I enjoyed the video! This is probably the best all-around review I've seen of the XP. I just hit 70 miles with mine. I second the comments about tightening everything up. I did this a few times, then took it to my local bike shop and paid $25 for a full tune-up with adjustments and tightening, and it was money well spent. The tech had never seen or heard of "Lectric XP", so I told him to feel free to take it for a spin. When I came back to pick up the bike, he said, "Nice bike, and it's fast." Personally, I like the handlebars and grips and everything else. I carry a couple of massive u-locks in the saddle bags, plus a cable for the wheels and seat, and I bought a small toolkit, but otherwise I've made no modifications. Here are a couple of things that don't come across well in all the videos I've been watching, but I think prospective buyers will be interested in hearing: the bike is not only practical, it's fast and fun. I use mine for groceries and other errands, and I always take the long way home because it's so much fun (all ebikes of 500w or better are like this, tbh). Every time I'm out on it, people ask questions about it and want to know the specs and price. It's also rugged. I take mine in and out of my car regularly, and even though I always try to be careful, I have smacked it around. It takes the punishment like a champ. Plus I've hit a few pieces of broken pavement and some gigantic potholes, and nothing seems to unsettle or stop the bike -- fat tires are a revelation to me! I did a lot of research before settling on this bike, but in the end it was a risk of nearly a thousand dollars, and that's a lot of money on my budget. The risk was worth it.

@billwilliams58894 жыл бұрын
The LECTRIC has enough unique handling and power characteristics (surprises) that I’d be a little hesitant to let anyone just jump on it and take off. The combination of the short handlebar, 4” x 20” knobbies, bike weight, and electric propulsion make it necessary to get the feel of the bike in a safe environment before hitting the trails. The engineers put a lot of thought into how to administer the electric power. It has things like walk mode and cruise control, along with a throttle - but the Pedal Assist function (PAS) is the most interesting. There are 5 of them, with 4 and 5 being used only for 20+ And 24+ mph. But 1, 2, and 3 are what get used most often. 1 helps you maintain 8 mph, 2 helps with 12 mph, and 3 helps maintain 16 mph. The idea is that as long as you’re pedaling, then PAS will help you maintain that PAS’s mph.
@tekolicious83104 жыл бұрын
Very True. I think if you took all the electronics from this bike and put it on a full suspension frame, with wider handlebars and a better light. it would be a 1200 bike. but for the money it's good. I always tell people who try my bike leave it in PAS 1 and turn it to 0 at tight turns and hit the brakes if you feel scared at all since they have a cut off to the motor.

Old school rider / racer here. I’m used to road bikes with no suspension. For those who have never really ridden , it take about 500 miles to get used to your saddle. Sounds like a lot of miles but for racers we can get double the miles in one month. If you see a pot hole go around it or get your butt off the seat your knees and elbows are your suspension. Cool review, I’m looking into getting an electric to commute to work during winter months. Have fun riding.

The massive amount of research I did on folding 20" e bikes was unreal. I even considered direct from the Chinese factory as they are virtually the same bikes in many cases. I decided there isn't a perfect one for me - that has all the components and specs I'm looking for PLUS warranty and customer service which is very important. I started my research with Lectric and I ended my research with Lectric. One is on the way. If I want to add extras I will and I am well aware of what others have been doing. Under $1000 is a great psychological selling point.

