I was never homeschooled, and I didn’t know anyone else who was growing up. I remember hearing homeschooled kids were weird and not properly socialized, I believed it until I got older and met actual people who were homeschooled. They were all so kind, creative, well rounded, and intelligent people. When I adopt I’m planning to homeschool if I can.

Awesome. People might call that "cHilD AbuSe" but it's not like they can't go to public school anytime. And I'm not happy doing it traditionally. Being online doesn't help. My everyone's doing their best they can right now, FYI. It's not that I don't want to do the work, but it's all completely useless. And knowing that living off-grid is doable, I'm not willing to put my potential where it shouldn't.

This is so interesting- my homeschooled kids do a ton of groups, playdates, drama classes etc. Parents should make the effort to ensure their kid has all the opportunities they want when it comes to socialising.
@ASmith-jn7kf Жыл бұрын
Why? Getting together with others often is distracting, can open your children up to bad experiences and the possibility of good, of getting sick, and of teaching them to care too much what people think like other kids. Everyone homeschools for different reasons but to me I love seeing that my kids are growing into people that do not care about many of the things I cared about and certain things don't even come into their mind that are insecurities of mine. As they get older and their personalities and characters are developed more I can definitely understand if they want to be around people making that happen but if not, then okay. Many people like to be alone, I was not homeschooled and I like to be alone and many school children are anti-social.
@cdeshaw1986 Жыл бұрын
@@ASmith-jn7kf So if your kid is anti social the answer is to lean into it and not make them be social at the cost of their education? Seems like nurturing to me. How will they ever learn anything or grow with this avoidant attitude? genuinely asking.
@alessm2206 Жыл бұрын
Ooo yes, let them socialize and explore their hobbies even as little kids. I think having those and continuing to show interest in trying new things in high school has encouraged me to do explore and try new things in college and as an adult.

@@ASmith-jn7kf Many people like to be alone because of their phones and tiktok, not because it's a natural thing. I believe you're worsening the problem by doing that.
@bondvabond7 ай бұрын
@@ASmith-jn7kfI understand this reasoning and that this is what you feel is best for your kids, but this is a fundamentally flawed way of thinking and will lead to anti-social adults afraid of confrontation and the fear of what others think will hit them WORSE. Humans are a fundamentally social species. The parts that make life worth living are also primarily social things, like family, friends, romantic partners and SHARING our passions with others. Not allowing children the space or time to socialize might seem good here in the now, but children are not going to live at home their whole lives. Eventually, they’ll need to work and move out. At that point, nearly everybody around them has decades of experience socializing, whereas these children do not have the necessary skills to cope with the real world. They become outcasts, struggle with severe social anxiety and struggle to make friends or understand other people’s boundaries. Nobody wants to see their kid get sick, care about what others think or undergo other bad experiences, but these are unfortunately fundamental parts of the human experience we all need to undergo at some point or another in order to develop into well adjusted adults. Trying to block that might seem like a kind thing to do, but it is quite the opposite.

There are plenty of people with social anxiety BECAUSE of schooling, too. My dad was extremely social in school, but now he's reclusive. Being homeschooled, I actually get a lot of time to think about decent behaviour, kind things, and what to say. I read my Bible and get to prepare and perfect the next interaction before it even happens, so that everyone walks away from it happy. Staying calm and being honest are very important. Everyone can detect honesty and it is very admirable, it can relax a conversation immediately. I hope you can enjoy your social interactions soon, too. 🙂👍

Back in high school, I had a crush on a co-worker who was a year ahead of me. She was home schooled until grade 12, came to my high school for the final year. By social standards set in my brain, I had made peace that we would just be friends, given how devastatingly beautiful she was(and of course by social standards, not just my own). I spent a lot of time with her, bike rides, hanging out etc... Let every single cue fly over my head. She was so obviously interested in me, but I had been conditioned to ignore that possibility to the Nth degree. She ended up moving away during college, and to her I guess I was always that oblivious friend she had a crush on. Wild learning experience in retrospect.

