Thumbtack is insanely predatory now. 2021- Early 2022 everything was GREAT. Now it's a 40-60% of the job cost per lead and instant bookings cost 2.8x the lead cost.... So a $25 lead is now $70 for a $100 job. Im in junk removal so theres no way to retain profits after factoring in lead costs, dump fees, gas, etc

Now, 2023 Oct. Thumbtack from being with them for 6 successful years. Now forced to use instant booking. Back then leads were at leads up to $12. Now, instant bookings are $39 and up and customer must cancel within 15 minutes. After, there is no refund 🤷‍♂️. By the way my business is lawn service 😂. So is a $39 loss. I told them i rather buy $39 business cards comes 500-1000 cards and post them each door 🚪. Get leads for free 🤷‍♂️. I guess old school still does the job.

Yeah they charged me $67 for instant booking that cancled before I could do job but no refund. Screw that and how do I know thumb tack isn't behind those customer account that cancle. Seems really sketchy to work like that. I'm new to the app but I won't be using it. I use taskrabbit just fine. They charge on top of my bill to customer and only if I do the work. Not just to talk to customer that's a really stupid business model.

Yes! It’s not just me. I would say 2020-2021, Thumbtack was great (I was already experienced at the time, but was willing to compete at lower budgets). Now, it’s perpetuating a race to the bottom on price and quality.

I was using Thumbtack from 2018-2023 present time. The site has completely changed for the worst! Back then the prices for leads were fair! Now its a complete rip-off and now the automatic bookings??? this is literally like robbery or near scam. I was making 80k+ annually off Thumbtack back then. It's not even logical and now there is no customer service option you can't even call for a question. Guy just charged me $55.45 just too ask me how much too install a fan LOL

this program is for them a machine to squeeze money from contractors, for example: they gave me a nice job and after I finished it, they pumped all the money from the job, which did not respond, who wanted to knows how much it would cost them, or they gave you a job that there is nothing. but the money goes to them weekly for a month, I haven't received anything from them, if you call them they will tell you that Castemeru chooses you, not them

I haven’t signed up for any other freelance sites aside from one specifically for wedding videographers which is Zola. Other than that I’ve been able to stick to the word of mouth and Facebook groups. Facebook groups are great and FREE!

I don't know why I got a few from people wanting a psychic party in person but were in another time zone. Yet I was being shown what I missed because my budget wasn't high enough and THOSE were less than an hour away. Looking for somebody earlier than whatever places I wouldn't justify without them inviting plane fare.,. I think the gig salad is a lot more reasonable price than thumbtack pro and I have been so busy with the Halloween season I put minimal time in my listing and really need to make sure I can consolidate my prices more consistently though you just said something about thumbtack giving leads for days that you booked blocked off omg I was wondering if I could dispute these because there are only so many weekends in the month of October and I have gotten a lot of interest in past week over next Friday and Saturday. My local thumbtack Market doesn't change very competitively but it's saturated with tarot readers and I took the first clients to ask for the dates next weekend (oct 27 28) even though they were in neighboring states because they were so enthusiastic and curious and they both told me I should change my listing to add mileage charges because they didn't feel good about paying only what it would be for the next suburb away when I had an hour plus to drive to them. It was really a big wakeup that I need to make sure I don't devalue my time and its worth because others will begin to follow suit? So with gig salad being you are a videographer I think you ought to sign up and see how it goes because it lets you go free but the pay is completely affordable what you were giving thumbtack for a week of leads I got six months for five bucks cheaper. I don't know if they have any perks for referring others but if so I'm Pepper Vogel radiopsychicpepper and have a great week thanks for the video!

When it was hot it's was hot but now meh. You will have to spend way more fore a lead plus charge less to even get a response. I have to compete against guys who are willingly to spend 50 plus a lead for a 90 job. I don't think alot of them actually make a profit😢 On top of that they don't refund as much before alot of loopholes. I still use them but I am seeing there Days being numbered like the others.

you said that there are times when you need to dispute charges. HOW?? It is impossible to contact them. I have a phone number that used to work. It is now DISCONNECTED!!! I put a full block on any referrals for the next two weeks after which they sent and CHARGED ME FOR a direct lead. THEY STOLED THAT MONEY FROM ME And I can not contact them to dispute this. THIS IS ONE BIG SCAM OPERATION.

Reaching into one's bank account is a problem and the risk-pricing is worrisome. You don't know if they are just tire-kickers. But you get charged anyway. I turned it off. Once converted, you better make those customers repeat!

They haven't even informed pros they are doing this .. they are turning around and still taking money from us pros for so called leads even tho the leads are practically bogus..they know what they are doing... please spread the word .. it's like a monopoly they are creating and its huring the small biz man that's really out here working hard to make it. I was top pro on the platform and I'm on strike!!!

I don’t understand why nobody wants to make a new platform for small jobs (up to 500$) that will charge 20% per lead if you won it. Every contractor will go there in no time. I’m a top pro with 5 star reviews on thumbtack and I can barely pay my rent. That is the reality.

At this point it is mostly word of mouth, other videography platforms I’m apart of, in-person networking events, and definitely Facebook groups. I’ve tried the ads, but it doesn’t convert to clientele for me personally as much as the other ways do. It does get more eyes on my page, but im looking for people ready to spend money lol.

My boyfriend signed up for TT at the end of last year. He works in HVAC and started his own company recently. He was desperate to find leads. At first it was great esp with the free credit. But what sucks is he will get so many people who either instant book him and then cancel or ppl who will come in as a direct lead and then never reply to him. He has only managed to get like 1-2 refunds so far. What I have been doing for him is I take the person's name and phone number and enter it into his CRM and look at it like "well now we have their contact info for future advertising." So he can always try to market to those people later, off of TT. I just think it's outrageous when he gets the same exact lead twice in a row like due to an error or the person sending him two separate requests (one for furnace and one for AC instead of keeping it in 1) and they refuse to refund him. It's looking more and more like a scam to us now. 😢

Yeah they definitely own the accounts doing instant booking. I didn't authorize them to take anything. I thought every lead had to be approved by me but I already paid for tbe lead weather I can do the job or not. That's a scam 100%. Only way they should wasn't to get paid as business is if the business on thumbtack get the job. I'm deleting my account no way am I going to pay before I talk to soneone. If I want that I can hire a promotional company to push my contact info.

Thank you so much... its a shame I needed to come here to get info about how it works. I have a bespoke fashion business and decided to give thumbtack a try in addition to other sites and my own. Im just going about my business and they're asking for my credit card. Like huh? What? and I need to spend a min $20 a week, which is not the issue. The issue I found was there wasn't a breakdown of how it worked, how I'm charged for leads and contacts/quotes. So i had to come to KZbin University to try to get some info bc I dont just enter my credit card without knowing pricing, charge schedule, etc. Again thank you

Since I’m a videographer, and I focus on weddings, I’m signed up for platforms catered to that specifically. I do highly recommend joining Facebook groups though that are based around your service or groups that are general to your area. Promote your work there or comment on other people’s post that are looking for your service. I’ve gotten a lot of long term clientele that way as well.

Once you mark the job as done Thumbtack will ask you if you want to send them a link to leave a review. Otherwise you can just go on your profile & send a review link to whoever.

I just was curious with the whole paying for leads thing If the customer responds to one person and it shuts out the rest or they can talk to all 3 while we all get charged like wtf.. Yeah I definitely agree they should have better boundaries when it comes to when you’re charged. And to answer your question, the customer will be able to converse with whoever they reached out to at the same time. The only time it will close the other inquiries is when the customer or service provider changes the status of the job to booked.
