when I was little, I lived in France. One morning, my mom was away to work and she had put me into her bed. She had left a light on because she knew when I wake upI needed some light. So I woke up and realized that first I was in my mom´s bed and that she was´nt there. and turned my head to the left and directly near my head on the pillow sat a small creature in the size of an "Christmas elf"-what I just learned now :), as soon as it realized that Ihad seen it, it jumped from the pillow, to the blanket in direction of my feet, I was totaly puzzled, pulled myself up a little to try to see more and to understand what I saw. But it hopped into the folds of the blanket which were rather thick, it was winter, and it vanished there somehow. I stood up to search for it but remained disappeared! I remember it like it was yesterday. It was real, I know it was´nt a dream.It was a male, it had clothes on, there was a greenish longpant, a yelloish shirt and a greyish cap. I never knew about elfs before, I learned about it later, when Istarted to read. I will never forget this event! I puzzles me 60 yrs. later. And one day also in France on the way back from school, there was a swallow following me right into the staircase of the building where I lived. Later in my life I learned about Tolkien, saw the Lord of Ring with my late daughter, Iam fascinated by the beauty of Galadriel. What a wonderful part of the world. Glad I found your channel. Thank you and I wish you a wonderful festive season and more people to find your channel !🙏

I decided to play with my own version of elves, alluding to their more 'angelic' aspects from the older myths meshed with the 'demonic' elements that started during the medieval period

I have to go with Tolkien simply because of the immense amount of worldbuilding he did with them, and Warcraft as a close second, though im aware that some other games have built a decent amount of lore for their elves like Warhammer or Dragon Age i've never played them so i'm unfamiliar with their depictions. But, though elves are one of my favorite fantasy creatures/beings, right up there with dragons and wizards, i'm perpetualy annoyed at how they're often portrayed as being at the brink of extinction, like an Atlantis type thing about to happen, though im perfectly aware that all civilizations have their highs and their lows and most definitively an ending. It still sucks though😅

In Scandinavia there are spelling differences that tell them apart. Alver.. who are Elves, like Tolkien’s versions. And then there are Alfer, Svartalver, Mjödvitner, Elfs, Pixies or Faries (Älvor). Huge differences between them.

Tolkien and norse mythology elf us the true elf, what you call Christmas elfs are just a different version of brownies, goblins, gnomes mixed with dwarven lore, what we in the Scandinavia calls "Tomtenisse" or "Vätte" (vettir in old norse)

Romanticizing. Another good example. A cheribum is a massive, freightning being, but here today, we have a baby in a diaper with a bow. People have over laid the ELF over the majority of Fae folk. It is a consequence of a desire for simplicity over the complexity of intellectual knowledge. So much has been lost due to modernity. Grwat video and research, by the way. Im look forward to seeing more of your work.

I have a couple of words that I created if I ever get to write them. One is a comic book world where at first the Hus(hyous) started. People began to have super powers like the X-Men, or was giving powers like spider man or Captain America. A few decades later the mystics awakened. These were beings from ancient mythologies, began to appear. The elves had appeared in droves in Scandinavia so much that it all became the eleven queendon as their leader was female. In similar fashion the Tuath Dé Danann came out the hills in Ireland and brought the two two parts of the island back together as in Britain, King Arthur and his people marched on a bridge to the main land from the Isle of Man which was really Avalon but spiritly covered as a whole. In the other universe I've created which is like an 80s/90s style anime sci-fi there was two waring planets that finally found peace after a princess killed her evil father. They went on a joint mission to find other planets when they came apon modern day earth. After some deplomacy and with the help of technology the three planets started to share its people. The main story finds an orphan earth boy as a foreign exchange student to one of the planets. He loved living with his new family on zennona. A people that doesn't have fur but has the markings like zebras. They can also use magic with their technology. There is a festival for every full moon that they gather at a ancient looking portal. When it's activated it, it glows a bright bright blue. What comes out of this portal is elves. Token looking elves. The boy is shocked to see them as they are shocked to see him and the few other earthlings that are there. They had onced lived on earth but as the magic of the planet filtered, going from one place to the other, with their island being approached by humans, the elves went to the fairy world where they now live. They had portals of magic to other planets. They taught the people of zennona how to truly use the magic of the planet was at peace with them.

According to Arigh Harger, the more correct translation to Odin’s name are “master of order”
@MystOfMythology8 күн бұрын
That’s interesting, and a common theme for early religions. Where modern religions are more about good and bad, there’s more of an emphasis on order and chaos. So the name is sensible.
