As a former chief exec of a charity I applied to two autism charities who were advertising for trustees. Those are volunteer positions. Both said they would get back to me but never did. I think this is a significant issue. There are very few autistic people working for, or leading, organisations that claim to speak for autistic people.

In the past 6 months, the more I follow #ActuallyAutistic content on social media, the more I got frustrated. This is a good time to pick up the pace and continue to fight for acceptance, but I'm currently in burnout and had to take a step back from all the chaos. But I will be back and try me best to build bridges of neurodiversity. I hope you can keep at it as well. Your experience and wisdom is greatly needed and appreciated.

It reminds of when right-wingers ask who's "behind" antifa. No one? It's not an organisation, it's an idea people collectively get behind and use to identify others who share their views. Some people can't comprehend the notion of people just agreeing to do things without there being some directing force ordering or paying them to do it. Which is a bit sad, really. Reflects how hollow their own lives must be.

You've earned yourself a new subscriber, friend! 😎 I was formally diagnosed at age 3, and I've recently started using #ActuallyAutistic to market myself among friends, family, and prospective clients as a self-advocate. You don't see many Autistic owned businesses here in Canada since the support systems in place are lacking, and the diagnostic criteria is still dated as hell. I started embracing my entrepreneurial spirit since my knack for problem solving and thinking outside of the box has persisted since I was a child. This is why I started my own business and working out by myself! I do agree with you on the issue of #ActuallyAutistic has seen its fair share of gatekeeping and bullying in response to its growing trends on social media. Ignorance is bliss, sadly. 😑 But hey, I'm happy to shine a light on this issue and educate others on the myths and misconceptions about Autism! Keep up the great work! Glad to know I'm not alone in this pursuit of understanding! ✌️

Well. I don’t know that I am. I strongly suspect I am. All the online assessments I’ve tried say it’s a strong possibility. I relate like crazy to most of the criteria. And folks tire of my ‘ways’ quickly. They also say you’re not autistic you’re just weird. So maybe one day I’ll know. Maybe not

I am #ActuallyAutistic. I suspected for a long time, but was not diagnosed until several months ago. I never said that I was autistic before I received the diagnosis, because until then, I didn't know.

Hi, I was wondering who were the researchers (those who went full circle) you mentionned ? I must add that I enjoyed the words you use and your way of delivering them. Your script really flows. How many takes (roughly) does it take you to finish a 10ish minute video ?
@Autistamatic3 жыл бұрын
Hi. There are a number of high-profile researchers, still lauded as "autism experts" who have disowned the theories that made their reputation so it would be unfair to pick just one. My filming usually takes around 30mins after about the same time rehearsing, so roughly an hour's "live" work for the finished 10 minute video.
@abogado23473 жыл бұрын
@@Autistamatic No worries about the researchers.

A perfect explanation of an unnecessary and cruel situation that is still going on and on. But what is interesting is that the people abusing others, on whatever sides, don't seem to understand the transparency of the social media medium. Everything that happens can be seen - and interpreted in ways that the antagonists may not understand. In other words, all actions are apparent. Thank you.
