Everyone says bb will get 3 fruits because the symbolism but right now with 2 fruits he has 3 souls inside him. He has his original soul the spirit of the darkness fruit and the spirit of the earthquake fruit and well as they say, you me and the devil makes three. That said I've always been curious that if a devil fruit can become awakened and living spirits can use haki can a devil fruit spirit use haki? Its said that the former users become part of the fruit so if a fruit routinely gets eaten by strong willed people would it develop a strong enough will to use haki... maybe the Nika Nika used future sight, the voice of all things and kings haki to manipulate the events that would lead to it being eaten by the best option.

Yeah, which is a very interesting point. Kaido is a jaded man who was once quite like Luffy and earned his way to the top but lost his way. When Luffy yells at him about the honourable samurai, Kaido mocks it and says it doesn't matter if they're honourable, their culture is weaker for it and so the winner needs no epithet. Aaaaaaaaaaaaand right after that, CP0 killsteals Kaido's glory. INSTANT karma, exposing Kaido's true face. The winner needs no epithet, the narration itself says the winner is Kaido. And yet he is empty inside because of it. Luffy coming back was the best thing Kaido could've hoped for. And that, in combination with this video, is what makes me think Kaido is a top 3 villain in One Piece.

A lot of people think he's a bad villain because his backstory wasn't explored very well, but seeing how Kaido went from being like Luffy to saying honor doesn't matter and feeling empty anytime he wins is great writing.

Blackbeard and his crew are always noted to be the most dangerous pirates and a threat despite how often they actively struggle and sometimes even get their teeth kicked in just for the fact they actually act like dirty pirates. It's not like the other Yonko whose pillar of strength was enough of a sell to their portrayal. BB is scary because he will do whatever it takes to win a true opportunist.

Do the BB pirates really struggle tho? They take Ws everywhere they go. Oda always shows them getting hit, taking damage etc but then we fast forward and they win the fight. So far they destroyed the WB remnants, took out Law, Garp, and went into whole cake and kidnapped Pudding. 1 of their ships is going to Egghead and I would bet money they're somehow taking a W there too.

One does whatever it takes to get the advantage while the other does whatever it takes to end the suffering of islands they happen to come upon, most of the time. Big Mom herself said this when she 1-shot Page One, that even in the cruel world of pirates there is a code of honour. Big Mom is not below assassinations, hostages, blackmail and all that, but even she has a twisted sense of doing things the right way. When she blackmailed Jinbe into playing her game to earn his freedom, even that had a "logic" to it, at least. But a conqueror would never abandon that kingly pride for a cheap win. Katakuri acknowledged Luffy because of this; "no one would've laughed at you if you fled, because I'm the one who you were up against", to which Luffy simply ignored and kept fighting. That's what a conqueror is.

I think the Straw hats vs the Blackbeard pirates isn't going to be a bunch of 1v1s like we're used to. It's going to be crew vs crew, everyone at once. The BB pirates are going to try to pull their usual tricks and gang up on the Straw hats, so the Straw hats will have to stick together to win. Luffy vs Blackbeard would still be a 1v1 most likely, but the rest of the crews would fight all at once.

I always figured that they were looking to rig the match-ups somehow to make the WORST 1v1s imaginable. It's not going to be Van Auger vs. Usopp and Doc Q vs. Chopper as fans seem to think, no, it's going to be something completely out of the Straw Hats' comfort zone and that they should not be able to handle at all. But because they're the crew of the Pirate King, they find a way to handle it anyway. Your idea's good too, though. Really I just want Nami and Usopp and Chopper to fight more.

I agree with this a lot. I’ve been thinking lately how only a few of the BB pirates matchup well with the SH 1v1 wise. So I’d actually prefer if it went this route just so long as the Luffy and Blackbeard fight can have the most focus.

Blackbeard is very deliberate. Shanks tells Whitebeard about his scar "I didn't let my guard down" he tried telling him he's been planning his moments very carefully & to call back Ace cuz he's too young & trusting to win. He said he's going to make his move soon & when he does he's "going for the top" even warns him he'll come after you. Everybody underestimated Teach but Shanks.

To go even deeper into the point, the original Romance Dawn pilot had pirates divided into two types: Peace Mains and Morganeers (adventurers and pillagers, respectively), so they are very much translated into One Piece without using an actual title.

