Usually we let our videos speak for themselves, but seeing a lot of comments so I want to clear one thing up if you'll spare a moment to read. Our texting while driving habits were exaggerated for the sake of this video to demonstrate examples of real behaviors out there. I see people texting and driving every. single. day. and we wanted to make a video about the dangers. Using your phone while driving seems to be becoming apart of everyday life, and that is terrifying. We often lean into elements of our character/personality as a way to represent different types of people. In doing so, we also leaned into the edit to make our real life habits look as dangerous as possible to underscore our message. In hindsight, we now see how poorly we come off, especially me (Zach), and for that we apologize. It's a tricky line to make these videos both fun and serious, and at times we come off as callous and reckless during this one. My comment about using my phone the next day was not said to be apathetic, but rather to show that cell phone use is an ingrained and habitual behavior for so many people. I got to a red light, took out my phone, and thought "what the hell am I thinking?" I saw in that moment how using my phone isn't even a conscious activity sometimes, and I imagine for many people it's the same. You can know something is bad and still do it, and that scares me the most. It's not just my life on the line out there, and as someone who was in a nearly fatal car accident as a child I know this as well as anyone. I’ve been guilty of using my phone in my car. I imagine some of you have been too. You tell yourself you can do it safely, but you just can’t. That’s why we made this series - to show people that. I was in charge of this edit and was willing to make myself look bad to prove that point. It seems I should say on the record that the video portrays me as a far more egregious phone user than I really am. I regret how far the video pushes it and am sorry if I disappointed you. I promise our intentions were pure. So, ultimately I’m glad some of you are mad. I hope what you watched disgusts you and that you and your friends never do it. But for those upset that I haven’t learned my lesson, please know that is not the case. Thanks for watching this series and apologies for bogging this final episode down with a long-winded message. I hope you can still enjoy and learn from it. 💚 Zach (and the rest of the guys)

I agree. I used to be guilty of this until I hit a guardrail and fucked the entire side of my car up when I was 18 cos I was texting. I looked down for one second and wasn’t paying attention the curve in the road and smashed the side into the guardrail. Just from going only like 40mph and not even hitting it that hard, both doors were so messed up you couldn’t open them and the doors and mirror all had to be replaced. It scared the crap out of me that it doesn’t take that long of not paying attention and doesn’t take much speed or force to have a bad collision and cause a lot of damage. Thank god it was a guardrail and not another car. If I don’t wanna listen to music, I just play a podcast or a KZbin video that doesn’t require you to actually have to be seeing what’s going on and put my phone face down in my purse so not tempted to look at it.

Not that I think texting and driving is okay, but the longer you’ve been driving the more okay it feels. Obviously I don’t actually know how old you are, but this comment comes off like you may have started driving recently (like a year or less ago) so as you have more experience on the road that guilty feeling isn’t really there for a lot of people. You’re so used to driving that changing music is no big deal, you’ll text at a red light or check that notification, then maybe like the try guys it becomes a little more frequently than red lights. Addiction to any substance is hard to quit. Same with texting & driving. Most of us are glued to our phones & driving doesn't mean you quit your addiction. Eugene's attitude towards drunk &or buzzed driving is a good example of this
@dominadors47956 жыл бұрын
@@DaniJHollis I don't think we can count the "texting while driving" as an addiction. It's a bad habit, nothing more. I think labelling it as an addiction is kind of just an excuse. Coming from an addict XD love the Try Guys though....just can't relate ...
@DaniJHollis6 жыл бұрын
@@dominadors4795 Webster says the definition of "addicted" is when one devotes or surrenders (oneself) to something habitually or obsessively. I'd say that a bad habit can certainly become an addiction if it's not curbed properly but that addiction to a cell phone is for sure a real thing imo
@dominadors47956 жыл бұрын
@@DaniJHollis sure a bad habit can become an addiction...but remember....addiction is an illness, and needs to be treated as such. A bad habit has to become pretty extreme to become an addiction. That is why it is easy for a "habit" such as smoking to become an addiction because of the chemical changes that happen in your brain as a result. Sure, texting whilst driving makes you feel good, but using the word "addiction", an actual medical problem, to justify texting whilst driving seems rediculous. Addiction also means some kind of withdrawal. You dont GENERALLY get withdrawal from texting. If you treat EVERY bad habit like an addiction, then you reduce how accountable that person is for their own bad decisions. If you drive drunk because you are an addict, you need help. If you drive drunk because you just couldn't be arsed to sort out a lift? Then you are a prat. Same with texting and driving. Using a deliberately loose definition from a dictionary rather than a medical definition for a medical condition doesn't add weight to your argument, it weakens it. NOTE: this whole explanation doesnt apply to my people out there with compulsive disorders such as OCD etc, which could result in an addiction to texting whilst driving. I hope you have a great day x

