Great video! I’m an attorney, though I’m one of many who ended up pursuing an alternate career after working for a 1.5yr at a big law firm in NYC. I think this is a great way to expose young women of color to law before they pursue the profession. I personally love your work clothes style... gives me ideas on what I can wear to work lol. Hi, Kameron! I am currently in my application process and live in ATL. I am willing to move if I get reasonable offers.. My questions are: How many law schools did you apply to? Once your received offers, was is difficult to make the decision? What can you tell us about seat deposits? Was it difficult to decide to move from Georgia to Alabama for law school? (I've been subscribed for a longgg time lol). What was your process in finding housing after your move? Repeat question: Is it difficult dating in law school? How did you manage? What year were you when you began dating your sweetheart? (I have been in a serious relationship for over 4 years and, though he is very supportive, I often think about how a possible move for me or a shift in my stress level or time as a result of law school, would impact our relationship). I understand that your experience is yours and mine will be my own but, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Regarding dating, would you feel distant from your partner who is also a lawyer? Do you have time to do what you love (hobby: such as dancing)? What GPA do have to have to get into law school? What advice would you give me to become a strong lawyer in the future (I’m 16!)?

Would you recommend it to someone with a family? I've been married for 2 years and have a 10-month-old baby. I'm currently a junior in college. I understand that it won't be a 9-5 job. But for those of us that hold our family time very high, would you recommend a legal career? I've always wanted to go to law school, ever since I was in grade school. Law school has always seemed very deep, academic, prestigious, and the idea of studying "law" has always seemed beautiful to me. I would hate to argue a case in court (I have had a stutter since I was young. A natural stutter, not a nervous one) I would rather dig deep into books or documents. I've been an avid reader (I read 4-6 books a month every month) since I was young, and have always felt that being an attorney would highlight that strength.

I found you on KZbin and you indicate that you enjoy researching law. I realize it’s been about two years since you began your channel, and you may be too busy by now to reply to my post. However, if you do reply I have included legal citations to help. You may also prefer not to respond to politically related questions, but I think this is an interesting one. Would you please answer this question? Can those involved in the Jan 6th insurrection be prosecuted under local DC law? I have put it out for many other people with no answer or reply. I am a trained legal researcher and have looked into many possible scenarios that could result from the Jan 6th riot. The most fascinating possibility I have found is also one not discussed. The fact that nobody seems to ask or answer this question makes me wonder if I misunderstand the legal authority that I’m using or if I’ am just plain wrong. Please help me understand. It has been established that double jeopardy does not apply to cases prosecuted separately by state and federal jurisdictions. The Jan 6th insurrection occurred on federal property and in the jurisdiction of the District of Columbia (DC). Although DC is not a state it still has its own local statutes. So let me now explain the authority which I base my question. The rioters were threatening to kidnap some members of congress which is a felony, DC ST § 22-181. If someone is harmed or property damage exceeds $5,000 while rioting or inciting a riot it is a felony carrying up to 20 years, DC ST § 22-1322. There was also felony assault with items such as flagpoles and fire extinguishers considered deadly weapons under those circumstances, Peay v. U.S., 597 A.2d 1318 (D.C. 1999). See also, Scott v. U.S., 243 A.2d 54 (D.C. 1968). The murder of the DC police officer carries a life sentence without the possibility of release, DC ST § 22-2106. DC courts have opined that it is not necessary to name the person who committed the murder of the police officer or the rioter who died to charge the others, Price v. U.S., 813 A.2d 169 (D.C. 2002). Under D.C. law anyone acting together to commit a felony may be charged as principles or accessories, DC ST § 22-1805 and DC ST § 22-1806. It is a felony to intimidate or impede a public official while he/she is performing their duties, DC ST § 22-851. Most charged admit that they were there to “stop the steal” which was to intimidate or impede officials while performing their duties. As long as the defendants were acting with a common interest to commit a felony crime, and someone is murdered, all those involved are guilty of felony murder, Christian v. U.S., 394 A.2d 1 (D.C. 1978). Perhaps most significant for those not there who instigated the events, it is not required for them to have physically participated as long as they directed or advised others to do so, DC ST § 22-1805. Thanks.

