Guys, I had the Carl Bernstein article about Mockingbird saved in my bookmarks and just went to click on it. It’s gone, dead URL. I did another search and found it, the Rolling Stone article. I knew it as soon as you mentioned it. I’m starting to wonder if Woodward began to exploit Bernstein, manage him, and compromise him. The hospitalization sounds like a great way to handle him. It would have made Bernstein very resentful against Woodward and whoever he was working for, hence the retaliation with the exposé on CIA-Mockingbird. Mockingbird of course had been gloved by the Soviets out of the gate once they learned of it from within all their assets in Langley as it was hatched and assigned to Wisner. Looking at Woodward’s career, he seems to have always been involved in controversy after controversy where he misrepresented the facts each time, the most famous being the WMD story to get us distracted off in Iraq, as well as the whole shebang with Deep Throat and get-Nixon. Soviets hated Nixon for how he really turned on the heat in Vietnam, and how he weaponized China against them economically. Another interesting thing with all of this is that Bush Sr. was US Ambassador to China at the time. Bush family are huge sinophiles to this day. Listen to Neil Bush (the more discreet version of Hunter Biden for the Bush clan) talking about his friends in Hong Kong sometime.

My mother was in Carl’s Montgomery Blair high school class of 1962. She knew who he was but she didn’t really know him because the school’s enrollment was so big. There were 750 students in each class, 10-12 grade, over 2,200 students.

Peter Jay who had been a TV presenter (Weekend World) went to work for Robert Maxwell as his "Chief of Staff" although some media- notably Private Eye called him "Head of Paper Clips" and in truth nobody with any self-esteem would want to be near Maxwell who was a total ego maniac. Stories about his behaviour would fly around which detailed his embarrassing actions. One presumes, he paid well. For him to go from being a TV presenter to British ambassador to Washington raised eyebrows at the time. This job should have gone to a seasoned diplomat- not the son-in-law of the incumbent Prime Minister of the UK.

Grew up Jewish in the area (Montgomery County), a little later then Bernstein. The joke was the Jews who couldn't make it to Potomac lived in Silver Spring. The great TV writer/producer David Simon of The Wire fame also grew up in Silver Spring.

Great feature on Bernstein. As usual I learned a lot I didn't know. A very complex guy. Okay, I have a question and I don't know where to leave it - so since this is the most recent show, maybe you'll notice it here? I have for some time now suspected Saturday Night Live was intelligence connected. Since Mark has show business experience, who better to research this? I mean, I loved it back in the 1970s like everyone else. But now I'm older and wiser. No TV show stays on the air this long without somebody pulling big strings. Jezus - even Gunsmoke wasn't on this long - next year will be 50 years?? No matter how bad the show sucked in the 1990s, it stayed on the air. No matter the ratings. That's real power. I don't trust Lorne Michaels. If there's an "elite" in the TV industry, he's one. Okay - so what was the agenda you say? Where's the Wurlitzer? Well social programming to influence political beliefs in a particular age group, for one. They knew who their audience was. Also simply distraction from more serious political thinking - and maybe to make us give up and not vote at all? Maybe I'm wrong, but this show smells funny, and not in a good way. What do you think Mark? Can you do an episode soon?

Elinor "Cissy" Josephine Patterson owned the Washington Times-Herald. It was founded by her father, Robert Wilson Patterson. I think she was the first woman to run a major newspaper in Washington, D.C. She was divorced from a Polish Count, making her the Countess Gizyiki. Along with Alice Roosevelt Longworth, she was one of the Wild, Wicked women of Washington D.C. in the 1920's.
