For Americans who don't like tea....try it the way the British drink it next time you're there. It was a revelation to me when my Irish roommates made me tea with skim milk and sugar. It's good and actually gives just as much of a buzz as coffee!

@@Paratus7 Churchill was most definitely an alcoholic. He was however a functioning alcoholic. He used to drink champagne at breakfast, in Pol Roger One Imperial Pint bottles. Something which are now being revived now the UK has left the EU. He would then drink Scotch throughout the day, and beer, wine and brandy. There was an experiment of two American gentlemen who copied Churchill's diet of food and alcohol for the day, needless to say they felt extremely drunk by the end of the day, and quite ill the day after. It is clear that Churchill merely became accustomed to the amount of alcohol he consumed over time. He must have just had a strong metabolism that could cope with his excesses.
@Swindle19844 ай бұрын
He drank several glasses of watered down whiskey in the morning, a glass of wine at breakfast, a full magnum bottle of champagne and a glass of cognac at lunch, several more glasses of watered down whiskey during the afternoon, and then another magnum bottle of champagne at dinner, with another glass of cognac for a night cap. He absolutely was an alcoholic. He also averaged 8 cigars a day.

This is such bollocks. Firstly, in those days the English breakfast was never served to a Gentlemen, he would help himself in a buffet style. Eggs, one rasher of bacon, toast and condiments constituted an "English breakfast", possibly a kedgeree or kippers and brown toast if staff are in residence but never all together. He would mix his morning red label with 90% tonic to cleanse the water and himself. Remember Sir Winston was 65 years old when he became PM and famous to the Empire. Before that, Lord of the Admiralty, writer, reporter and soldier. His diet changed massively in his later years but the constant booze intake remained, which was common in Whitehall, then and now I might add.

I figured the typical English breakfast was his favorite. The BRITs are the only people in Europe that eat breakfast the way Americans do, but on most of mainland, Europe, a roll, or a croissant with butter and jam or pastry and coffee is sufficient for them. Very common in Spain, France, Germany, and Italy.

Winston Churchill had a very weak whiskey in the morning that was often called mouthwash. I think this is actually really interesting that he would drink alcohol so early and then run a country in war time. The same old Indian lie. Why do you keep repeating it? Churchill did NOT cause the Bengal famine. If you do some proper research you'll find there were a number of reasons involving various competing groups, including rice distributors, and the Imperial Japanese Army, none of which involved a deliberate attempt by Churchill to starve the population of Bengal. And yet there are Indian sources that continually spread the lie that Churchill was somehow personally responsible, or that he could have halted the famine. Then how come there are respected Indian historians who say this wasn't true?