Classical Conversations people leave a like on this comment! “CC” is a homeschool co-op that lets kids have a community day where they make presentations or have class discussions. Unlike a normal classroom, it’s not just the teacher talking, by high school senior students lead most of the subjects and throughout middle and high school homeschoolers talk among themselves about the topic. It’s awesome, I just graduated from it. I had to write a 20 page senior thesis and defend it in front of a panel of judges in front of an audience. I probably would have finished early out of my own initiative and been able to start working and exploring real life earlier, instead of being stuck in classrooms with weird people for a decade of my life. Also, there are plenty of homeschooling programs that allow for more peer interaction on a weekly basis than you would get doing everything with a parent at home. It’s not black and white, and every kid is different.

Like the ability to just be cool with anyone no matter their age, knowing how to manage myself, understanding my learning style and how I operate, are serving me soooo well. I know a lot of people my age have a hard time adjusting into the life of having to make the effort to make friends instead of just being around them at school and stuff like that but tbh being homeschooled I kinda missed that step. It was always an effort to go out and socialize. Now I’m a huge homebody introvert so I like the excuse to be by myself lolol but adult life feels so normal in that way

but where ? the school experience studying and learning with people is best especially as I am an only child
@aucoinhorror9 ай бұрын
@@cutiroseWhen I was homeschooled, I did (at varied points) sports, dance classes, acapella, community theatre, volunteering, book clubs, youth group, homeschool art meetups, weekly homeschool park days, activities at my local library, my local aquarium/art museum both held classes specifically for homeschoolers, etc. So I saw people constantly.

@@aucoinhorror Nah I mean for only child homeschool is a bit lonely without any siblings at home. Its good for those with many siblings and cut off ost which can be used for good classes like you had

how can someone be so extroverted if they are homeschooled
@giorgiatpwk1023 Жыл бұрын
extroverted means that you gain energy by being with people. it has nothing to do with being homeschooled, plus we don't know if she is gaining energy by being with them so yeah ahah
@fastec5 Жыл бұрын
Every homeschooled person I've ever met has been a mega introvert or just so socially awkward they are forced to be an introvert cause they can't converse in a meaningful way lol. But once you get them talking they refuse to stop.

As someone who switched from private school to homeschool, homeschoolers are the most extroverted people ever
@r.t.5767 Жыл бұрын
Extroversion is a personality trait, you can be extroverted, but not well socialized and vice versa - a well socialized introvert. Homeschooling doesn't mean you can't socialize with others afterwards
@leoxd7029 Жыл бұрын
@@fastec5 that has nothing to do with homeschooling and everything with being insecure about talking. This often happens when people do nothing except play video games in their off time instead of hitting the gym or doing things that actually are real that they enjoy. Saying this as someone who played video games most of his teenage years in his time off. But when I hit the gym regularly and orientated myself in life, I went from quiet dude to socially completely secure and capable.

Homeschooled kids tend to have very few negative experiences with social interactions so they tend to talk to everyone, no matter their age.

As a black kid who went to a primarily white school shit was tragic and white people no matter how much we explain it won't understand why beyond the bullying. Yea white kids talking shit and making you feel like less of a person is shit but also as a person who didn't have smart parents i didn't know shit about my culture or how to take care of myself bc my parents never really taught me that stuff and they weren't really actually raising me.

thats painful, but also a very hard lesson, I think you'll know this when youre a parent and maybe homeschool them and teach them

I grew up being homeschooled. I didn't feel like I was actually as sheltered as it is explained. It's not like I was trapped in my house. But, if I went out and saw some kids I wouldn't know who they were because I didn't see them because they were always in school.

It’s lonely, bro. Ever since Covid, I’ve been studying online at home. Then, I still chose online school when they let us pick between online or offline only to realize how lonely it was and that I got extremely scared when I’m in public alone.

I'm in 10th grade, and have been homeschooled since 3rd grade. Usually the only time I leave the house is to go to a homeschool co-op on Wednesday, and then church on Sunday. Other than that, its just grocery shopping. So, when I see someone outside of my family, I could literally talk to them for about an hour.

I am homeschooled and I’m the same way. I have no care for trends or social media or what people think about me. I don’t talk to people a lot because I’m shy. I mean, when I get to know you, yeah. I talk. A lot. But everything she’s saying is true. The difference between my friends that don’t homeschool and my friends that do is amazing. And I would much rather hang with my homeschool homies.