This is very surprising to me especially the whole boredom aspect. I live for car rides with my music playing, it's possibly my favorite time of the day. I know most people have texted and driven at least once, but like Zach (who has a possibly deadly case of FOMO) reading articles? Scrolling through Instagram? Seriously? It's really appalling to hear, I didn't think people were actually this unsafe while driving. Side Note: The fact that they did this last is most accurate due to the fact that people are more likely to drive distracted on a route that is familiar to them.

I'm not going to suddenly get better either so this is for the rest of my forever. I miss out on my kids and my life because someone else couldn't miss out for a moment. Edit: not to mention titanium cages in my spine and a spinal cord stimulator implant and multiple surgeries and 500,000 in medical bills, I had to learn to walk, talk, and tie my shoes again. Many days I can't walk. 3 years of continual PT 3 days a week, and 6 more of random PT and bimonthly Dr appointments and hard core meds. GUYS. IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW. If you have an iPhone (I don't know about any other phone), there is an option within your settings to turn on Do Not Disturb While Driving. All calls, texts, and any notification will not reach you while you are moving in a vehicle. You will not be able to access past your phone's lock screen unless you consent that you are not driving.
@_edessa63576 жыл бұрын
My dad has that. Everytime my mom calls him and he is driving, the phone hangs up the calls and says something like “This person is currently driving, please call later.”
@pandalover57885 жыл бұрын
@grandeurlies Actually, once you pick the "Do Not Disturb While Driving" option, it automatically turns on when your phone detects that you're in a car and it's moving. This makes it convenient because you won't ever forget to turn it on and then off again since it's automatic - you can still get calls with ringtone after you stop driving. You won't miss important calls and texts just because you forgot to turn airplane mode off.

On the off chance anyone struggling read(s) this: If you're serious about having difficulty stopping even after the experiment, TOSS THE PHONE IN THE BACKSEAT over your shoulder where you can't physically reach it! I've done this with friends to help break the habit when they asked for help. This works better than remembering to turn it off or on silent because A) you don't have to mess with settings, B) muscle memory is stronger and sometimes faster to rely on, C) it's like quitting cold-turkey because you can't have the temptation to check your phone if you can't reach it, and D) It's easier to recognize when you're slipping if your hands are reaching for the seatbelt to get the phone. (If you're still trying after that, you've got a bigger addiction problem and might need real help. Therapy is a thing and it's not a bad or last-resort thing. It's there to assist, much like a check-up or a trainer at a gym. But for your brain.) *Edited: In light of Zach's comment, I removed his name. I don't want to contribute to the "Specifically Zach is dangerous" narrative when he has clearly explained the exaggerated nature of the video.

A girl I knew got killed in a car accident on the way to our volleyball tournament. Someone in another car was texting and driving and swerved into the other lane hitting her car head on. The person that was texting lived. Its not just about the fact that you are putting your own life at risk its abut that fact that you are risking the lives of OTHERS! Is sending a text or checking social media really worth having to live the rest of your life as a murderer?