I ordered one a few days ago. I'm a road cyclist and am used to narrow bars, 100 psi tires, no suspension, and an almost unpadded seat. Pretty sure this will feel like riding on glass. I ordered it to help polarize my training and still be able to commute to work at a decent speed. Only thing that is going to feel weird is the bars being higher than the seat. Might replace some stuff, but I'd like to keep mine as minimal as possible. Bike theft is huge where I live. Looks like the power level gauge is showing a real-time reading of available battery voltage. When you demand higher output from the battery (hills), it drags your voltage down and the gauge dips during the effort. Good to know. 👍

Most bike shops are not going to service ebikes other than MAJOR national brands that widely offer parts like Schwinn and others of that name recognition, and distribution, OR bikes that they themselves sell. Why? because these "boutique" sellers are having components made JUST for them (like Lectric's motor...). The good news is that unless you are planning on riding the *&^W$% out of your bike, and it taking a beating on off road trails, you're likely 1 in 1,000 chance of ever having a motor problem. If you search online, you just won't find numbers of people having bike motor problems because most are casual riders riding no more than 20 miles a week on long term average, and on flat roads far more often than major hills (since those riders that are hard core, and constantly doing hills do buy "tougher" bikes, or at least with 750 watt motors that do better up hills). Those conditions are well within the stress/durability factors that these motors are built to. Lastly, in many ways, a motor, is a motor, is a motor... On the off chance yours did die, if Lectric is still around, I'm pretty sure you could get a replacment, unless the've moved on model-wise at some point in the future. All that would mean is sourcing a 500 watt 20" rear rim/motor (Ebay for starters), and having someone wire it in. Admittedly, not trivial, but not life ending. Remember, it's a $1,000 bike, not a $26,000 SUV... But given the high ratings from users, you likely fall into the category of not needing to worry about a motor problem over the life of it. In reality, if you did keep the bike for years and years, you're much more likely to have to address a new battery, rather than fix anything, since the battery does have a fixed life. The good news there, since the odds are long against Lectric still having these batteries in 6-10 years from now, is that E-Bikes are becoming enough of a thing in the USA finally that rebuilders are popping up that can build a new battery for you, since all these bikes use stock 18650 Lithium Cells, same as Tesla runs their car on.

Dude you are very right on the comment, that is what lectric is doing. I looked into importing bikes and they are cheap enough, but the customs fees dock fees and shipping make it tough, it was like the bike cost 799 and the fees and shipping were like 500 so you would pay 1300 for it, now they(lectric) bought in bulk and created an logistical infrastructure to handle all the shipping process. That is the rub. you need the capital to hire people to handle all that, then work with a china manufacture to work out a deal and then compete with amazon and other companies in a niche market. Batteries and motors are still to pricey to get into this without major backing.

Great review. Great bike. It was a bit annoying about some of your complaints...when they were designed that was for a reason, like the handle bars. It's a compact folding bike. The bars are supposed to be compact. The power difference for rider sizes....duhhh. It's how motors work. Change the stuff and customize....make it yours. Don't lower tire pressure then complain about range...flat tires drag more. Don't complain about a rigid bike if you wanted suspension bike. Good review though.
@tekolicious83105 жыл бұрын
I agree. and I did change some things on the bike. the handlebars were to narrow for me. I am a big guy, so I wanted to point that out. I felt it was worth the trade off to be a little less compact for comfort. As far and complaining about suspension it was more of a wish list item that would have made the bike even better. If it was not pointed out than people and the manufacturer would not understand where to go with the next gen of the bike. So far I have replaced the handlebars the grips the pedals and painted the fenders, the bike is custom to my needs. Thanks for the comments :)

I have about 100 miles and have had no issues. I never had to tighten anything even though I checked. The only issue I have is the PAS system. PAS 1 and 2 are fine but once you get to PAS 3 the bike goes 20 miles and hour and hence PAS 4 and 5 are redundant. I wish they had true 5 levels with only 5 going to 20 mph. I don't plan to increase the speed to 28 as that would be to fast and legally could not be on bike paths. I did write Lectric about the PAS and they did not have any way to change it. To bad.

