I bought mine on the last day of March so I've driven it going on 5 months. I selected the turbo boost gauge as one of the 4 top gauges (in place of the tranny temp gauge, I think). I was surprised that the turbos don't kick in unless you seriously get on it. Between the engine in non-turbo mode and the 47 horse electric motor, the thing makes plenty enough power for any normal driving. But it is almost scary when you stomp on it. My buddy and I took it way out in the country and had a blast doing some 0 to 60 runs, with our heads snapped back and laughing like little girls. This thing is seriously fast. Love it!!!

Very good info. Good thing you mentioned the stop and go driving. This vehicle will shine in town and in high traffic. If you commute say 45min in the morning on the highway to work at 70-75 you may not be getting the best mpgs. If in the evening that same route home you know takes you half an hour more because the traffic is thick you will feel good knowing your not buring fuel just traveling at slow speed. Tip of the iceberg for this technology. Hybrid Escapes, Fusions, Cmax are some names that people over look but those vehicles brought you this tech in the package that everyone wants. @@nativealaska I have a little over 16k on it now. I understand a lot more about how the hybrid works. Yes, I still love it. I was considering getting a Tundra in a couple of years when they copied Ford's V6 engine line. But I will have to see it in person, to me the videos I have seen, the interior is cheap and the dash is ugly AF. But back to the Ford, the more you drive below 60 mph, and I just stay in normal mode, the better the mpg. The biggest thing though, is where you get your gas. The more ethanol it has, the lower the mpg. I have gone on a 600 plus mile trip and got 26.3 mpg at the pump. But that was just luck, and I attribute it to getting gas that was lacking ethanol. I still go to that station when their price is low enough, and I still get the best gas mileage when I do. No problems with the truck, I keep it well maintained except it is filthy. Seems like everywhere I go it is wet here lately. I have only pulled a party barge 3 or 4 times, about 4500 lbs fully loaded and small utility trailers. Hope that helps....

This truck Ford should have stopped with, and everyone should own one. Every type of vehicles have their problems. Yet. The best truck and design I have ever owned. The horse power is off the charts. My truck is not a lighter model, it is loaded with most options available for the Lariat trim except FX4, which I didn't go for because it is slower 0-60 than Sport 4x4 due to the differential ratio. My only wish, a little longer and somewhat more power to start from fully stopped on electric power only, currently the engine kicks in as soon as it starts rolling. Your videos are awesome and very informative! The back up noise (pedestrian sounder) is easy to disable. There is a speaker just behind the front bumper on the driver side. If you have a skinny hand, you can reach up and unplug it. However.... You will get a notification every time you start the truck saying that the pedestrian sounder is not functioning and you have to press the "ok" button on the steering wheel to dismiss it. Annoying but less embarrassing than having a back up beeper. I've got 4000 miles on my Lariat PowerBoost. Leveled on 34" Nittos. Little bit of an oxymoron to buy a hybrid and then level it, but I wanted the 7.2kw generator and couldn't resist giving it the extra curb appeal. Love the truck but not getting anywhere close to the MPG I'd hoped for. Averaging 15 MPG so far. Gets great MPG 50-60 MPH. Once you get over 65 it suffers pretty bad. Cruising 75-85 (my typical cruising speed) puts me between 12-13 MPG... Pretty disappointing. Our Expedition Max with the 3.5 ecoboost gets about 22 MPG at the same speeds. Geared differently, I know. But still annoying. On the bright side, it tows a 5500lb travel trailer like it isn't there. About 8 MPG.

You've really murdered the notion of better mpg, by adding a lift kit and big tire then. I see claimed mpg regularly, but I haven't messed with the rolling part of the system by changing tires and wheels. I've noticed that towing my 4000 lb boat, it does it with ease, but my mpg suffers greatly. It's one of the consistent complaints about these EcoBoost engine. Eco, or boost, there's no in between. Tow anything and your mpgs are worse than the 5.0, even though it's more capable. I will see 14-16 mpgs pulling the boat. I'd frankly be pissed, if I was getting what you're getting 😁 *edit. I just did the math, and you're spending .11 cents per mile more with your wheel package. At 15k miles per year it's costing you $1650 a year in lost fuel economy just to roll around. You're paying for that vanity multiple times over. I put on 30+k miles per year. Thanks for convincing me not to put a set of all terrains on, like I was thinking. Could save me over $3k a year in fuel costs, at $3.30 per gallon. If gas prices rise, it's even worse. $3+k a year is a family vacation, mods for my Mustang, a riding mower, a new dining table, or new couches... Kind of puts it in perspective huh?

