After meeting in New Zealand back in 2017, Beth and Jake have travelled the world, working online and creating memories.
Beth left the UK in 2014 and has been travelling full time ever since, she is the owner of www.sheisthelostgirl.com and has a passion for writing and photography.
Jake has been travelling since 2016 and during this time has perfected his photography and videography skills. He is adventurous and has a passion for the outdoors.
Having lived in various countries around the world, we decided that instead of settling down, we'd build a tiny home inside a van.
We've never done anything like this before, we have no building experience, no electrical experience, and no plumbing experience.
This is a huge learning curve for us and we welcome you to join us in this challenge.

One of the things most important to remember when travelling in Morocco, or for that matter any Islamic country, is to be aware of local sensibilities about dress. Your long, backless dresses were lovely and your wore them well, but they really would be quite offensive to many. Number one rule in Morocco: cover arms and chest, and head too in some places- Your choice of sundresses really is asking for trouble.
@OurWildHorizons
@OurWildHorizons 4 ай бұрын
That’s why those dresses were only worn in the middle of nowhere when people weren’t around :) You can see from the video that we covered up more in populated areas

I’m a Moroccan that lives in Europe and I can confirm you if you go to for example Tanger or Agadir many Moroccans aren’t covered either. Now I don’t want you to stop covering but I want you to know that its your choice. You could be looked at but they look at everybody.

Hey Beth and Jake, Loved your video. We are heading to Morocco in October! Usually we have everything prebooked but this time we are planning to have a bit more of a flexible approach. Did you book your trip as you went or did you have things prebooked? Our first priority is to ensure we do a desert camp for 2 nights. Did you book this when you got to Merzouga or did you prebook it? Can you give me a recommendation on who to use for the desert camp?
@OurWildHorizons
@OurWildHorizons Жыл бұрын
We had our desert stay pre booked as that was what we were most excited for on our trip there. Then we pre booked our places in Marrakech and Fes but the rest of them booked one or two days before hand. I imagine October will be fairly quiet. For the Desert Camp it depends on your budget, we were lucky enough to do an instagram collab at Kam Kam which one of many "luxury desert camps" are those are probably better arranged ahead of time. But the backpacker style ones you can just hop on a tour from Marrakech and they arrange all the stops and desert camps. Hope you have an incredible time!

@matthewmclemore6465
@matthewmclemore6465 9 ай бұрын
I’ve spent more than a year in Morocco over the years. I first came 30 years ago but was there just before the pandemic. I would say that as a woman you may not feel comfortable alone depending on how well travelled you are and if you have spent time in Muslim countries previously. Morocco used to be a very tough place to travel when I first came. Lot’s of shady characters, petty theft and hassle. It’s definitely gotten better over the years partially due to “tourist police” which is a special branch. They are brutal to the local thieves which I don’t condone however, it has curbed what was a tourist business threatening level of theft and harassment. Last time in Moroc I was with my fiancé and we had very little hassle. Having said that I noticed when she was far enough away from me that people (men) thought she might be alone she was approached. Also, shop owners were much more aggressive with trying to sell her things if I was not around. I think that is due to the fact that I am very accustomed to their tactics and can quickly , firmly, politely extricate myself from the situation. If you hare not used to the way they bargain in these countries it can be exhausting. I can’t speak to safety of a woman traveling alone. I personally would not recommend it if you are under 40. I think older women don’t get as much attention, for obvious reasons. No offense intended. If I was a woman I’d probably feel more comfortable traveling in Moroc with company. Best of luck. Oh, Tangiers has always been famous for hassle as it’s a gateway city. Essouira is probably the most relaxed and safest feeling city . Marrakech is not the city it once was despite all you see in these vids. I wouldn’t spend much time there.

You bear the price-gouging treatment well. I started with the luxury stay videos and then worked my way down to what I could really afford, and my experience will likely be similar to yours. I appreciate the unfiltered perspective. It is disappointing, isn't it? The culture and history are rich. The kingdom was a haven for Jews fleeing persecution, and I had a high opinion of the country. I guess you can't escape the merchants, vendors, and policemen trying to fleece tourists wherever you go.

Hey. I am surprised you covered something as vile as a tannery, I really object that vile place. Animal are to live, not turn into leather. But you agree with me. Take some cat food, we fed hundreds of kitties in Marrakech. 😻

Yes, we completely agree with you and it was a shock to see. But since it is unfortunately an “attraction” for a lot of tourist we decided to visit and document it anyway. This way more people will be able to see that places like this still exist.

@@OurWildHorizons Thanks for the reply. Hopefully you can enjoy Morocco. 👍😘As I said, feed the cats if you can bear seeing cats in semi starvation. I don't know how people can sleep at night after what they get away with. 👀

We haven’t worked it out yet but it was much more expensive than we expected and was something around £1100 total including the flights and the car hire!

I am British and I got raped in Marrakesh last month in a public place while I walked to the toilet alone!! Be careful and don’t go to a nightclub called 555s - I flew back to English unshowered for the nightclub to refuse to show cctv and cover up the entire thing. Gangs run a lot of nightclubs and literally nobody wanted to know. Great holiday up until that point - but safety isn’t a priority in these places.

The building you like was built during the marinee dynasty at that time kingdom of Granada was still in Spain and all labor was Moroccan except for the craftsmanship where the king then bring the craftsman’s from Seville Spain who already fallen to Catholic armies and then all their craftsman member families and Moroccan king refused to allowed them back to Spain as a protection of then craftsman secrets of Morocco … we are already talking about something thats over 600 or 700 years in old real then authentic Morocco… the much information that Moroccans knows is because we speak Classical Arabic and we have access to authentic old history books thus for us is always funny to see the information written in west like wikipedia where they say moor yet such term did never exist… kingdom’s was named based on Arab rulers family names ….always !!! What moor what subsahara africans !? At a time of arab golden age !!! Jews also had their domain in craftsmanship mainly in jewelry… Elizabeth the first had a serious political and even close relationship with the saadiein dynasty king el mansour el dahabi (golden) especially against Spain alience ( Britain Morocco military pact ) … thats two dynasties post marinieens …ohh well history…
