First of all people can climb to Everest without oxygen, but they can only stay up there for a bit. Secondly, it’s been done before. But for real, no magic trick. Larry Walters did this entire thing for real. In LA, the LAX airport was seeing him on their radar, it’s a crazy story and one worth looking into. You will realize when reading that story what it’s really like and how government officials get involved in this when someone really is up that high. You will also hear how the wind becomes super harsh up there. Blowing people miles and miles off course. That’s why David Blane does magic, and Larry Walters is just crazy.

I have stumbled upon your channel yesterday, watched a bunch of your reactions to America's Got Talent tricks, even though I was never into magic tricks, cards and all that, and ended up watching David's ascension completely, finishing it when it was 3am at my place (I live in Moscow). Also in response to the oxygen/Everest thing, there are people that can do the climb without oxygen tanks (the Sherpas, mostly). I’m not saying that David could climb Everest without an oxygen tank, but I do think his breath holding stunts would make him much more prepared for that than almost anybody else (in regards to the breathing, not the climbing)

Spot on. although I don't think this was promoted mainly as being dangerous(obviously there is still some talk of the dangers) but David said himself in some interviews that this was the first stunt he could really enjoy as it wasn't as much about danger. I think it was a bit boring at times but overall pretty sweet. I loved watching David talking to the ground crew who seemed way more worried than David himself. Dope stuff loving the content

I mean as far as his other stunts being harder than this one, he made a good point, that being this one scared him the most because this one was “out of his control” with the other stunts he knew what to prepare for and was used to it, with wind patterns and balloons it was bit more chancy

Dane severinson a freediver held his breath for 22 minutes. And usually are working at least one or both directions in a free dive. While he probably was just sitting still for 22 min, he had 0 air to replenish. Blaine had a bit. Even 28K feet, top of Everest people have climbed w/o supplemental O2. Sherpas do it multiple times. I have been to just under 14,000 feet my SPO2, (saturated peripheral oxygen) in my blood, normally runs 98 (out of 100%) , at that elevation the partial pressure caused my o2 to drop to about 89. (At normal sea level-ish nurses or doctors start getting concerned at 92 or below). Just simply walking caused my SPO2 to drop down into the 60s. (Again sea level, nurses would be in a panic). So I believe you are right, just sitting and calming himself during the flight help alot. Plus his generally good health and physical shape. I am not in great shape (unless discussing pears). So he should easily have better numbers at higher altitudes.

Just a couple of things: 1. He had to move location from NY (his hometown) to Arizona a few days out due to weather conditions, so had a few days to scout locations. 2. I don't know whether you've been on a balloon ride before - I have - you cant just pick the spot you will land with accuracy, its not an airplane, its a balloon/s at the mercy of the wind (direction/speed). Basically, he didnt have a clue where he would be when he jumped and didnt have a clue what locations would be available based on where he would end up. All he knew was that he needed to avoid power lines and other obstacles that could potentially kill him!

The "misdirection" in Danger Magic is that it's nowhere near as dangerous as they pretend it is. There are safeties and controls built in that they misdirect you from by proclaiming how dangerous it is. My favorite one is the lie that "I've never even practiced this! It's too dangerous to practice, because I could die!"
@hitmanhatton
@hitmanhatton 3 жыл бұрын
As long as you're a capable person who has gone over what to do until you are confident then this stunt is not dangerous anyone has the ability to do it him holding his breath under water is probably the most challenging thing he's ever done
@wishtribe
@wishtribe 3 жыл бұрын
The only things I found dangerous about the stunt was why did he not wear the parachute the whole time? Putting it on in the air seemed weird and unnecessary. The respirator requiring his hand to push a button every time he wanted to breathe seemed weird too. Other than that, I didn't really ever sense any danger. His bullet catch was waaaaaaay more dangerous.
@chrisjung7139
@chrisjung7139 3 жыл бұрын
Because of the changing pressure of the air, a spring loaded respirator would either stick open or be impossible to activate with a breath in. And continuous flow wastes alot of o2. So he manually takes a hit when he needs one.

I agree 100% with your thoughts, but This was entertaining.. even though I wasn’t really worried about anything going wrong, the chance was still there. I hated the fake worries before the start and hated even more when David asked if he could release the weights, even though everyone could see the weights going down, so there was no need to be “cleared”.

@RandolfLycan
@RandolfLycan 3 жыл бұрын
I agree that it definitely wasn't as gnarly as his other stunts in the past but there was most certainly an element of danger when he started getting really high up. If he became hypoxic, he would have been pretty screwed. Even though there was backup plans, it still would have taken a while to get him safely down. And yes I also agree that there was no way some of the back and forth he had with his crew, was the 1st time he was going over this with them. I thought that was just a little thing to give the crowd a behind the scenes look. I didn't interpret that as anything else. Also to those saying it's fake because "how could he breathe at that altitude"? Umm you realize he set breath holding records, right? Pretty sure he's well trained to deal with high altitudes. At the end of the day, I feel there was more danger than you perhaps let on in this video, but I also agree there wasn't near as much danger than what was being hyped up. But I also don't even think there was supposed to be. I think this was just about him living a childhood dream and sharing that with his daughter.

I wanted it to be fake, when i heard about what he was going to do. I personally would not go on a hot-air balloon ride and I for sure wouldn't skydive. I do understand that with multiple balloons, if a few popped, he would fall at a safe speed (possibly even if up to 70% popped [not real estimate]), as opposed to a single hot air balloon where the balloon tears and you fall full speed. However, not standing on a surface, being up in the air, to me, is terrifying. Of course he wouldn't do it if the odds were heavily against him. However, I think there were very real chances of him falling to his death, not 0%.

Who else here have no abilities or talent within magic? Just curious and truly interested in magic. I personally really enjoy being tricked. Being fooled with magic is a fun experience. Yes we do over time figure how things are done, but the skill and speed of these performers are breathtaking. Nothing but respect to them all, except those fake magicians with payed actors. That ain't no skill and they are almost scamming people. Not really entertainment in my eyes. Fool me legitimately :) I almost never comment on this channel, but I absolutely love the content here ♥️

My take on this: This stunt has few difficulty if we consider for other skydivers. The amount of time he was in minus C temp ...extreme heat...and without oxygen is not an easy task. He had developed and combined those skills developed over years to accomplish this. On the youtube sponsor this, even though youtube or big investors only invest in promising projects but technical failure is always there. Various redbull sponsored events had some catastrophic failures. Even airplanes crash 😎that are backed by huge investors. But i agree there was acting involved before ancession like that harness and landing thing. What if someone wants to take over this like gk higher and in same way: 1. Develop a heat resistant capacity 2. Develop a cold resistant capacity 3. Develop a long breathing capacity 4. Become a certified skydiver 5. Get a commercial hot air balloon pilot license 6. Get a gas balloon pilot license 7. Have a good engineering team 8. Have a mentor and supervisor 9. Have a huge budget that covers all expenses from skydiving hundred of times..developing rig ..practice...staffs costs for the duration..

There are 2 options. 1) He was lying to us. 2) He was lying to his daughter. I really hope, and do believe, it's #1. I mean, seriously... with how involved his daughter was in all this, if anything went wrong and he was harmed, there's no way she wouldn't have blamed herself for the rest of her life. He couldn't have let that go wrong. He was super secure on those balloons. He even had foot stirrups to stand on. FAA (US Federal Aviation Administration) & ATC wouldn't have let him enter air space without following a ridiculous amount of safety precautions. Honestly, the biggest danger was botching the skydive.