I know you've proved the point, but I want to leave a message for the people that want to go through the comments and justify their actions. I use to know someone that boasted that they could text and drive like a pro. I say use to know, because we weren't friends, we just went to school together, and I say used to know, not because she is dead, but because she is no longer cognitively there. She responded to a text and crashed. Her friend in the car snapped her leg in two, her brother punctured a lung and almost died. She now lives in an aged care facility at the age of 28. She is alive and breathing, but she is no longer there. I am like Eugene, when I am driving, the phone is somewhere else. Those likes aren't worth it.

good on eugene for always putting his phone in his bag before he drives and not looking at it while driving!!! as for the other try guys... i'm disappointed. tsk tsk. i really hate it when people drive irresponsibly like that, whether it's drunk, high, or on your phone. i hate seeing people on social media recording themselves or doing lives while they're driving. it not only could hurt the person doing it but it could hurt others on the road. There are way too many people who lose their lives or are majorly and permanently hurt because of this and sometimes those people weren't even the ones driving distracted. i always get on my fiance for looking at his phone while he drives, it scares me. even when he's looking at the gps. i can't imagine losing him especially from something so stupid like him being distracted or someone else causing an accident with him. i'm surprised Ned does this at all considering he is a father. would he do that with wes in the car? i'm sure he doesn't, i hope he doesn't but even so, no one should put themselves or others at risk anyway. if it's that much of an addiction do what eugene does and put your phone away and silence it before you start driving! habits can be broken. and whatever calls and texts you get CAN WAIT.

@ashleycampbell12416 жыл бұрын
This was such a good series! I think it will resonate with people a lot more than traditional PSA videos, and I think a big part of that is how honest the try guys were here. A lot of people have very casual attitudes about distracted driving and driving under the influence, and I think a lot of people roll their eyes at the sort of dramatized PSA videos they show in a typical drivers Ed class or commercial because it's like "I've done those things and I was just fine." It's great that this videos showed that it's easy to overestimate how good of a driver you are. I think it's important that Zach says at the beginning that he honestly thinks this will be the easiest challenge, and then he messes up, because that's the attitude that most drivers seem to have.

@CatchBurning5 жыл бұрын
Nope, it makes complete sense to me. 😁 Me just babbling: Being in an airplane many kilometers in the air is almost over 30 times safer than standing ANYWHERE near a road! 😰 Why? Because in an airplane they take safety precautions, for the safety precautions, they acknowledge the dangers and act accordingly. 😁 Meanwhile on the road everyone has forgotten that getting into an accident with a car going 60 km an hour is like dropping said car from A Three-story building...😖 When that hits the ground, it goes SMASH! I haven’t double checked all these facts, so if you wanna know more then google stuff like ‘ how dangerous is the road’ I’m not saying you cannot trust me, but I’m a stranger and I can sometimes get a little over dramatic. This is why I love that Apple (idk if Android has it too) has the Do Not Disturb Driving Thing. It mutes all notifications and if you get a text it sends the person "I’m driving with Do Not Disturb While Driving turned on. I’ll see your message when I get where I’m going. (I’m not receiving notifications. If this is urgent, reply “urgent” to send a notification through with your original message.)" That's literally the entire text it sends. Its such a great feature and as soon as you start driving it turns on automatically. No calls, texts, or notifications. I can just relax and listen to my podcasts while im driving and not be distracted by my phone.

We have such a great view into your 4 wheelers, we see when you're bobbing your body because you're drunk, your head slowly dropping from fatigue, your paranoia when an LEO is within a mile behind you, and for pete sake put down the phone. I've never went a day over the road and didn't see some idiot texting and driving. Keith using voice command had the right idea but executed it poorly. Also ya'll earned my subscription, be safe because you all have someone who would be financially, emotionally, spiritually devastated if you died because of these (even if you don't hit anyone else)
