This is not the version I was told growing up. The one I was told was of an elderly woman and her granddaughter and it took place on the island of Tutuila in the village of Vaitogi in American Samoa. Love the legend and I enjoyed the video.

My mom told me this (she is and from american samoa i think)and she said it was a grandma and granddaughter and the grandma was the shark and the granddaughter was the turtle and if u see a turtle and there is a shark behind it; it means that it is the grandma and the granddaughter my mom never saw it on her island but one day i hope i see it when i get to samoa (im half mexican and samoan)it makes me feel different and more like my mom im more connected to samoan culture.

This story has confirmed having three versions....so there is no need for you people arguing about the true one. The trueness of the story must be based on the strength of evidence provided to support the legend. Also, those people guessing what really happen in the story and suggesting what story is true, please do not, if you don't have any knowledge or cognition on our legends and myths then leave the legends as there are respective people called Tumua and Pule who is responsible for cherishing and treasuring these legends of Samoa, and they are the only ones having the full understanding of the true legend.Reading of Samoan books about Samoan legends is not enough to gain understanding, unless you take a journey and find the truth from respective villages owning these legends. Many thanks for the director of this short film. You have enormously compiled this story in a beautiful astounding way. Malo lava.Haters of this film, please, try to understand something and understand before entering a comment.CheersSamoa Auliuli

Obviously there will be various versions of the myth due to the lack of written information. However, every interpretation is in tattoos which is also broad. I love my culture and it's history

this story originates from Samoa and it's about grandmother and her grandchild, their journey starts in Samoa and ends in Tutuila, there is even a song that tells you about it.

The archetypical idea of the impossible love and the taboo of the transgression, leading to another life. Wonderful legend. I suggest the videos of "The legend of the Butterflies Lovers" (La leyenda de los Amantes Mariposa") and "The Impossible Calling" (La Llamada Imposible) hereby in youtube.

legends are just that so noone has the right to dispute this version..whether your grandmother's or anyone elses, it's all folklore and ultimately, the morale and/or plot remains the same. We all should give praise for someone artistic as the creator of this version and his relentless work in putting this together for our people and the our KZbin audiences a tadte of our culture. your negative comments only adds shame and ignorance on your behalf. Peace to all.
