post in discord about busting your ass off to keep the lights on and you for sure did exactly that with the contest. Even though I didn't nominate, it was for me still quite fun to participate. I met quite a few really friendly people (including you Seethrew) and got a taste of the community. There were a few sore losers, but that's to be expected when there is prize money. I do think the contest could have been organized better, but I am happy that Keengames admitted that it wasn't perfect and that they are going to take feedback on board for future contests.

I really appreciate the clarification. As you've been to Chiselchip's video and seen the comments, I was miffed about how the competition was run and felt that too much of it was 'in the dark'. Understanding the mismanagement of it being down to Kyber and Rubius shows what a mistake Keen made in simply handing them the keys to the whole thing. I hope they take a more active role in managing any future competitions. Congrats on the nomination and once again, thank you for clearing things up. p.s. even though I watched the whole video I seem to have missed the part you promised to explain Rubius's slip-up that you screenshot? was that intentional? to hype his audience?

No it wasn't intentional. He showed the winners, before the winners were decided. Just meaning for everyone that thought the discord vote was stupid, it ultimately didn't matter because the winner was already chosen before the stream....... I did talk about this in the video..

Was working when this contest was going on. Really liked your summary of it. Think its awesome that you placed. They definitely have some streamlining/improvements to do to make the contest better. Your 100% right. Don't just bash the people responsible be constructively critical. The more people playing the game the better the game will do and the better the game will get, which is basically what we all want. Anyway cheers my dood!!!!!

good greakdown but like me and others still lots of speculation about judging etc but as a whole this was the worst competition i think i have seen play out, and that is firmly caused by keen games, sponsering is literally providing the funds? so of course they are responsible, they should have vetted who they were partnering with properly, i wouldnt let any marketing company use my name or be in partnership with unless i expliclity set the correct terms and procedures, this is not some small team with their first game, they have been in buissness along time now, they need to come out and apolagise then sure people can move on.

Well, that certainly clears things up for me. I didn't have any reasonable expectations of winning the contest, as I just didn't have time to finish the project I was working on. Had they given, say, 30 days notice, I would have started something new, honestly. Depending on Twitter and then Discord (two horrible platforms) to run a contest seemed pretty sketchy, so I'm glad to hear this wasn't directly Keen, but I do hope in the future they will run any contests themselves and more thought/effort will be put into it. Again, though, congratulations, man. I appreciate your hard work and I thank you for putting this explanation together. I guess I would never have known the backstory if you hadn't posted this.

The problem with 30 days, is its too long, you would have a complete build in 30 days, but the sweats would have done created their own game by then, if that makes sense.

@@seethrew Yeah maybe 30 days is too much. My first three projects were just me trying to figure out how and what to build in the game (and my "entry" was the third.) All 3 have been basically abandoned, and I'm working on something I'd be happy to enter with now as long as I don't have to sign up for tiktok or something stupid like that.

A very clear and straight to the point of how most marketing takes place. There is almost always a middleman(marketing company, streaming team or other business entities) involved in things like this. Not to mention possible sponsors and brand partners. Essentially this is a successful marketing campaign for Keen for a pretty decent price point I would imagine.

oh yeah fore sure, 30k to reach essentially 60 million people? thats a great deal! ad's are typically around $2,000 usd to reach around 100k people.

@@seethrew I’m a marketing manager in VR gaming, my campaigns cost roughly 30k and the most we will reach is 4-5 Million. They’ve had a great deal if they’ve had a Reach of 60M! And for sure, for some the big like this we always work with an external marketing agency

There are a lot of ways a build contest in the future can be made better; hopefully, Keen learned some lessons. One thing that is at risk of being lost in all this: the gaming community has some amazing artists!!! Would love to see Keen do an Enshrouded "cribs" series on their youtube channel. Ive never seen anyone use Ai with live open documents to visually explain their point - it works very well. That aside, thanks for taking the time to explain very clearly the events from conception to completion in such a way I could understand clearly and you did it without prejudice. Great video thanks

I can't say anything about what may or may not have happened with judging but: of course people are going to wait until the deadline to enter. It's a deadline. That means they should accept all entries in by the time they published and treat them the same. If what you said is that they started on day 2 or 3 to judge then that's major malfeasance on their part. I wasn't there but if that's what happened then they screwed up big time. If they didn't give themselves enough time to judge the entries after the deadline then that's also their fault. So, if what you're saying is true... the contest can't be said to be fair. Not even remotely.

Also, a contest in legally required to not be scripted. At least in the USA, so if it was open to USA entrants then they have legal standards to meet. And I doubt there's much difference with the laws where they're from.

The contest was good, the reveal was scripted. Like I mentioned, the winners were picked before the stream started.

As for the deadline, they should have just announced and said: post what you got since release. No deadline. All at once. Lots of frustration could have been avoided.

I don't know what they did for judging, really sounds like it depends who you ask, hehe. I'm just saying IF they didn't wait until all submissions were in then there's some trouble they can get into. That's the whole point in having a deadline after all, it's how you clearly communicate the end of the contest/competition. If there is an arbitrary and uncommunicated deadline prior to the stated date... oof. I feel bad for Keen om this situation, they weren't even involved but people don't make that distinction usually.@@PopskuII

@eleven0624 If the judges have access to some builds days ahead and kinda lock certain nominees in already, while having just - lets say 5 spots left when the deadline approaches, its still a fail imho. Im very used to hitting unrealistic deadlines in my professional life and usually im still putting a second layout on top (advertisement music composer here) , but even in that industry a deadline still remains a deadline. Not so sure about this one right here. When i sent my entry, all they had left was a spot on the waiting list.

Not all charities take those cuts...one example is the Mr. Ballen Foundation who supports families of victims of violent crimes. 100% goes to the people in need. I've donated to several fun fundraisers in the past (mostly Fallout themed), perhaps you could set up your own!

I don't get what the problem is. Seems like the contest was admitted legit besides a misunderstanding with the timeline. So you got an issue with marketing, is that the issue here? And saying the internet is all fake but you are not fake on the internet is kind of silly don't you think? Either plenty of people can be real or no one is.

I admitted to faking being happy. At the end of the day, your a actor and performer as a influencer, in order to appeal in the eyes of society. You gotta do what gets views, to keep your head above water. At my size this is likely irrelevant, but on a much larger scale, it's very true.

@quor2243 I think you completely missed the "issue" and the entire point of this video lol. The "issue" is cautioning people who are mad and under the impression that everything was rigged. The winners were getting a lot of hate because a lot of people thought it was rigged. Seethrew is basically saying "chill out" on the winners. Even though the Rubius stream was scripted and the winners were given to him already, the winners were still chosen legit. No need to hate on the winners or Keen for anything.
