I have been using Focus (corded) for quite a few yrs already for tec diving, and I just love it. I only swapped the original foldable adjustable handle for the "Explorer" Goodman handle, one reason was that it has the thumb loop which is really useful for DPV rides, and second, more important for me actually, the Goodman handle is a closed loop, while the adjustable one creates an open "hook" shape whose only raison-d-être was to entangle, hoses, lines, other ppl equipment when the tanks were put together in car etc... Since this video focuses mostly on explaining the advantages of the cord, let me add another point which has not been mentioned and I think is a great benefit for both tec and rec divers coz these days, most ppl take photos or videos underwater: you can easily control the width of beam by simple turning of that black knob. There is a reason why it is called "Focus" at the first place: in the narrowest setting the beam is really super-narrow, like a light sabre. I always realize this when diving w ppl who use other brands of lights which often are much wider. Of course you do not want that big fireball of life to ruin your photos or videos, but very often, the other lights have such wide beams that even when your buddies think that they have pointed the lights away enough from you, you still get that extra flare and that can be really annoying. Of course, Focus is not a cheap light and it took me a while to be able to get it, but it is one of those buys which I have never ever regretted.🙂

When you night dive a back up light is a must

The Halcyon gear does look good. I like the extra burn time of a corded light and the fact that the weight of that battery isn't on your hand anymore. Having said that, batteries are getting better all the time and my Apex gives 27Ah/98Wh in a 500g canister. That's just 250g net in the water for up to 14 hours of light. Snuggled up in the spine of my wing it also makes no noticealbe difference to trim. And yes I too have dropped a light, fortunately onto the flat side of a wreck at only 20m!

Halcyon is dive gear brand that sells dive lights, and you are asking them what are their thoughts about competitor brand gear...are you stupid?

Or you could just buy a backup light, a second battery and use a Goodman handle with Bungee on your wrist. I see and agree with your point on burntime in Overhead environment. But just to not drop a light buy one for 600$, no thank you.

Did placing the canister on your waist band require you to place some weight on the other side of your waistband to maintain good trim? My canister is 11.4” tall, 2.6” diameter and weighs 4.6 lbs. great for SM and bungeed to my butt plate, but want to use it with my BP&W using a single back mounted cylinder while diving with my kids. Is it practical with the size of this canister? Thanks

No, it did not. I first had the larger canister and it didn't affect my trim whatsoever. ~ Nicole

It’s 3k for a light. If you’re caving then yes.

The good head light that is all. Very poor quality charger, compare with the competitors. No options for modifications of the length cable, and only compatible with halcyon. I was trying this and after long contemplating, I have chosen Ammonite 😉

😊 Thanks for your comment and we wanted to reply to give some insight! Yes, our products are built to interface with our proprietary batteries. In fact, they are custom designed for them, locally machined, and assembled. Why? Because we don't want to chance flooding issues with aftermarket battery casings. And that's not accurate about cord lengths. Custom cords have always been available from the factory upon request, they just may not be stocked in-store at a particular dealer or distributor. Just wanted to share this information; it’s important to know if there are misconceptions like this out there.

Attach a strap to your handheld light and the problem is solved for a lot less money.

If thats such a great feature, then why are they selling the same thing basically without the cord? Also a basic backup light should do the trick for the price halcyon is asking. Lets be real... Its not cave diving...