Well, gm needed a reliable rear wheel drive transmission, "which they can't seem to do on their own" and ford needed a front wheel drive transaxle. The idea was that both companies design and produce 1 transmission and get 2 available for use for the cost of 1. Ford took engineering lead on the 10 speed and gm took engineering lead on a 9 speed transaxle for fwd cars . Ford never actually used the 9 speed because it didn't gain any fuel economy and ford wanted to redesign it into an 8spd. In typical gm fashion the 9 speed also had many problems and ford made the right decision to not use this transaxle at all. The 10spd is all fords design.

I have the 2021 Ford F-150 with the 3.6 Hybrid engine. I love it. I have had two times when I needed to bring it into the shop. But each time the problem was solved with a software update. Amazing! As far a mileage goes, this is where things are strange. When I am not towing, and I am on the highway at speed with the adaptive cruise control and lane keeping, I can go into “Eco Mode” and I will drive many miles at 65 mph in electric mode. I also get about 27 mpg on many long trips. My City mpg is usually at about 22 - 24 mpg. But I love the fact that this is such a winner of a pickup truck, I have in less than 6 months, been converted from a Chevy truck guy to a Ford guy for what will most likely be the rest of my life. Now if Ford would only do that with the 250 and 350!

This is legit what "pisses" me off most about Ford. They did NOT market the 3.0L Power stroke at all. Can't tell you how many times I go to the pump and people do a double take asking when the F150 got a diesel. Sure, around town the Power boost beats my 3.0L by a couple miles, but on highway, I destroy it's MPG with my baby diesel. What I personally think Ford should have done was drop that hybrid power train into the diesel platform and become best in class city highway and combined MPG for as far as the eye could see. But no, after only 3 years they drop the diesel because they "didn't sell well".

The regenerative braking fills the small high voltage battery too fast for it to save your brakes towing downhill. You will be relying on truck and trailer brakes. The lightning saves your brakes feeding into a large battery but Range is an issue. I have a powerboost and tow farm tractors and other moderate loads. If I lived in the mountains and towed heavy trailers I would have a 3/4 ton at least probably with diesel and engine braking.

Yeah. A big tip is to try and learn how to get the best "brake score." The better the brake score, the more energy you're returning to the battery. Basically, brake the way you know you would if you had a state highway patrolman sitting next to you in the car. Slow and measured.

Great stuff once again. A question. How do you think the Powerboost would do at the high altitudes and extreme winter cold that comes with living in mountainy ski country out west? Any trade offs or issues with that? The best ski days are cold, snowstormy weather days after all. And conversely, how would it do when I take to hot desert environments and to sea level at either coast? Thanks. I do a lot of highway driving, but of course the better mpg apparently around town with the Powerboost is appealing. I'm considering the F150 Platinum with the Powerboost, Ecoboost or naturally aspirated 5.0 V8. I love that they can all apparently get 22mpg or above on the highway.

The 24 MPG is still alluding me, but at 14K miles, it is hitting 21 and 22 mpg - maybe at 16K miles, lol. But towing is easy. I moved from Nazi California to Arizona and rented a 24 foot trailer to move. Took 4 trips through the mountains and deserts, my mileage dropped to10-14 mpg but never struggled going up the mountains at 70 mph. Depends on what premium you willing to pay for the hybrid. I had the same decision this year and I gave up on the over priced hybrid and went 3.5 Ecoboost. In Eco Mode 20mpg in city and 23mpg interstate and this is the Lariat 4x4 will all options so she is a heavy girl. If you heavy footed then city driving mpg will drop like a rock and hybrid then helps nothing. The term hybrid for this vehicle I would say is a stretch like the Mini "e".

Hope you got the powerboost because it's crazy good mpg on city streets. On slow traffic, I can easily clear 30 mpg. On top of that, I have hilly roads, so I get a lot of value out of the gas I spend to product torque. I can get up the hills without using much more gas than flat driving and then I can drive down the slopes practically free while also recharging my battery.
