I'm pretty sure putting that much loctite or anything on the bolt or in the threads iti changes torque if it's just good and clean and a dab of it idk I could be wrong
@Joshie22563 жыл бұрын
True. Lube changes the torque needed to achieve a given bolt stretch and load. If the hole isn't blind the excess just comes out. If the hole is blind the hydraulic pressure can break castings. :O
@jamescrapeticio27713 жыл бұрын
@@Joshie2256 luckily it’s not a blind hole, also excessive loctite could definitely have caused us to over torque on accident, thus the broken bolt.

@thebigmacd3 жыл бұрын
@@EZ-D-FIANT titanium bolts are much weaker than high tensile strength steel.
@EZ-D-FIANT3 жыл бұрын
As a rule yes but I've heard rolled threads (as used in aircraft) allow a stronger shear factor at the thread, depending on the way the bolt broke would dictate the next grade, I watched this in the background but saw thread damage not a snap I may be wrong and definitely agree a type 8 for example at the same size is stronger but the thread strength is a whole other thing (I'm no specalist it's just what I've picked up from smarter people them myself I'm open to being wrong)! Maybe some movement was to blame but that would usually snap not de-thread, it's an unusual and very lucky thing he experienced, my bet would be that it's a closed hole and he used too much lock which put excess pressure on the threads but like o said I vaguely watched this it was a first on my recommendation I love what I'm seeing and will watch more for sure but right now I'll admit I'm guessing as to the ins and outs of this exact install!
@thebigmacd3 жыл бұрын
@@EZ-D-FIANT you didn't watch the video closely. The end of the bolt snapped off, which was caused by the bolts backing out. Titanium would not fix either of these failures. Aerospace applications use titanium for two reasons: weight and corrosion. Strength is not one of them. Sure, rolled threads help but high strength steel is stronger, and inside a diesel engine weight and corrosion are not a problem.

Pulling a new chain through on the end of the old chain is a common way to do chain replacements on industrial machines. I've replaced the chains on a platen diecutter (40x28" tooling die, 250 ton cutting pressure, 7000 impressions / hour) a number of times, the only real difference is the ratcheting wrench to turn it over is about 5' long. Retiming these kind of machines is a nightmare, especially after a decade or two of grease and dust obscures any chances of seeing timing marks.

I thought I was lucky when I had the narrow Jam nut holding my nitrous nozzle on my Husaberg 570 Snowbike loosen off and fall vertically down onto the intake valve when I shut the bike off. When I went to start the bike next, it cranked over and then stopped. Upon pulling the head off, the narrow nut had compressed on the piston ever so slightly and there was ZERO piston, cylinder wall, valve and valve seat damage. Incredibly lucky! 62 psi.. but don't blow it up. Give it to me because I'd absolutely LOVE that car! Wanted one for ever with big power AND fuel economy 😎
