For me, the coolest thing that happened at a Darkness gig was in Bristol. You had a wireless jack on your guitar and came out into the audience on a roadie's shoulders. I jumped onto my mates shoulders and called you over. You then played the whole solo whilst I had my arm around you. It was epic! Thank you!

Love when anyone famous is just super honest and humble and upfront about such things. Whether its adult braces or Invisalign or hair transplants or otoplasty or any small thing that isn't so much chasing "perfection" (like the Hollywood look) but is just a small point of self-image and confidence. There's often some weird stigma attached to it (especially for men) which is just silly.

I had 13 teeth pulled in 40 mins, got full uppers.. my life has dramatically improved since, both eating and smiling/self confidence. It was hell, but it was worth it. Dentistry was the first medical practice developed, and it is now gated and guarded behind incredibly high pay-walls. This works as an easy and instant determination on who has means and who does not, before a word comes out.
@richardwillson101

Well said. It is often a sign of somebody's financial means... I have spent thousands on dental work post pandemic, thanks to the halting of dental services during and after leading to major issues. But my money has been spent trying to keep me alive yet keep teeth. Two have been removed, two have complex root canals and I had numerous associated infections treated. Because the treatment was necessity, there is little visual indication that I have spent the money. None of it was on cosmetic dentisty, because I really can't afford that.
@kilgoretrout3966
@kilgoretrout3966 6 ай бұрын
Even sadder, since your teeth kick off most consumption, bad teeth knock on to bad health elsewhere, throughout the body.The infection from bad teeth is dangerous on its own, but to think of swallowing all that sort of poison in your sleep is flat out creepy, and deadly, methinks. Why dental work is viewed as cosmetic, compared to all other components of our body is criminal. Bad Teeth=Bad Health & higher costs.

I am in need of dentures atm and need 6/7 extractions (I just turned 34 and I’m already missing most my lower back teeth, so another 6 or so will be a lot!) I hate my teeth, I should say I’m a recovering addict also so that played a part,but I can get them covered financially thank god, I just am scared tbh! You say it was hell, do you mean the extractions themselves? I’ve had 2 infections in my broken molars in the past few months, I would describe that pain as hell - and I’ve broken my arm twice (plates and screws in my arm), ribs, leg (rod in my shin! And screws in my knee and ankle) and other injuries, but dental pain truly is the worst ime! I know I’m only gonna keep having pain until I bite the bullet and get em done. Appreciate the info (never had a fear of dentist til recently, had dry socket after my last extraction which probably contributed to that)
@richardwillson101
@richardwillson101 5 ай бұрын
@jdoodah the pain of extractions isn't hell at all compared to the infections that damaged/rotting teeth bring. Obviously extractions come with a risk of infection themselves, but it is so much easier to deal with and once treated, should never come back. I had another tooth pulled the other day after repeated nasty infections. One of my infections should have put me in hospital, but I'm of the "I can hold on a bit longer, don't want to be hassle" type. The dentist was astounded that I had managed the pain and was still conscious. The infections were so bad before my first extraction that I didn't take any painkillers. I had some local anaesthetic for the procedure but it was so relieving to have it removed I could happily stand the pain afterwards. - also, because my body was weak, I didn't want to pump it full of drugs which may have caused more harm. If you need those two infected ones out, go for it! Don't be scared.

I'm sorry @@jdoodah I don't get YT notifications >< Also, I just wrote you a 3 paragraph thing and then my page suddenly refreshed and I lost it all haha so here's a shorter version: I've had unrelated surgeries, hundreds of in-house procedures both medical and dental.. when I say _hell_ it's what I consider _any_ dental trip. I have very sensitive teeth and a natural (and chemical) resistance to Novocaine.. anything with a drill scares me. The fear of losing the teeth, and the fear while it's happening, are the worst parts. I was completely numb and gassed, even tho gas does little for me.. it was over quickly. If you can be put under, do it, even if you have to pay the $200-400 cash. They will usually give you Valium if you are willing to pee in a cup (be real with them, anesthesia and dope can kill you). Do it tho. It's changed my life. My stomach pains are gone, my headaches and dizziness are gone, I can eat without fear of pain or having to be super careful what part of my mouth I use for which foods, or being ashamed to talk to people or smile.. lost teeth are easier to handle than rotten one. By every margin. Please do it, take care of yourself! I say this without judgement, it took me _years_ and _decades_ to finally go through with it all. Mine were so bad I had about 22 appointments total, including 3 dental surgeries. But then I qualified for dentures bc I was missing so many teeth, so now my teeth are perfect haha I can eat ice-cream with my front teeth and bang cups into em no problem lol Stay safe

