Dema refers to an ancient burial process most commonly known as the tower of silence. If you read the text at 3:27 , it says that "the bishops instituted vialism as a mandate." So when Twenty One Pilots renounced vialism, they effectively regained control over their voices from Dema and became free to write/sing about Dema. i want to propose the theory that this whole thing goes back to car radio. i know i know it’s not likely but hear me out. in the video for levitate tyler shaves his head as he does in car radio. this may have something to do with the fact that this is some rebellion from the dema and i think when tyler talks about someone stealing his car radio it’s a metaphor for someone stealing his joy and expression. music is often used as a form of expression and his is gone, stolen by someone (dema) and now he sits in silence, or is forced into silence with his thoughts and demons thinking about how “we’re all battling fear” quote car radio. battling fear is the equivalent to fighting demon, or what dema represents, our fears and insecurities. if i missed something please let me know. edit: in nico and the niners you can hear a sound that sounds REALLY similar to the beginning of ode to sleep so this could potentially go back to vessel itself. In songs like Run and Go you hear him say how he’s killed a man, blurryface or at least what the bishops represent, and in Fake You Out he says, “our brains are sick but that’s ok” sick being a mental illness. I think vessel might take place in the future after tyler has escaped dema and is experiencing almost a ptsd state where he doesn’t know what he is or what to do without dema because it’s all he’s ever known. I just realized that the last note of leave the city is the same as the note at the end of truce.

before i get comments about it. YES, i know there's a new clancy letter. i wrote this before that, so chill! what do i think it means? well i think it shows that clancy might not specifically be tyler in this storyline. however, i do think tyler is some sort of nameless character anyways, someone we can all step into the shoes of. it's a heroes journey at the end of the day. so who is clancy? well i hope to elaborate more in a follow up video once we get some more music from the boys, but as of right now i'm seeing everything about this world being metaphors. i think everything about this universe is representing an internal struggle of someone fighting mental illness. being pulled back into DEMA is being pulled back into a darker state of your mind, rebelling into the banditos is where hope lies, the trench itself being a metaphor for the struggle of escaping your anxiesties, as we see one of the embodiments of these anxieties actually catch up to the character tyler is portraying and draw him back towards dema. CLANCY seems to possibly be a metaphor or a representation for a more rational side to the mind of our lead character, the rational mind wants to help and support you but sometimes it will just watch from afar, unable to offer that support you may need internally. i think the turn of events in the story will be clancy learning to come to terms with the past and how bad dema truly was and try to get tyler, or our hero character, out of the trench and with the banditos, where hope lies.

Lea Jones Nicolaism was a Christian heresy, and the number 9 spiritually means judgement. Personally I think it represents a different side to Trench, as the Bishops are part of the "heresy" of Tyler's beliefs, which is to stay alive. They're coming to judge him for doing what is right for those who choose to join him. Also, in contrast to "trench" (think "deep", there are so many refrences to being "high" (levitate, the "niners" as in being in "cloud nine", Tyler's jumpsuit taking him "so high"). And how Trench is in the East (which he says is "up"). In Japanese, the name Nikko means "daylight", and the Sun rises in the East. The number 9 also sounds similar to Japanese for "death", which is why they consider it bad luck. There are also references to sunflowers. Which is probably why they chose the color yellow. "The sun will rise, and we will try again". I believe this is Tyler's / Clancy's way of fighting for "staying alive".

In the song “Doubt” on blurry face one of the verses go: “Gnawing on the bishops Claw away at the system” No idea what the second line means but the first line might be a reference to the 9 bishops. “Repeating simple phrases Someone holy insisted” Dunno really what this means but maybe it’s like propoganda inside dema. “Want the mark he's made on my skin To mean something to me again” This seems like a strong reference to the black mark on Tyler’s neck during the blurry face era. Let me add something: The red/yellow is a reference to a movie called "the village", or so it seems like, at least The people in the village are terrified to go outside it during the night because there are there "monsters". The monsters are actually the elders, dressed in red. The one colour the villagers used to scare away the monsters, was obviously yellow. I think it fits well, as it is someone from the inside holding them captured, not from the outside, as well as we see in the video that Nico, at least, is very old. It's also obvious that the yellow rose petals makes the bishop and his horse scared and uncomfortable.

