You are on the right path when it comes to Native Americans braiding hair. Yes our hair was a sign of status, wisdom, and strength. There there is also another meaning. See I learned from some elsers after a girl i was dating braided mine, that a woman will braid the hair of her "betrothed" so to speak to say that he is no longer available, not even his own family should touch his hair. You take a small section of hair that's all the same length, divide it into three parts, and then braid them together. It helps if you have prior experience braiding. Tie them off with a small hair tie, you may need to get your own personal pack to get them small enough.

in my opinion i think the fact that they have kissed many times in the early stages of the franchise proves that even though they may not have been in a commited relationship for all the shows, they were in fact in love with eachother and saw eachother as the only loversto themselves.