I would like to encourage all to see the Darkness, and with the ridiculously reasonable price of the VIP Experience, everyone should jump on that if they can. Haven't had a better time hanging in forever. They were all cool. I guess Dan is shy perhaps, as I really didn't get much chance to talk with him...He could have just had his head in the game, and was focused on the gig. Net time, I will make a point of saying hi, cuz I really do admire and respect his energy, playing, presence and CHOPS. I implore all, go to a Darkness gig, #2 Buy VIP passes (Best entertainment value per dollar I know of) #3 Have the greatest night out in forever, (now remembering what its like to go to a concert again)..#4 Enjoy the show, DON'T WATCH AND RECORD IT THRU UR PHONE!....and #5 Have SUCH A GREAT TIME...that you want to book tickets for next time, right then. This isn't coming from a fanboy...I am almost 60...Yes I came up during the Golden Age of the Recording Industry & Huge, Million Dollar production type concerts. Thats all cool, I'd rather be young & hearing stories about it, lol. Sad you never smell weed burning at shows anymore...save for some outside ones...I was able to be discreet with a vape pen. I do miss the communal experience of starting a joint, then passing, and it may go 10-12 people before it is burned up. That kind of sharing is built into us from before history, like any group of nomads, in a circle, taking something from the bowl, and passing it..I think thats why I liked passing joints, I knew I wouldn't get back at concerts. Most important thing is, everyone was so keyed up to see The Darkness..It felt like a weight being lifted...."We are at a CONCERT AGAIN!!!!" I know that sounds silly, but I really felt that giddy inside, at soundcheck, and Showtime was even ramped up from that.....Then it goes dark, gets LOUD, and Here comes the "Black Shuck!" 💢💥🤯😃😁🥳👏🎼🎶🎸🎸🔔🥁🎤

Thanks! Your reminded me of a poem my dad loved; The Value of a Smile A smile costs nothing, but creates much. A smile enriches those who receive without impoverishing those who give. A smile happens in a flash and the memory of it sometimes lasts forever. None are so rich they can get along without a smile, and none so poor but are richer for its benefits. A smile creates happiness in the home, fosters good will in a business, and is the countersign of friends. A smile is rest to the weary, daylight to the discouraged, sunshine to the sad, and nature’s best antidote for trouble. Yet a smile cannot be bought, begged, borrowed, or stolen; for it is something that is no earthly good to anybody ‘til it is given away. For nobody needs a smile so much as those who have none left to give. by Frank Irving Fletcher 😊

I got very close to getting adult braces over the past decade and Justin was literally the only role model I could find for encouragement. I know of one particular music video where they're actually visible (and they looked awesome). Interesting to see that altering teeth didn't affect his voice as I know Freddie Mercury avoided dental work to preserve his.
@CJ-oi7zm
@CJ-oi7zm 7 ай бұрын
Who knows if dental work would have affected Freddie mercurys voice. Obviously he believed it. Also his issue was differed. It was overcrowding that created a larger tooth palate and larger mouth opening so it could have impacted the breath flow while singing. But who knows, David Bowie had his teeth corrected in his 40s and it didn’t affect his voice. I think it was so smart and brave of JH to get braces and have his teeth corrected. It’s a procedure that’s not just for looks, but as he said, the phycological impact is so important, but also as we know, uneven teeth lead to gum issues which cause inflation leading to other serious health issues with heart and other illnesses. Braces are not just for pre-teens, everyone needing teeth correction should do it. Congrats JH on making such great choice.

I have really small teeth and because of gastric reflux, which I was unaware of what it actually was for most of my life, I want straight and just, flat ending teeths, but my local dentists keeps on insisting that you don't work on a smile in reguard of aesthetics and repositioning them. I don't fucking get it. Straightening your teeths is bad they tell me. Everywhere I look, people have their teeths worked on or redone. My dentist always advise against it. Wth? I don't know what to believe anymore, am I stuck with my teeth or am I not.

@@339blackdiamond get a New Dentist, get an opinion from a orthodontist. I had braces in late 50s ( getting braces late in life does not get them perfect like it would as a child, but it definitely makes a big improvement) , couldn’t afford braces as a child, and never been vain enough to do anything about it, although now I believe there’s nothing wrong with some degree of vanity, it’s basically doing for yourself what makes you feel good, I guess it’s that phycological impact, the happier inner feeling JH noted. But I invested in myself in getting braces at a late stage in life for health reasons. To lower inflammation, and reduce heart risk from the inflammation damage. Inflammation is the origin of many illnesses. Do more research, get second and third opinion and do what you feel is best for yourself.