I think the colors has more to do with how scientists has linked colors to be involved with peoples favorite music. Like this is feeling yellow is hope, optimism etc. And Red is something negative. So prisoners of Denma use yellow, because the "monsters" can't see it or it does something to them. My theory on the petals and yellow and all that is not that nico/dema is scared of the color yellow but that it was all a bigger metaphor, Tyler was getting pulled backed into his anxiety and then the rebellion showed up showering him with these petals- or their reassurance and affections, yellow is seen as a happy color and so it would make sense that a rebellion against dema would use it, they are fighting for happiness and freedom, something Tyler is trying to find in spite of his insecurities

I have another theory to add to your heathens one. Tyler says “all my friends are heathens”. The definition of a heathen is “an unconverted member of a people or nation who does not acknowledge the God of the Bible”. What if Tyler and his “friends” are heathens to vialism (the religion created by the nine bishops of dema). In the first few lines of nico and the niners is reversed. It is josh saying “We are banditos, You will leave Dema and head true east, We renounce Vialism”. Josh is possibly the leader of the banditos. The first of the banditos to pop out are his friends/family. So what I’m saying is that the banditos are the heathens Tyler is referring to

I know you know about the perspective of Clancy as a 3rd person watching all this... so I won't bother with that... But just... Rewatch the video and tell me the first scene of Tyler lying in the riverbed looking up and around isn't the actual ending. Because the actual beginning of the video (putting on the jacket, walking away from the car, heading to trench) is at the end... so it makes the beginning of the video gives us a little flashforward. He walks through the trench, sees the banditos, the bishop catches up, the petals create a diversion so Tyler can grab a flower, he makes a break, and then we see him in the river faking his death... and that's where he wakes up at the beginning of the MV. Lying in the river, looking around as if he's expecting to see people in the cliffs. Guys, Tyler actually does quite a bit of acting that gives us these clues...

I think "Bishops hate yellow" 10:19 is not the answer... but those yellow petals mean a change. As used in cinema, yellow means: wisdom, knowledge, relaxation, "joy, happiness, optimism, idealism, imagination, hope, sunshine," dishonesty, cowardice, betrayal, jealousy, covetousness, deceit, illness, hazard. Sunshine could also be related to "East is Up", where sun rises. Makes me think more of a color that mean an optimistic change for the band which is leading to happiness and "killing their own DEMA's". Maybe you're right but it don't see it that way, I think he had the rebel's clothes in his trunk the whole time because in HDS he already escaped Dema and Blurryface is probably trying to bring him back, that's why he's taking control of Tyler's car. But Josh is here with his drums and his yellow hair so the car breaks and catches fire and that's when we see Tyler at the beggining and end of Jumpsuit, he takes his rebel clothes out of the trunk and starts walking in Trench and then gets chased and caught by Blurryface. What if I put it like this: in HDS tyler presents every signal of being detained by in an iron-fist ruled facility/company/whatever (shaved hair, dark and unified bland clothing) so by that logic when the car breaks it means he got out of DEMA after he got caught by blurryface in Jumpsuit right (we could also assume that the non-HDS scenes in jumpsuit are flashbacks based on how they edited them)? So then, he grabs his old rebel clothes at the end of Jumpsuit and sets out to gather with the rebelion. That's how I see it anyways

I think Josh kind of represents some sort of guardian angel figure for Tyler. He's never fully present in the videos as Tyler is but is always watching over Tyler or is a sort of motivator to make his escape. I know you mentioned him as a best friend figure in the video, but I think when Josh is the only one stood on the cliffs looking downwards when the rest have left that it shows he's got a greater investment in Tyler. I'm not entirely sure if what I've said is any sense, but this whole universe that they are creating relies a lot on metaphors (especially tied to religious imagery) so I can only make suggestions as everyone else does. Amazing video though! It was really good to see all the theories put together in one place and edited so well. Plus I hadn't heard about the bishop name link to the blurryface songs before. Really hope you'll make another of these videos when more is revealed!
