What shocked you the most about what went on behind the scenes?
@pja546Ай бұрын
What shocked, saddened and angered me is the way that Judy Garland was treated. She did not deserve that ill treatment.
@VincentScalesАй бұрын
Judy Garland was reportedly put on a diet consisting of cigarettes, chicken soup, and coffee during filming in a further attempt to minimize her curves. This may be erroneous, as historians Jay Scarfone and William Stillman clarify that at the time Garland was an anti-smoker and was allowed solid food. However, her diet was accompanied by swimming and hiking outings, plus games of tennis and badminton with her stunt double Bobbie Koshay.

Considering some of the things that happened behind the scenes, it's amazing they even completed the movie.

Wow, I always loved The Wizard of Oz, but I had no idea there was so much darkness behind the scenes!

The fact that the producers called Judy a fat little pig, meanwhile many of those old time execs looked nothing but like fat farm pigs in suits😭😭

In case you didn't know this, there's a sequel with Fairuza Balk called "Return To Oz". It was cool, I liked it. Highly recommend. 👌

There’s a little known film that perpetuated the rumors of the partying Munchkins. A fictional film called Under the Rainbow, starring Chevy Chase.

It's not terribly surprising that Garland made less money than the veteran actors she was surrounded by.

If there was a political satire, it was William McKinley, and later called, the Ohio Gang, whom Frank Baum was calling con men. Baum wrote The Wonderful Wizard of OZ in 1898 after the McKinley-Bryan election of 1896. P.S. In the original work, witches wore white (business), and Munckins wore blue (workers). This was removed from the 1939 film. P.S.S Alao, removed for the film, was an understanding of the poppy field curse. The Wicked Witch of the West had her own (wage) slaves. These people are referred to, in the book, as the "Winkies." I'll leave you to figure out the connection between poppies and the winkies, and why it was called a curse.

I dated a gal who went out there in the 90s and did some minor work for a couple years. It sounded terrible. We dated in the late 2000s, in the post-Weinstein world I now wish I'd have pressed her for more details. Though she didn't like talking about it.
