India's undemocratic partition - instigated by Jinnah, accepted by Gandhi and the Congress Party, and midwifed by the British - was a traumatic, epoch-making event that vivisected the world's oldest civilization. It opened wounds that have never healed. Its effects reverberate to this day, in the form of "the idea of Pakistan" and calls for "Jinnah wali azaadi" in India.
Partition did not solve anything. The nation was broken up, and India still finds itself in a state of undeclared war with Pakistan over seven decades later. What caused Partition? What forces impelled it? Who were the principal actors? The answer is surprisingly complex.
In this talk, Abhijit Chavda shows how a sequence of seemingly unrelated events set in motion centuries ago in Arabia, Central Asia, and Turkey, eventually culminated in India's partition and the unspeakable violence and atrocities that accompanied it.
About the Speaker: -
Abhijit Chavda is a theoretical physicist, technologist, and writer. His work in theoretical physics involves research on the topics of dark matter, dark energy, black hole physics, quantum gravity and physical cosmology. He has authored and co-authored several research papers on these topics. He has extensive experience in the field of information technology, having worked in diverse roles on numerous technologies and platforms.
He is also a writer and researcher of history and geopolitics. He writes articles for several publications including the Asian Age, the Deccan Chronicle, IndiaFacts, Indic Today, MyNation, OpIndia, and Swarajya. He has written several influential articles debunking the Aryan Invasion / Migration Theory on the basis of science and empirical evidence.
Abhijit is a member of the consultative group to the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India. He is also a public speaker, a KZbinr, an influential tweeter at @AbhijitChavda, a TV panelist on NewsX, Republic TV and Times Now, and a regular participant in literary fests such as the Jaipur Dialogues and the Pondy Lit Fest.

As an Indo-American I caught a lot of lies in our history textbooks during school. Even in college. Thanks to Google, they were easy to prove. It’s designed to churn out misinformed citizens so that the ones in power can continue to build empires without getting caught. A vast majority of world history is conveniently skipped. Same with media coverages. It’s thoroughly misguiding. Having a solid and wide ranged knowledge of history, economics, and geopolitics helps to discern the truth relatively easier compared to a vast majority of citizens. It’s important to understand the coverage of the same matter from external sources as well.

Edit: I made this comment when I was just 2 minutes into the video. I didn't know they were also going to talk about the dark side of Gandhi 🤪 ‐--------- @lzydwg May be. But that was not all the options left. We had Sardar Vallabhai Patel! Yes, the iron man. During the last Congress party leadership election before independence, he sweeped the entire nation in favor of him. But there was one soul supporting Nehru and requesting Patel to let Nehru become the first PM. That one leader outweighed the wish of the entire Indian subcontinent. If he had not been biased, Patel may have taken India in a different path. I'm never against Gandhiji. But there are many decisions like this that makes me unhappy.

If this be the case I can only apologise as a Turk. I can see that this strife between Pakistan and India was unnecessary. There should have been no partition. The role of the British was of course to divide and prevent a strong India . That's unarguable. I checked the role of Gandhi and again I can only praise one thing. He transcended Indian regionalism. He failed India in 1919 and after that was an obstacle. Willingly or unwilling he was a tool of separatists and the British. It's very sad. I hope for peace there.

Khilafat was a horrendous blunder, but the two nation theory was around much earlier, as articulated by Syed Ahmed Khan in a speech of 1888. He even had suggested that Muslims could not live under Hindu rule, but could easily conquer the Hindus. AIML itself was formed in 1906, although it demanded a nation state for Muslims only later. Now you should enunciate how Partition could have been avoided. It couldn't : Only a well planned and organized peaceful mutual exchange of populations could have been attempted, with a debatable degree of success .
@thrinethran2885
@thrinethran2885 4 жыл бұрын
@simba1 What I said was what SAK spoke. But definitely, after the British rule, they would have captured some of the current Pak territories, and a blood bath would have been unavoidable. Khan was referring to those regions. where the Muslims had superior strength: The fact is they had will and motivation for a war. So it had to be a peaceful separation or civil war. That was what Ambedkar recognized, when he recommended an exchange of populations. But what I stressed was, the idea of separation existed with Muslims decades before Khilafat even through armed conflict.

Dear Indians, I´m from Austria in Europe. This lecture was indeed very interesting. While we Austrians were unable to keep together our most important states after WW1, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was not only able to secure the Ottoman heartland, which is Anatolia and "little Asia" but also to keep it ethnically homogenous. Please don´t understand me wrong, but I think that Ghandi also wanted to keep India as homogenous and big as possible and he knew that the partition was inevitable as the English had planned it in secret. Austria was decimated to insignificance which fostered Hitler and the evil faschist regime. India is still vast and you have plenty of opportunities inside your giant country. Europe and the US are stagnating economically, China is a brutal dictatorship - so the future belongs to you. Once you become economically really successful, Pakistan and Bangladesh will beg you to rejoin. Just my opinion, please correct me if I´m wrong !

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on how you perceive the state of affairs in this context. Economics is just one part of the narrative. But that wasn't the main factor for separation of Pak and Bangladesh. The factors were fundamentally of religious exclusivity. No matter what you do, and how much ever you portray secular outlook, Islam will not let them remain even as equals. Domination and conversion to Islam by any means is a duty. A religion that doesn't accepted realities and lives in the past will not let anyone have independent thought.

