I went to the artist guitars store to try out the amp and when I turned it on and heard that clean channel, it’s sounded beautiful. Probably one of the best clean channels I’ve ever heard. And the overdrive sounded great for both blues and rock n roll like acdc. A ton of bite.

I had one of those Blues Jnrs for a while, and also have the Artist still. Both great compact amps, but the Artist sounds more full in tone and works better as a gigging amp. I put a Lorantz 75w greenback speaker in the Artist and it really opens it up. Nice review Shane.

Shane - I just bought a Tweedtone 20R, and a Cherry 58, partly due to your reviews of these. I am blown away. I have always had a Marshall (VS102R) and other non-hollow guitars. I always wanted a Valve setup and a semi-hollow to unlock that goodness... WOW would be an understatement. How they do this for anywhere near the price is incredible! (I also use a Sweet Cream pedal on the clean channel as slight boost. Man, it's so good! ) Thanks for the videos!

Thank you again for the video!! So either I am really deaf or the Artist is just superior and it can do distortion. Be that as it may, we all know here that a proper drive tone on a blues junior is with a tubescreamer that makes the overtones sing!!! Amazing!!

One of the great things about Shane’s videos (in addition to the tasteful playing and down to earth conversational style) is the quality of the production, which lets you hear what the gear really sounds like. I’ve seen other reviews of this amp that, while positive, has some production choices that obscured the true sound of the amp. After watching several other videos from Shane on this amp, this head to head comparison has totally sole me. Yes, I like the romance of the Fender name, but I’m not going to spend more to get less (as would be the case with the Blues Jr., or spend way more to get something that’s awesome but far less versatile for what I need (as would be the case with the Princeton or Deluxe reverbs). And I just can’t bring myself to spend $1000US on a Tone Master, at least not yet!

The blues jr sounded like what you described the artist as on clean(through my TVs surround system ). I don’t know if it was but could really hear that fat tone button engaged....the gritty tone also sounded more full in this case meaning more top end on the blues jr. ..the description you gave of pushed tones was spot on . And I loved the artist drive channel nice and beefy the blues jr got kinda glassy when trying to compete with that drive. Personally I loved both and when $ is in the equation I think I’d definite go with the artist and money as no issue I’d still be hard pressed to turn down the artist

For an all purpose gigging amp I'd take the Artist. Been using Tweed jnrs for a few years and they do a couple of things *very* well - but the limitations are quite stark in my experience, and in this comparison. The Artist could conceivably replace two of my amps. The Blues jnr and my old Strauss VC30. If the Artist had an Fx loop it'd be damn near perfect.

Being one who has used the deluxe model of this line a few times I think that if your thing is a clean sound (with or without pedals), then the fender rules. I've never liked the sound of the breakup on this whole line of Fender amps (with the exception of a cranked Pro Junior). For me overall, the Tweed Tone is a "no brainer" if you live where they're available. I especially liked the tone of it on your " behind the scenes" video when it was picked up from the room or camera mic. That gave what I believe is a good representation of how it sounded in the room. It's a little beast. I.M.H.O.

The Blues Junior sounded nice with the lead channel cranked towards the end. Maybe in a situation where it can be cranked it would rock (Jeff Beck kills using these). That would not be easy to do with the bigger models.

Have a Artist TC59 and the Tweedtone 20r. Upgraded the amp with a transformer at 2x the output of the stock one. HUGE difference in the clean and overdrive. Really have to ride the volume knob as just leaving the pots wide open is too hot. I run the 59 almost exclusively on single as the Bullbucker pups are a little too bassy for my taste. Nitpicking aside for the money there's really nothing close. The weight of the TC59 is ridiculous, so I'm going to have a tech rout out about 1.5 kgs to make it bearable. But it sounds just the way a tele/tweed combo should sound. A solid 9 of 10.