I wonder if Freddie wasn’t simply afraid of the dentist and/or dental surgery and used the singing thing as an excuse to stop people asking about it. Bowie always seemed to be somewhat self-conscious about his teeth as you can see from footage of him when he had long hair. I think he started having them cleaned more often around 76 (when he starred in The Man Who Fell to Earth) and then had them fully corrected by 82 (Let’s Dance). Of course the most inspiring was seeing Shane McGowan fix his teeth and how happy it made him.

While I'm not diminishing the effects of that know that so many people watch you with joy and you bring such joyous levity to so many. Hang in there keep a smile and revel in the fact that you are a cool cat! ✌️

I noticed that and the fact it looks like it's been washed a few times. You do wonder when artists have on a brand new t shirt. Not that I'd doubt Justin anyway with his love and knowledge of metal along with many other genres. Just happy it looks lovingly worn. My Motorhead and Slayer tour t shirts are falling to pieces but I can't bring myself to throw them away.

Had a great time at your show in sf a few weeks ago, i was the only one singing love is only a feeling when you asked for your best song, to lead into a thing called love, sorry, i was a bit drunk but later, when the cringes subsided and the mrs stopped laughing at me i realised i stand by this. Awesome new tat, i mustve watched hawk the slayer a thousand times as a kid.

One of the coolest things I've ever seen happened at a The darkness gig a while back. They were playing the nerve centre in derry (A tiny venue) and Justin grabbed the guitar from a side stage toss for the outro solo for "Love is only a feeling". It was just a really feel good moment. Didn't miss a note either! Lol. I've been to a bunch of gigs/concerts over the years but that was still top tier.

Interesting perspective by the dude commenting on Queen but that makes me wonder how much he knows about them. Queen were not going to be denied. I don't think their attitude would have been any different today. They worked hard, had great music, and are the best live band ever, IMO. The fan base is not a coincidence. They had the fan base because they put on a fantastic show with great music. They were excellent musicians who really enjoyed performing and making the audience feel like they were part of the show. The way they connected with the audience made them who they are today. That is a gift that not every performer has. The fact that they are still relevant today even without Freddie is due to their ability to adapt. They continue to bring in new fans. I do not think they would have been rejected by the record companies. They had a great product and the determination to go after what they wanted. I believe they would be successful in any era.

My Niece is not long turned 5. For about a year and a half now - maybe even two years - one of her favourite songs is Bohemian Rhapsody. She also likes other Queen songs. The fact is nobody told her to like these songs. I can attest first hand, from our car journeys, she isn't one to be swayed. She knows what SHE likes and she knows which of my songs she doesn't like. The point is most of what she likes is the sort of kiddy stuff you'd expect. But Queen was just this outlier. To me that is testament to how brilliant and captivating their music is. So I think it doesn't matter when Queen happens. Just to continue the story a bit, a few months ago she heard another "grown up" song that is now one of her favourites. Her little playlist had run through and so YT Music just started playing other random stuff. As I was driving at the time I was blissfully unaware, just not really paying attention to the fact her young mind was now in new music territory. Fast forward a week or so and she asks me to play this new song. She says, as though it makes perfect sense, "Can you play the Pink & Purple song". I enquire if this is a song they sing at school about colours, but it wasn't. Then I remember this thing she's been watching on Kids YT where these children have the room split in two colours. It must be some song that they sing, but it wasn't! She's getting a little frustrated with me because apparently I know what the song is and we listened to it before. But I persuade her I can't think of it right now but we will find it later. However, a couple of minutes later I see it in my mind, clear as day - pink and purple. The song was Ain't no Mountain High Enough, and it was the album cover for Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell's Greatest Hits! She also got me again just the other day. Told me she couldn't find the "Mud" song. Again I had no clue and was asking her where she hears this song. Though, a minute or so later she spots it. As it begins to play I recognise it instantly - In the End by Linkin Park. As I glance at my phone and see the album art it seems to make sense. It does look kinda dirty or "muddy". However, when I told my brother the story later he first agreed, but then began to laugh in a moment of realisation. He put the song on but the video version; it took all of 20 seconds to realise why it's the "Mud" song 😂
