oh, i had no idea the people of eorzea prayed as well as the circle of knowing! that's good to know, though it leaves me with a question- why was no one tempered? not even louisoux who lead the thing? because the spell was incomplete? also, something you said about how no one noticed the rejoining bc of the calamity- wouldn't they essentially be the same? the calamities are so...calamitous because of that rush of aether from the rejoining, while the rejoining wouldn’t be able to take place without the spark that blows up into a calamity. so wouldn't the 7th rejoining be really no different from any other?

The main reason they need an event like The Battle of Carteneau is to weaken the barriers between the Source and the World they plan to rejoin, to allow the Aether of that rejoining to rush forth and complete said rejoining. S with the other rejoinings The Ascians would have caused a calamity of the same element and the rejoining would greatest escalate it. In the Sixths case they caused a water event and the rejoining escalated this into a flood that washed over Eorzea. But the Ascians have been very careful to ensure that everything looks like a natural event and not something being done on purpose.

@@WyrmLimion oh, so like, making the battle look like its just a natural outcome to events rather than being part of a greater scheme, yeah? like solus giving the go ahead on the meteor project while knowing what was inside

@@cogentsummoner3747 Exactly right, Solus was the one who gave Nael and the VIIth the go ahead even after the events in Bozja cause he and the Ascians knew the result would be a cataclysm that would meet their requirements.

Ah yes, essentially that time when Emet punched Venat really hard. Do we know which shard was rejoined for this one?

They rejoined the Seventh during the battle. It was an unaspected world not alligned to any one element but it was Astral in nature. Sadly thats as much as we know about this now gone world :(

there is one question that remains to be answered, which is why were the peoples memories wiped. the scholarch posits its unknown if it was accidental or deliberate

That is very true! They still don't know the specifics, but many attribute to it to the elemental imbalance that followed the calamity. This event led to some very sad storys of people that remained forgotten and never lived to see people remember them :(
