Julian Mayer it’s the biggest because of the sheer number of apps. That doesn’t mean it should be grouped in with PC and console games. Adan A the diamonds quote was definitely a bit of a stretch on her end. I think the Overwatch quote sounds worse than it is. @merrin13414 жыл бұрын
@@mikehauncho4874 People already know that women enjoy puzzle games, and I doubt most women who play ONLY those games consider themselves "gamers". The problem is that it is perpetuating stereotypes in game culture, and delegitimizing the fact that women who do consider themselves "gamers" have a wide range of interests when it comes to game types. I enjoy Sudoku, but if anyone were to ask me my favourite games to play it would never cross my mind because things like Sudoku are universally enjoyed, regardless of whether the people who enjoy them are in the gaming community or not. "Girl gamers" are not all hardcore nor that much of a minority, there are a lot of women who love games of all sorts and seeing a list that is half generic puzzle games is kind of a slap in the face for all the women who play other games and are still fighting to be included when it comes to video game discussion. Game choice has nothing to do with intelligence, but let's not pretend like Bejewled, Sudoku, etc are even mentioned at E3, nor are the women who are actively watching E3 likely to be playing/focusing on those games. That's the issue here, know your audience. The girl games watching E3 watch it because they love all kinds of games.

Mike Hauncho no one is shitting on the people who like sudoku, but it still shouldn’t be on a list of “games that ____ play”. You can’t say games aren’t gendered and then gender them by saying “diamonds are a girl’s best friend”, that’s both pandering and hypocritical. Gendering games is so stupid because gender as a way to categorize people is stupid. Women can enjoy whatever things they want, men can enjoy whatever things they want, enbies and people w/o gender can enjoy whatever things they want. i've been into video games, particularly jrpgs, for over a decade. to me, it looks like that list was made by someone who barely researched the topic and just looked for top selling f2ps in the app/play store that had some some good reviews from female players. first off, i'm not sure why they limited the list to f2p games when the title implies that it'd be a list of all types of games that women enjoy. i would've expected to see games with strong female protagonists (or female protagonist options) like horizon zero dawn or assassin's creed odyssey if that were the case. but even with the f2p limit, they ignored big games like fire emblem: heroes and granblue fantasy, which have a decent amount of female-oriented content. what's especially ridiculous about this list is it just makes it looks like female players only play simple, casual games (sudoku and bejeweled? really?) rather than games that actually require skill and time investment. not surprised about the backlash at all.

I was going to say, in my experience (both as a female gamer and a friend of other female gamers) I have noticed that many women do tend to play the Sims and Animal Crossing. But I would also add the Zelda franchise, fantasy RPGs (both western and JRPGs) and visual novels. But even though that is a slight trend, many women love all sorts of different games... including fighting games, shooters, puzzled, action platformers, shmups etc. ..... /almost as if we are people/. Turns out .. different people... like different things. I know men who love Doom and COD who play Bejeweled. I know women who like Leisure Suit Larry and Danganronpa. This is basically like saying "10 Movies that women like watching" and putting in 8 rom coms, a drama and one Marvel movie. Sure women go see romcoms more than men probably... doesn't mean we should act as though that means anything or represents something about women.

@hhhhhheyyyyyyyyyyy4 жыл бұрын
there's a legit study with a good sample size that states most women tend to pick support characters or female characters when playing overwatch. Overwatch appealed to tons of girls who never played shooting games in their life due to their comparatively large pool of women friendly? characters. sure girls who played other games before picked anybody, but girls who were introduced to fps by overwatch still tend to pick female characters over male characters. if this was a different game, i'd be upset about 'girls only liking the game for female characters' but since it's overwatch i just wanted to let you know a lot of girls like overwatch for the girls and it's not a bad thing. actually it made a marketing statement like more women friendly characters = more potential players. sooo umm everybody's valid. but statistically the author's not wrong lol

Listing The Sims as one of the best "Best Gamer Girl Games" is low key sexist. It's a real common stereotype in the gaming community. Like the stereotype that the girl in an MMO raid or in LoL is the support for her DPS boyfriend. Want to know the real best games for women? Just Google a list of the top games of a given year. They're the same list. My mother who was a house wife in her 30s at the time use to make custom maps for the original Doom. She would put the cheat codes in for me because I was 6 and getting instantly murdered isn't fun for a 6 year old. Gaming doesn't need to worry about a person's sex or gender.

