I mean, look at eugene's face throughout the video, you can see the real pain in his eyes as he's finding out all this important & new stuff/info from his dad in a friggen youtube video, but yet the dad never said any of this important info when he really shouldve (aka when eugene was growing up) ... & its sad & kinda messed up. he's only sweet & stuff now cus he has no responsibilities, but when he was supposed to be eugene's dad, he was obviously terrible & didnt give him much of the fathering he needed. And you can tell that he's done some real emotional damage to eugene & the kind of emotional/self-confidence that can not easily be fixed...

I think Zack or Keith also said they didn’t knew about things form between college and kids about their dad, it’s not that common. And with Eugene you can see form imitations that he seems to be usually too busy to talk to his dad too.

You know.. sometimes im jealous of that. Jealous of how 'abuse' both mental and physical wasnt a normal thing for them, how they can get so close to each other, how they're so comfortable with each other, sharing things, actually have family dinners. I'm just sick of mine, and they feel like nothing more but people who felt obligated to have a child, and thought that as long as i have the big three, food, shelter, and school, ill be fine. I'm really glad i found youtube and people who actually taught me things so i dont grow up to be an emotionally distant, potentially dangerous person.

i think people are forgetting Eugene and his dad are from a completely different culture. Just because we may see this relationship as odd and detached they may feel its normal. Plus Eugene's grandpa wasn't in the picture so it's hard to be a parent when you don't have one to imitate.

Not, really. Detached relationship within the family is not healthy at all. That's why Eugene is acting cold most of the time to the other Try Guys bec he's not used to it. South Korea currently hold the highest suicidal rate among teenagers due to pressure in school and lack of good relationship at home.

ok but what i think op means is that that's why it's good that we're actually seeing it? another whole reason why it can be unhealthy is because there is a very black and white standard of 'good, normal' family relationships and 'bad, abnormal' family relationships; it's hard to figure out how to break out of a certain standard when you don't get to see the different shades of familial relationships, bad /or/ good, and all you can do is compare yourself to the other 'more normal' (or 'more abnormal') relationships other people have. also, mind you, asian people had had to endure westerners making a big song and dance about how asian families are 'conservative' and 'strange' for AGES, when to us it's a perfectly normal way of living - again, that doesn't mean it's any less or more healthy, but it's really unhelpful when we become painted as 'the other' and that it somehow becomes a representation for asian culture for western people to use. it genuinely touches me to see people relating to eugene's relationship with his father - at the very least, it makes them feel a little less like 'the other', and that's already one step closer to developing as a person.
