The Tudor Conquest of Ireland - Kinbane Castle Northern Ireland

In 1542 the CROWN OF IRELAND ACT was passed making Henry and all of his descendants KING of Ireland. He began a policy of having the Irish chiefs give their lands to him and then he would give them back under a Royal Charter - they would keep their lands and have protection but there was a very heavy exchanges they would pay rent, they would have to change their title, and their entire way of life would have to become Anglicized this meant clothing, language, and feligion By the time Henry's son Edward VI the became king England decided to take serious measure to deal with the MacDonnell Clan-the most powerful caln on the Antrim Coast in the North of Ireland. In 1551 Sir James Croft was sent with a fleet of 4 ships to launch an attack on in MacDonell clan and most specifically Kinbane Castle. The English sieges of Kinbane Castle against the great Colla MacDonell fell in to legend. Underneath the castle a cave became known as "Lag Na Sassenach" or Hollow of the English.

Evelyn began her career in opera. She has performed with some of the opera industry’s leading conductors and singers including: Placido Domingo, Valery Gergiev, Kent Nagano, Eva Marton, Vladimir Chernov, Goesta Winburg, and others.
She has had the privilege of working with such famed directors as Oscar winner Maximilian Schell, Julie Taymor, Gian-Carlo Del Monaco, and Lotfi Mansuri during her tenure with Los Angeles Opera. Ms. Edwards made her professional singing debut at the age of 13, operatic debut at 19, and national television commercial debut at six months.
She holds a Bachelors and Masters degree from UCLA and a PSD from Mannes College of Music. She and her husband Chris love exploring the world and sharing their passion and love for history, castles and photography together.

I can’t tell you how much I love your channel. Not many people realize the history between the Catholic Highlands and Ireland and our centuries long struggle against the against the English. Especially since the plantations and Cromwell. Henry was definitely the start of the colonization of Ireland. I feel like this is a history that gets lost in both Irish and Scottish history.