Hi Tekolicious, You filmed the MOST comprehensive review that I have seen or read about the Lectric XP 1.0, I've seen plenty too. I would encourage you to get a 2.0 and film a review equalling the quality of this review and to also include a link to Lectric bikes. Heck make a few bucks for giving a forthcoming, quality review. You deserve it. The 2.0 was put up for sale for the first time today. I ordered one. I just read through 100+ comments. I saw at minimum two dozen comments about your blowing the stop sign. Ridiculous. I'm sure that you got the point after three or four like that. You are an adult. You are responsible for your own decisions. To all of you "mother hens", he is NOT a child, and he is definitely not your child. He did us a great service by providing us with a quality review. Please, leave him alone with the chiding for the stop signs. Thank you all, JB

I dont know why you had problems. I have a cell phone holder, and a mirror . Room to spare. I didnt use the bell thing. It seemed pretty useless. The only problem I had was thecarrier in back, practically rides on top of the bumper. Ive seen some that have plenty of room, but I had to use a bunch of washers to push my light back where there would be more clearance. Shock!!!Yes would be. nice.

All these videos are just opinions.My opinion is the handle bars are just fine.To wide a handle bar when riding on sidewalk can be challenging avoiding people and light poles. These bars are great for dodging in and out.Brakes at good too once adjusted properly.I’ve had my bike for almost a year and has been flawless. My y friend rides it also and says everything about the bike is good.Again,just another opinion. Main thing when your purchasing is your true needs and wants.

Ok so they never said this bike is the Cadillac of E-Bikes! Whenever a company pulls out their first model it's usually a trial model to see what needs to be added, subtracted and improved. I personally believe this bike would do great in the city.
@tekolicious83104 жыл бұрын
agreed and I usually don't buy first gen stuff for that reason, but the price was too good. Prices are coming down, so there are more choices now. I would say if they make an XP 2 or Pro they should include suspension. and sell the XP classic for the same price as now. maybe add 200 for the suspension and let the customer decide if it is worth it.

Got my Lectric Bike on September 23, 2019. It came with no tube or seat. Notified Lectric Bike and they said they would send one. Then they requested pictures of the box so I sent some. It had a little damage and was missing one banding strap around box. Then on September 27, 2019 they requested a picture showing take the bike had no tube and seat so I sent one. Guess they figured I was not smart enough to tell it had no tube and seat. The bike is pretty useless without a tube and seat. They did not seem concerned about that. It is October 11, 2019 and still no tube and seat. This is Extremely Poor customer service in my opinion.
@tekolicious83105 жыл бұрын
Wow, I don't blame you for being upset, that is not right and I would return it. I did not have your experience but all I had was a bent rack and a flat tire, they sent me a new tire at no cost and said to just bend out the rack which I did. my biggest concerns are the battery and the motor, which seem strong right now, but only time will tell. You should have the option to return and buy a Rad Bike, the rad runner is like 300 more and no gears on the drivetrain but is cool looking, my fav is the green one, oh did you call or email, I have emailed both times and got fast responses?? . Good luck

All you need to know about the tires is - made in China. Like the rest of the bike. The issue with cheaper e-bikes is quality. A decent e-bike is 3 to 6K in price. Check out Sondors, he makes a pretty decent folder for under 2K, however, I'm told the company barely supports their products.
@carlhammill57744 жыл бұрын
That will all change relatively soon. We are still in early adopters phase. Once the market starts to scale you will see prices for decent e-bike stay under 2k. The biggest issue will remain safety as US roadways are not really considered friendly for bikers.

No they come with a pressure fitting at the end of the bar, the more you tighten the bigger it spreads out in the bar

Two flats on first trail ride... one thorn, the other, a stiff wire. Having a consistent thicker tread might help... I ordered two black xl cruiser tires from monster scooter parts.com, will see how those hold up. Will slime new inner tubes, just in case. Had handlebars replaced with some the sweep back with a 40mm rise, then used tubing cutter to customize perfect length. Replaced saddle, to use rail glides to bring seat forward... more upright seating for a 67 year old rider. Planning to carry co2 gas cartridge for inflation underway if needed. Next will see if I can retrofit my Ortlieb rollover panniers to fit. This bike can really climb some steep hills, albeit slowly. You gotta pedal too, in low, assist 3-5. It’s workable. Good luck,
@tekolicious83105 жыл бұрын
Nice, sounds like you have customize it a bit, me too, I changed the handlebars for some adjustable INNOGLOW 7/8" Motorcycle Handlebar amzn.to/2MpiERi from amazon. This allowed me to get the sweep and angle I wanted. I changed the pedals out also to mountain bike ones, slimed the tires and bought a portable inflation compressor, and I also added a better light to the bike, for night riding, I found that the brakes stretched a bit and had to readjust, I knew I was going to change stuff on the bike when I got it, the price point was so low some of the components were very basic. but the bike over all performs well.