If Sardar Patel had become India’s first Prime Minister, Nehru would have become its second - shortly after we became a republic. One of the simple facts we miss is that Sardar Patel was much older [by 14 years] and by 1947 was less in good health compared to Nehru. Patel died in 1950 - after living a good long 75 years. This is one likely reason why the Mahatma prevailed over Patel to give up the top post to Nehru. A young nation needed someone to take it further and in Nehru the Mahatma found someone who could take it much further than the other founding fathers. And Patel as the Home Minister got almost what he wanted. He was primarily focused on Hyderabad and Junagadh - two overwhelmingly Hindu majority regions within India whose rulers had an impractical desire to join Pakistan. Unlike Kashmir, these regions didn’t share borders with both the countries and entirely within India. Patel got the resources to fight for them and get them successfully integrated into India. With due respect to our Prime Minister Modi, Sardar Patel did not actively seek Kashmir [Sardar Patel’s Kashmir Dilemma]. It didn’t make that much sense to fight for a territory that was not a Hindu majority at a time the nation had bigger priorities. It was Nehru’s war and his idealistic notion that India should be a home to even regions that had a Muslim majority. Reference: Quora Facts checked by me on WikiPedia PS: #self_research_matters

@vaishnav m You are a contradiction. You can't 'like' muslims but 'hate' their scripture as that is what makes them a muslim. It's like me saying I like Hindus but hate Sikh theology. Can you see yourself divorced from the other? No. Islam HAS become militarised but only a section of it. Not all muslums are terrorists. Secondlt, you cannot say the Koran is to blame or is designed to create terrorists. If that is so then the Bible creates terrorists called the KKK and the Torah the Zionists. I'm sure you have your version of extremists too. When you insult Islam, you insult everyone who practices that religion. Also, why would you be afraid of something that happened in 1947? Do you genuinely believe Pakistan will raid India, or are you afraid your people will push and push until Pakistan does something and you go crying to the world? If you live in peace, nothing happens to you. If you breach borders, seek to persecute Muslims or make life hard for them in Pakistan then their country will retaliate. Yes, your people are pagans, but I don't care what you worship. Neither does Pakistan. Get alonf with each other and stop stirring shit up.

In the book *"Islam the story that must not be told" Ambedkar writes; The blood-curdling atrocities committed by the Moplahs/Muslims in Malabar, Kerala against the Hindus were indescribable.* As usual, Gandhi failed to produce any satisfactory response to Ambedkar's charges. The conduct of Gandhi during the Moplah riots, and his views on them once the carnage had subsided, remain a blot on Gandhi. Ambedkar was an apologist, he spared no one, not even Gandhi, who he blasted for giving into the selective bias. "He [Gandhi] has never called the Muslims to account even when they have been guilty of gross crimes against Hindus on several occasions." Again, these and many such double standards of Gandhi never form part of our history books.

A great lecture by a very smart speaker. The question at the end is very thought provoking and interesting. I'd like to answer it: Q. What if India had a leader like Ataturk in place of Gandhi? A. India would be a genuine secular republic (and not an apartheid state). The muslims, Christians and all those who submit to foreign cultures would be asked to leave Hindustan, or live in a Hindustan where only the indigenous culture would be promoted and protected. Q2. What If Turkey had a leader like Gandhi in place of Ataturk? A. All those who were not part of Turkish civilisation (the Greeks, Assyrians, Armenians etc) would be allowed to live in a pseudo-secular Turkish republic, where the native Turkish culture would be suppressed in order to appease the foreign ethnic groups. Any Turk who opposed this would be called communal.

Very good presentation. The story of the national traitor who indirectly or not so indirectly caused the massacre of many of his fellow countrymen finds example in a few countries. If you dig deeper in the personage's life you will find the root of his enmity. Ghandi, was the son of a successful merchant but someone should search his family line. To me he looks nothing like an Indian and totally like a Maghreb middle eastern. I bet his ancestors were muslims traders who settled in India. Maybe he knew something about his ancestry that we will never know. You don't betray people unless you believe you are not one of them.
@MrPoornakumar
@MrPoornakumar 8 ай бұрын
@goognamgoognw6637 Here is a response to your convoluted & preposterous thesis. Either you say that his parents or grandparents were once Muslims, is wrong (his name is Gan`dhi & not that spelling reeled out of your bloody mind). No Muslim (itinerant) trader remained in India & only the converted Hindus remained, as Muslims. Again you are wrong. You are used to seeing national leaders, suited, booted & what not. Even this Gan`dhi was like that when he studied law in London (have you heard of London like you heard of Damascus, Cairo or Medina) & was practicing Law in South Africa. After returning to India he was moved by the sight of a majority villagers (then India was a nation of villages; even now there are 600,000 of them) in abject poverty & he adapted their traditional, simple attire - to identify himself as one of them & to be one with them. He began appearing in that attire, with which he went to London as guest of the queen(you may not invite him to your home even). In 1947 when Gan`dhi lived, at least some 300 million Indians (Indian population then) looked "totally like a Maghreb middle eastern" of your description, with your knowledge of a mouse-brain. Does it mean that 300 million Maghreb middle eastern men lived in India then and none else? You can only "bet" as if it is your birth right with your limited exposure & ignorance of the wider world (your utterances reveal it amply, "I bet"). As per your other assumption, indirectly hinting that he (Gan`dhi) might by a bas tard (not born to devout Hindu parents but Maghreb middle easterner or at least his ancestors that is worse), you're totally wrong & I don't know about you (please confirm). He was not a MUSLIM TRADER but born as the son of a rich diwan(in a princely "state"), otherwise his family who don't even touch a Muslim, would not have sent him to London.
