In the heights of Saïan, in Mongolia, resides a group of people who are dedicated to reindeer herding: the Tsaatan. Within this tribe is Bat, who owns a renowned and sacred specimen, whose protection protects his family from diseases.

The beautiful simplicity of this family and their lifestyle without all the chaos of modern city living makes me smile. You won’t find people This genuine in modern cities. A way of life we have forgotten and could learn much from. The hard work, the self reliance, respect for nature, and each other. I do t want to vacation to a beach or some crowded city. I want to go places like this, see these sights, smell the clean air, and meet people who are without the curse of the internet and modern human stupidity.

Remarkable documentary. Thanks for that. It brings to mind a question I have long pondered. I have lived in the far north along the Alaskan/Yukon border where we have this species, though we call them caribou. Seeing these people having lived and thrived with these same kind of animals for what my research has suggested may be tens of thousands of years, I wonder whether they could have at one time, or maybe sometime in the future, do the same with the caribou of North America. I can think of few other dreams that I'd rather have than to ride across the tundra and the taiga with these creatures and the people who herd them. Happy New Year and much cheer to all.
