So... as a psychology student, while I don’t have a career in the study of dating apps and facial beauty, I can say with nearly 100% confidence that most of the problems she pointed out with the pictures are invalid and unimportant to the overall goal. There were good points at the beginning, like facing the camera and showing the full face, but otherwise.... I think she was just looking for anything to dismiss.

Brendan Beckett if her evidence is in her reasoning presented to the guys, I feel comfortable disputing it. While there is certainly research concerning physical attractiveness and how clothing, posture, and photographs capture appeal, there are several moments when she criticizes the guys that hold little credibility pertaining to the research I’ve done. That’s not to say that I know better or that she is wrong- merely that some of her reasons appear to be based more on her attitude and personal opinions rather than data. That’s simply the way I’m perceiving what I see.

Yes, that example is empirical data. There are other instances where her argument did not contain such stated data, and while some of that credibility can still be inferred, towards the end there were comments she made that came across as less supported by physical data and more so stemming from her opinion. While her opinion is valid, I simply don't see how certain variables hold any real significance.

I imagine that Dr. Jess has seen all of these hate comments, and I understand that she is a doctor, but some of this stuff makes no sense. 1) Glasses. What the absolute heck is wrong with glasses? Not everyone has contacts. And if you don’t wear glasses in the photo, doesn’t that mean you’re lying? And what the heck did she mean by trust? Most of my family has glasses for Pete sake! 2) Information. I understand that it’s important to learn about someone before you go on a date with them, but most of these photos explain they try guys pretty well. And the thing with boxes? Really? Do you expect everyone on Tinder to be perfectly healthy and fit? 3) Use of judgement. I know that you are a professional, but could you not be so hard on these guys and give them advice that is actually helpful? I get seeing the persons face, but you are talking about these photos like they need to be taken by a professional photographer with perfect modeling. The main problem I had with Dr. Jess (a tinder sociologist? Didn't even know that was a thing) is that she basically put them down, focused on their profiles in a pessimistic light. That annoyed me so much. I'm glad The Try Guys didn't take it to heart (especially Keith and Ned, you go boys!) I'm kind of hoping they do another one with ANOTHER person that focuses on the good and bad of it instead of putting them on a high standard of "hey, if you're not a guy with a sexy bod and serious then screw off".