I agree with the reviewer, the tires are condom thin... I added liners f&r after a rear flat. You'll love removing/reinstalling the rear wheel (not really). Had to retention the spokes after rear tire work and major crunching sound. Realigning the Derraleur is also recommended. Battery does not like cold weather with shorter operating times. The lights are crap.. I'm 240, 6-3, and the bike rocks. I'm looking for better tires for when the time comes. Bags are junk. Buy an extra batt., use a fan on the charger to cool it down. You can change the motor/pedal lag time in the menu.

Very nice Review! One of the best reviews IMHO that I've seen on youtube. I own an XP as well. I have made pretty much the exact same comments regarding the bike. Regarding the revolutions that it takes to engage the motor. I have P11 set to 1 and it is quite reactive and only needs 3/4 of a revolution to engage the motor when starting from a stand-still especially in a lower gear. However when cruising at say 10mph or so, it takes 4-5 revolutions for the motor to engage. I also agree, the higher the gear, the more crank revolutions it seems to take to engage the motor. Not a big deal, totally love the bike, it's a whole lot of fun, but something I have definitely noticed. I think all of us owners seem to agree that for the price point, it's an excellent deal!

altrock74 it’s worth what it costs. I have 2 rovers and it’s like comparing a caddy to a Chevy.
@tekolicious83105 жыл бұрын
@@vtam2066 True I stated that a Rad Rover is a better bike, IMO but it's also like saying you can buy a caddy with a better interior 50 more hp and a better paint job and it's gonna cost $80,000 or you can buy a chevy for $45,000 That is almost as nice. You would expect the caddy to be 2 x better. If you compare apples to apples the Rad Mini vs Lectric XP is RAD 750w vs XP 500W but the lectric can be changed in it's settings to go 28mph, so it's smaller motor goes faster??? ok RAD front suspension vs XP none, OK rad has it here, but most of the time you are going to lockout the front shocks to save peddle dipping or at least stiffen them, Seats on both seem good, they both fold, The Rad has a exposed battery vs XP enclosed, better security on the XP VS ease of removal goes to the RAD. Both get 25-50 miles on a charge but the RAD has more AMPS 10.6 VS 14aH So Rad is better here, Displays are a wash, Brakes are a wash. I think build and finish are Wins for RAD, Price is were the XP wins. I think if I had $1600 dollars to spend I would go with the RAD, if you have $1000 to spend than a XP is a good option. I really like the RAD Runner and if it were out when I was looking I would have gone there. but it's still $300 more and it has no suspension, no gears and no real display, but it looks cool and built like a tank. In the end we all win because Ebikes are only gonna get better. Yay US!

After riding for around 5-8 miles and then riding PAS 5 or high throttle my battery level indicator goes down significantly, then when I am not using the battery as much it "regains" some of the level that it lost. Are you finding this to be the same for you as well?
@tekolicious83105 жыл бұрын
Well, I see the meter go down, that being said I believe it has a visual indication that the current is using more amps and drawing on the battery. so you see drain and when you let up it restores. I would have preferred a second bar below for that.

it's measuring voltage, which drops in batteries under a heavy load, and will show recovery when reducing power demand. Not a defect, just the nature of battery power, same as voltage will show drop on your car battery when starting the car, then recover afterward. Welcome to a battery world...