There are a lot of women who love fast paced, intense, and competitive games. The vast majority don't. That's not sexist, it's just a fact. If you actually look at the numbers and see what women are playing, their list is accurate. That in no way prevents, demands, or restricts what games are available to women. Just like I look at the numbers for guys and see a list of games that I don't play. That doesn't mean I should get offended. I just go, "Makes sense, but I don't like those games." Then I play the games I want, unpopular indie games.

Holly Rowlands Stereotypes exist because our brains are lazy, shortcuts to grouping people make our brains able to move on to the next thing - that doesn’t mean it is right or that it isn’t harmful. There is no evidence that a majority of female gamers play female marketed games, even if those female marketed games have a majority of female players. Casual games are also in a box of their own, I play puzzler games like bejeweled on my phone to pass time but I also play Diablo.
@DarkBunnyLord4 жыл бұрын
Because the list is generalizing the most common games they believe females to play. It’s literally impossible to make a list that includes every game a specific gender, age group, etc play. Yeah females play a wide range of games, just like guys do, just like kids do etc but like with everything their are trends to certain types of games that tend to be more commonly played by said groups. I’d say the only real cringe thing she did in the article was some of the resining like saying “diamonds are a girls best friend” etc.
@DarkBunnyLord4 жыл бұрын
Racheal Bennett Theres is evidence, though it’s swaying largely into a more mixed field as social norms change but polling, sign up forms that require one to fill out sex, etc are valid ways of gathering data. I’m not saying this is what she used for her list, who knows what she used, but the data does exist marketing companies use it all the time because it literally helps them sell games by trying to figure out their target audience.

Hey Phil, I love your show man but I’m kind of pissed at you for your Raycon ads. I purchased the E55’s because you were advertising them as awesome. I usually watch a ton of review videos before buying something but I figured that you’re an honest guy so I went ahead and purchased them using your code. These things suck. All you hear is distorted bass. Don’t get me wrong, this is MY FAULT. I should have done some more research and read/watched some review videos/posts but if you would have actually tried these earphones, no way would you have claimed how great they sound. - The bass takes over all music, you can barely hear everything else; - The mic sucks both for phone calls and general sound recording (vs AirPods 1st gen); - The battery life IS NOWHERE CLOSE to their claimed usage time for both calls, music, and standby; - There’s no way to know how much battery if left on the case or the earphones as there’s no app; - When you dock them in their case, THEY DONT TURN OFF. Calls still get picked up by them even when they’re charging in their case; I bought $20 wireless earpod type headphones that resemble the raycon e55’s for $20 on amazon and they OUT-PERFORM the originals (the only thing they lack is the wireless charging). Come on Phil man, we know you need to make some cash and you deserve every penny as your videos are awesome. I’ve been a subscriber for years but please try not to peddle expensive trash. As always, awesome video, Phil. Apologies in advance If my spelling sucks or some words don’t seem to fit into what I’m trying to say. Autocorrect is enough of a ass let alone typing on a cracked display 🙂 Lex

Thank you for getting the word out about GDQ in TIA, I missed this video when it was posted because I was there donating money and enjoying the runs as I do for every event. Some extra info for anyone who may read this major GDQ events happen twice a year. In January they raise money for the Prevent Cancer Foundation and in the summer they raise money for Doctors Without Borders. They are usually the first week of January and the last week of June or early July, because of the pandemic though they had to change things up a bit but still managed to pull in $2.3 million total which IIRC brings the total they have raised for MSF to over $12 million. Thanks again for including this I feel its something positive which we are in short supply of right now.
