just an amateur player here and just bumped on your channel, but I suddenly got mesmerized by your background wall full of tools..it suggests you did dive deep into craftmanship and you likely adjust any single anomaly you find in each of your instrument by yourself. I love it!

That's Morrie Backun's workshop, a wonderful clarinet maker.

This is great and all and I love all Backun products, but not all of us can afford a Backun clarinet and shouldn't be penalized for it during an audition

For someone who played with the Met opera orchestra, NY Phil, Philadelphia and has been soloist with orcehstras all over the world, Id probably listen to him if I was a clarinetist. Ive listened to hundreds of clarinetists..he plays in tune more than any of them.

Revshare Global I know this is old but I’d suggest that most people who get annoyed with the sound of the clarinet are mostly annoyed with the out of tune playing. I’ve learned audiences are very accepting of different clarinet tones. From very bright and edgy, almost sax like all the way to deep and dark like typical German players. What matters most is tuning.

What I took from this video is that you cannot play in tune with any other clarinet besides a MoBa, which is just not true.

The Ridenour clarinets play very well in tune. And there are some clarinet makers Germany who make very well in tune clarinets. But at $1200 anyone can afford a Ridenour clarinet that acoustically is very in tune.

FizzyPopFuzz I think he was referring to Buffet since they are so dominant. Most of them, especially the R13, are badly designed. They are just too far out of tune. (The Tosca is actually pretty well tuned, though notably not as even as a MOBA).

I use a Ridenour G1 and it is spectacularly even and well in tune with itself. So much so that it can be tough playing with Buffet players who tend to play certain notes disgustingly out of tune.

Hi, I have a buffet b12 and a cocobolo fatboy 66mm and here in Honduras we tune to 440hz and I'm always very high in pitch I don't know if it's the clarinet or it's my fault, but it's really hard ti get it to 440 I get a lot out from the bell to the barrel and when the B is finally in tune the other notes goin down (b, a , g) sound very low. And my low f doesn't sounds low

In my last comment I clearly said that Ricardo is great, so why was my comment deleted? Can't someone disagree without being deleted?

I play a Ridenour Lyrique Bb clarinet and have never had a problem with being flat on low E or F. So as great as Ricardo is, he is WRONG.

+Apollo Alva Ricardo said it himself, It's not about the label, it's about the sound. Sure he is going to recommend a Moba because he is a backun artist and this video is being filmed and realeased by Backun. Ridenour's clarinet have great intonation.

If they aren't flat, aren't other notes too sharp? Plus Ridenours sound kinda wack in my experience