Your not wrong cuz. This amp is a sexy beast. Blown away. A lot of people say there's no difference now stop between modern SS amplifiers and valve amplifiers. Of course there are plenty of modern solid-state amplifiers that sound fine. But I disagree. My playing just sounds so much , better. Through a valve amplifier. So inspirational. Thank you for your sage advice. Also an amazing warranty. Simply could not believe it made your top 10 list. Of amplifiers of all-time. Just having playing it once. I agree with you. My Dearnonds, just come to life. Beautiful with a 335. I played it for my brother. And he said that sounds just like The Black Keys. It can sound a bit bass heavy, but that's no problem. Just adjust your settings. lol. And I absolutely love the fact. That the speaker has a plug. Easy to plug it into a twin or a cab if you want to. I must admit, I miss my valve Crate VC 50. The last one's made in St Louis. Sadly a friend of mine dropped it. Sometimes I use effects pedals. But I really do understand now why some people say. No just a good valve amplifier. The circuits would be quite similar with Class AB push pull 6BQ5s in the o/p, and 12AX7s in the preamp/drivers. The Fender may have better quality power and output transformers which are always important in tube circuits. The Tweed look is just that.

Let make things clear now. All of these "technologies" are now 60 years old and more. If any brands is a little bit motivated to create a quality amp at reasonable price it is feasible. Innovation is no more a cost. So no reason to be snob regarding other brands. This is something I think fender start to understand with their tone master series and upgrading their "entry" level: classic vibe and Mexican Strat. They have to push forward as anyone can now do something similar to what was done in the... 60s... Customers win in such battle at the end. ;p

The Artist Tweed is wiping the floor with the Blues Junior, I'd say...

Sounds nearly identical clean but Seems like the tweedtone has more headroom and less flubbyness in the overdrive

Man , you guys must play loud. We just can't get away with it here in the Chicago area. I can see why you like the Tweed tone though. It's probably more like my supersonic 22, which I absolutely love. And you said that the That Blues jr. was $1000 . They are a lot cheaper here and about $400 on the used market. I like that Tweed tone too but they are not that easily available in the States.

Blues jr sounded great. The Artist is a great rung of a ladder on the journey to a better amp-

Both great amps. The Blues Junior just seems more dynamic and touch sensitive. The Artist is great, but a little compressed in comparison.

After watching this the first time I went to music store to hear the Blues Jr, somehow I wasnt that impressed, bought an Artist and I love it, I reckon maybe the Artist sounds more like a 20w version of a Fender Blues Deluxe or Hot Rod Deluxe than the Blues Jr. While the 70/80 sounds great in the Artist I put a Vintage 30 in it, now sounds great, have a Creamback that I wanna try in there as well.

Was thinking that a Vintage 30 in it would add the "upper harmonic content" Shane said was missing.

The articulation of the Fender clean was a little better than the Artist. But the Artist held its own.

I always thought Blues Jrs sound loud and biting. Probably what you want in a band. Actually, sounded just fine in your mix, but I like the softer fuller sounds to amuse myself around the house.

Difficult to compete with the Artist for overall value and flexibility. For the money buy a used Blues J and a new Tweedtone. Thanks for the comparison Shane. 👍🇦🇺

Shane great Video!! Both sound good- each have their nuances - Tweed tone has little bit of edge to my ears- Also- could you share where you got those posters on your wall? Love those too!! Thanks for this Video!!!

Great vid but these style of reviews always have me wondering when they are about guitar gear. Be interesting to see if the comments section changed in a blind study where it was Amp 1 vs Amp 2 lol. Whether it's guitars, amps or other gear it seems a lot of the time people's opinions are clouded by the name on the gear. A great vid I saw was comparing acoustics in a blind test - D-28 Clarence White Martin vs RD 328 Recording King and the results surprised a few once the result video was posted.

I have the jr., so I knew instantly which was which without looking, it just sounds more like a Fender. Both sound good though. It reminds me of the difference between my Fender and Carvin v16. The Fender delivers the sound I hear in my head, but I enjoy playing the Carvin more. I'm still trying to figure that out!

Blues junior for me and not because I favour the look. Just like the sound for some reason and as some have said in the past; it's great with a tube screamer /pedal platform.

It's not even a comparison. The Artist is superior in every way. It's actually a spectacular amp at any cost with great customer service. Unfortunately many like to see Fender written on the amp, which is fine and I get that but if you want the better amp, the Artist has it.

I’d have to side with the Artist TweedTone on this review. More transparent and fuller sounding. Don’t like the Fender at all with pedals. Too boxy and fizzy sounding to me.The ArtistTweed Tone sounded much better with overdrive.

Here is a crazy question, if I put a Greenback in this would I get even remotely close to the Marshall 1974X sound (18w mini Blues Breaker), sort has similar specs.

The fender sounded like it had more mid-range... Would it cut a mix (in a busy band environment) better as a result Shane?
