Justin you personally revived classic rock at a time when it really needed it in the UK. You brought back the fun of Roth, the swagger of Jagger and the frivolity of Mercury. Sure, some people hated it but I myself needed it at a time when radio 1 was slowly causing me to decide which bridge to jump from. You seriously helped me get out of a very dark place (no pun intended).

I never took The Darkness as a "joke band", more like a rock band that doesn't take themselves too seriously. I think that if The Darkness was around when Meatloaf was originally popular they would've been huge, I mean think about it, they had a charting song during a time that was completely dominated by Pop and hip-hop. That's quite a fucking accomplishment in my humble opinion.

I absolutely loved The Darkness the first time I heard I Believe In A Thing Called Love. It was so flamboyant and bombastic I immediately admired the chance they were taking with it. It took huge balls because at that time there wasn't anything close. Picking an outer space concept for the video was genius because there was nothing on the planet like it at the time. The thing that made it work was it was a fantastic song, otherwise they'd have never got away with it. You can talk shit all day as long as you could back it up. The Darkness could back it up, they had the goods.

I really don’t get people calling the darkness a comedy band. They exploded onto the radio with a true old rock sound and awesome tracks. We need more stuff like this, when a track comes out that’s a bit heavier and plays on TFM people like it then regress back to generic pop within a few weeks. Perplexes me that people don’t seek out more music like this considering most pop music listeners enjoy it when the radio plays it, they seem to think and say ‘it’s so different!’. Yes, there’s millions of hours of music that’s like this, go find it for god sake!

The Darkness is one the best live acts I've ever seen, Permission to Land is a f**king masterpiece. (Edit) I still have my cap from the merch stand!

A masterpiece built on ridiculous hype and floundered on the cliché ' difficult second ' album. Not a bad band and I like Justin but they had their shot and blew it!
@burtbackattack2 жыл бұрын
@@michaeldean7220 Glad you agree it's a masterpiece and you're probably right about the "difficult second album" thing, although I guess it's a cliche for a reason, as in it's extremely common. Not really sure they blew it though unless you're judging a band purely on their ability to fill a stadium on a regular basis in which case 99.9% of bands who ever put out a record blew it.
@michaeldean72202 жыл бұрын
@@burtbackattack I guess it's fair to judge artists on ticket sales and music sales. I don't think that initially explosion of hype did them any good. As well documented egos and substances got in the way. Having said this I think Justin comes across as charming, knowledge and articulate. I love the you tube clip of him taking to task the idiot throwing a bottle on stage.
@burtbackattack2 жыл бұрын
@@michaeldean7220 I don't disagree with you that they could potentially have been a much bigger band than they are now but given how hard it was (and still is) to for any band/artist to make it in the music business I think they've done pretty well. I suspect you may be right about the ego/drug abuse thing though (the biggest rock and roll cliche of them all!), I'm pretty sure Frankie Poullain left the band for a while because of that stuff. Justin is a very likeable guy though isn't he? He seems a natural at this KZbin malarkey.

Have always been a fan of your music Justin, and The Darkness remains the only band I've ever seen live in concert. ❤ I didn't think it was possible to like you any more, but this KZbin channel has done just that! Really refreshing to see someone so authentic, original and genuinely funny on the internet. Too many people try too hard to come across like this, but you don't, because you just are! Keep on riding, Justin! :D

The Darkness are something of a Joke, an epic joke that never gets old. Here's to more years of being, most excellent and putting smiles on peoples faces.

Justin is very funny and extremely eloquent. The way he explained all the the definitions of irony makes me think he would make a great teacher.

So glad I recently found your channel... Loved a few 'Darkness' jams back in the day but your candor, musicianship, humor and energy just beam on screen. And, let me add I'd you would, the way you flipped irony on that prick was absolutely epic (Edit: and every other keyboard warrior). Cheers from Ohio. So pumped that you seem to be doing exceedingly well with your channel!!! LOVE THE CONTENT.

I love all your content and you've even got me digging some Darkness music which I didn't really prior to subscribing to your channel. The comment reaction videos are quickly rising to the top as my favorites. Your takedown of that dooshy irony guy was galactic (I was gonna say "epic" but I suddenly thought of that video of yours on the spaceship so "galactic" felt more appropriate). Thanks, Sir!

The Darkness is amazing. One of the only shows I've been to in my life, easily the most fun. Justin sang happy birthday to my niece Landry and made her entire year. The fact that he stopped the show and had an entire conversation with her and her dad was amazing, at a less than 2K person show in a small town in NJ. Awesome dude, just discovered this channel, love it.

“Off ya’ Fuck.” Precious, I’m definitely adding this to my every conversation. As well as that, I’m always appreciating how eloquently well spoken ya’are.

Why did it take me so long to find this ? Pure genius. Love your use of language Justin and the lessons in the art of trolling and how not to suck at it. I couldn't sleep and woke my husbeast up snorting with laughter.

Young men in particular hate successful musicians out of jealousy, always have. Hawkins is a true musicologist and I salute him!

Yeah, quite a few of them do, don't they! I found that it's much more pleasant and productive to try and learn from them. One excellent treatment for feeling inadequate is to endeavour to become adequate.

Just found your channel and I love it! You respond so well to haters! I always loved The Darkness, its been cool to get to know you outside of that band.

The fact that they take the piss out of themselves and the rock industry while writing really good catchy classic rock tunes is the reason I absolutely love this band, songs like giving up giving a fu¢k are some of my favorite songs just because it's original, funny as fu¢k, puts me in a good mood and there's no other band's that write good music like that, love the darkness🤘
