I was raised in Vaitogi and my grandfather, grandmother and mother told me this story a million times. The story above is nice but fiction. The proof lies in Vaitogi. If we chant on the cliff where the grandmother and the granddaughter jumped off, you'll be able to see the turtle and the shark. They don't come up every time. But they'll come up if the tide is just right. I have seen them about 100 times. (That's when I was young and loved to entertain visitors that come to our village back then or we were just bored and found the tide was just right for them to come up) Ae seí faaseé mai la si teineiti i luga o le galu. Pe e te pese atu: "Seí e sino , seí e saá, ae seí oú matamata". . . . . . . .. Oh wow, the laumei will be dancing and entertaining the audience. But remember, never point a finger or the laumei will leave and won't show up again for you. I also think it won't show up if you (the person that pointed) comes back again. Good old Days. . . . . .Good Old Memories. . . . . . . . Ae malilie maia, o le loomatua Iliili, ae na feosofi i Vaitogi. O Vaitogi lava e faatagi ai le Laumei ma le Malie, ae le o Savaii.

Even going back to Savaii, the sharks and turtles are always playing around with each other. It's pretty cool.

finally the mother and daughter decided to leave the village and always be together, as they jumped off the cliff the daughter turned into a shark and the mother into a turtle, to this day only when the song is sung by the villagers of Vaitogi you can see the Shark and Turtle swimming below, take heed if you try to gather proof(camera/video) watch out behind you...

This story is about the shark and the turtle, but in other islands the turtle is the grandmother for this young girl who flee from her island with her grandmother which is a turtle from Kiribati to the Marshall islands..Also about the Shark.. They say it protecting all islands on the east side of the Marshall Islands..Tell me if this stories are all related??

No this story is twisted. Its a grandmother and her granddaughter. There is a song to this legend.

Amazing, but is there any Samoan flute like the one playing in the background? Sounds Native North American to me.

Hey ufa, that's not howit goes stupid. It's about a mother and her daughter A blind mother and her daughter were treated unfairly in their tribe,they were beaten,fed dirt and stone.When thedaughter tries to help her mother,the villagers attack her too.One day they had enough.The blind mother told to her daughter,let us jump off this cliff and end our suffering.So they did and the other a turtle and the daughter a shark.Legend says that if yoiu sing a song of this village you shall see them.Oh and try not to take pictures of them,my cousin did and you know what happen,this huge wave cameout of nowhere and tried to take her in the ocean.Luckily her foot got stuck in the lava rocks :)

Huh?!? Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't this a story of a grandmother and grand daughter? That's how my gramma told me the story.

renee skinner Hahahahah isn't that the story from kiribati?? The turtle and the daughter..The turtle took her grand daughter from her mom because she was abusing her grand daughter every time she swim in the ocean?.. This story is from kiribati all the way to the Marshall islands :D (Y)....

I'm confused. Some says, it's 'bout a grandmother & her granddaughter. Apparently, this video is about a women & her hubby. Confused!!!!!!
@soulmatesrreal12 жыл бұрын
i don't think you should change ancient stories like that, redo it with the authentic story its much richer, its a story of a blind mother who was treated with disrespect such as feeding her dirt and extreme cruelty by the villagers, her daughter was beaten many times trying to stop people from treating her mother with dishonor,
@imeldamuchlove13 жыл бұрын
It was definitely NOT A COUPLE. It was a beautiful video, but it's either a mother and her daughter/ grandmother and granddaughter. My mom's pretty upset, because it's her family's village and Chief Letuli is her uncle's title. It was a cool video, but now people who haven't grown up listening to this legend will think this is the true one.