Now that you are an attorney and know other baby attorneys, how much has school ranking played in the job offers received? Meaning, did you have to be at the top of your class to receive a great paying SA or permanent offer of employment being at a regional lower ranked school? I know regional areas have law firms and it helps I guess if the state doesn’t have but a couple law schools, but did you have to compete much with students from higher ranked schools?(that just you specifically in Alabama, but maybe other states if you know someone). I’m trying to gauge how someone that already has worked for a few years and makes close to six figures but definitely wants to be an attorney would fair once law school ends. I know it’s a loaded questions because grades, networking ability, the school, and my number one component “GOD” makes a difference, but what are some odds you’ve heard or know of people making wayyyy less than $100,000 especially if you aren’t going to school on a full ride? Preferably, less than a big law salary if you’re not at a T-14-20ish school. Should you ever pay sticker for law school? If so, what would be viable factors? What do work hours look at versus billable work hours? What are key items to look for in potential firms, especially being a minority?(you seem to still wear diverse hair styles and loving your environment, but I know a lot of people of color think about this a lot). You know I always have a million questions lol. It’s cool if you can’t address them all.

@MissV463
@MissV463 4 жыл бұрын
A lot of questions you presented but to answer the one about law school rankings, you really have to think about a variety of different factors: type of law; location; work style; etc. I went to a top 10 law school after working for three years, and I’d say that if you are thinking of working at a big law firm in a major city, then law school rankings matter. Especially since law school is a major investment and the higher ranked schools rarely give full ride scholarships, you want to put yourself in the best position to earn a high enough salary to pay back those loans. Now, if you think you want to do law in the public sector, law school rankings may not be as big a deal (unless you are trying to get a clerkship or federal govt position). The government offers several loan forgiveness programs that will pay off all your law school debt if you work in the public sector for like 10 years.

@MissV463

Netté I didn’t enjoy the work and the stress of meeting the billable hr requirements. Also, quite frankly, my old firm wasn’t very diverse and I often felt secluded. Thus, I went into a career that allowed me to utilize my legal education without practicing traditional law and so far it’s been working out for me. I’m working in HR and focus on labor and employee relations.
@thepureheartcommittee
@thepureheartcommittee 4 жыл бұрын
MissV463 I work in HR and would like to possibly do employment and labor. I’ve done HR for a few years and I’m a HR Manager now. I’ve always wanted to be an attorney, but working in HR gave me the push I needed to pursue my jd degree. I sometimes feel powerless in my role simply because of laws I don’t know and employees are unpredictable. I also don’t like the amount of investigations and time I have to put in to provide to attorneys, for them to reply back with helpful advice or documents and that’s bill is thousands of dollars.(I’m long winded, and thorough with details, so I help them achieve their billable hours via phone and email 🤣). Long-term, I’d probably switch to in-house or start my own practice.(Not definitely, but I don’t know what the future holds). Because I dislike some attributes of HR, the money I make is market rate or a little above for my experience level. I’m just curious of the real world salaries as I’m waiting on acceptances from law school. I’m praying for some miracle reach schools lol. But it’s hard to find information or to get people/strangers/influencers to share their experiences or knowledge from others, that didn’t go to a top school. I’m non-traditional and a little older than a typical 25 year old. But I’m going to law school regardless, so I guess I’ll stop wondering lol.

Love your videos! I have a couple of questions. All of my lawyer friends tell me to only go to law school if you want to be a lawyer and that if you have any hesitation to NOT go to law school. This really freaks me out honestly cause it makes attorney work seem horrible? Also, because you are billing clients for the hours you work on their case do you feel a lot of stress because of this? I feel like there would be a lot of pressure to get a ton of work done even on days where I can’t focus or want to socialize. Like what do you do on those days? Haha sorry kind of a lot of questions but I’m genuinely curious.

can you please go more in detail about networking as a lawyer? i always thought of networking as something to do while in school (undergrad & law school), but i'd love to hear how networking works outside of school!! also, on a more personal note, what do you like to do outside of your job? hobbies? just curious!

This is such good advice for any career. I work in the federal government and sometimes I feel like these degrees are useless. However, I was promoted this week and I was like why...lol. I have a GREAT boss that sees the potential and that's important while we're learning how to put these degrees to work.

Are the costs of law school & school worth it? Because I hear that in the first few years of being a lawyer you get very low income but your also in a lot of debt ☹️

Do new attorneys always have to work for someone else first before they can go into business for themselves?
@alh476115
@alh476115 4 жыл бұрын
V Jones No; however, most new attorneys do not know anything about the practice of law. Working for experienced attorneys at the start of your career will give you the training needed to be a great attorney.

I love all your videos; you're so inspiring! Now that you're in the profession, is it any different from what you expected? What made you go into your area of law? How did you choose your law school or what schools to look at? Is it possible to do a video comparing your area of law with some of your friends who may be in different areas of law?