Yeah but this dont apply here. Adventurers is ones like Luffy or Shanks, "good pirates" while morganeers is everyone else. Kaidou and Big Mom are morganeers that steal others, slave people and commit every type of crime, but they are still kings that fight with honor.

Honestly one of your much better well thought out vids Morj! I came into it thinking I'd disagree but you're right - and i do think it was all intentional by Oda. I think Zoros quote when Kuma appeared says a lot "The world is designed so that when it rains trouble, it pours, It's not like somebody's gonna save you if you start babbling excuses". The strong don't need to make excuses about unfair vs fair battles, they fight to win regardless. Whitebeard is a really good example- he never pissed or angry he had to be ganged up on - or the fact the navy used squard against him , or any other underhanded tactics. Despite all that, whitebeard still went forward regardless.

Also, to further the idea that being evil and being a schemer aren't the same: there are two Emperors now who were Warlords before and are of the cheater type: Blackbeard and Buggy. The presentation of both matters a lot: Blackbeard will do whatever he needs to win, meanwhile Buggy has fallen upwards because he has nothing to lose. Good stuff.

If you use this as context, it really makes you wonder about Oda having Mihawk join the Crocodile side of things. Scheming, plotting, taking a carefully laid out route to sneak up to where they want to be, instead of using strength of will. It even got to the point where he had Buggy call out the pair for their cowardice. If Oda’s conscious of this portrayal, that means he’s intentionally having Mihawk step in the other camp, even temporarily.

Not glorifying cheating is probably because it’s a Shonen Magazine, but Oda being a master, made it a major theme of the story. It also makes it easier to be a battle manga, because we don’t have unfair things that ruin the battles

What a GREAT reflection,in my humble opinion. To sum up: if you cheat, it's because you NEED to cheat :) It also has to be with being honorable too, of course, because Luffy wasn't always this strong, yet he ALWAYS preferred to play fair. That's why we support even not so strong characters who play fair against unfairness and why we love LUFFY. Because, yes, this is a story about pirates, but it's also a SHOUNEN (a pretty idealistic one for that matter). I'm just not sure about Law. He said he wanted to eliminate Doffy via Kaido, but his real plan was to actually use the mugis to FIGHT Doffy. To *fight* him, even thinking that he was gonna probably die. Then, he decided to stay with Luffy because he was the one who "got him in trouble" against Doffy. And even if he is a rational character and that's the biggest difference between him and Luffy why he isn't the MC, I can imagine Law wanting to surpass others rightfully, at least in some form of pride as we could say in their little competition between Luffy, Kind and himself. He is a D too, so he could get Haoshoku later (?). But I agree that his... ambiguous (?) state as king/cheater makes his fight against KH, the false king and the false D., all the more interesting...

I can see the Red Hair Pirate's being a final test of wills for the Straw Hats as the Red Hair Pirates Almost all going to have greater mastery over their respective fields than everyone on the Straw Hats. RH Pirates are the last *fair* pirate crew for the SH before BB and his goons fighting unfairly and the WG who's just a whole different beast.

I love this video and it’s concept, but sometimes great pirates cheat a little bit. When Luffy is fighting Katakuri, he cheats by taking Brulee with him out of the mirror world so he can have a chance to recover haki. If he didn’t do this, he would’ve have lost the fight most likely and I think his face as soon as he sees Brulee says everything. Then in the very first chapter, when Lucky Roo shoots the mountain bandit, Shanks says something along the lines of, “We’re pirates, who said we’d fight fair?” Again great video and concept but I don’t think it’s as cut and dry as you make it seem.

Doflamingo is a special case though. He was adopted by a bunch of scum, BECAUSE of his conquerors haki, when he was just a kid. Doflamingo's story is very much about how 2 people who came from the same place, him and Rocinante, can become different depending on how they are raised.

Perfect example: Kid and Law. Yes, both of them were fighting Big Mom. But Kid was the ONLY one between the two who was trying to go toe to toe with Big Mom. While Law was using support tactics and sneak attacks. Kid has Haki of the Supreme king, although he hasn't mastered it, he has that spirit. Law does not

Why did you omit DoFlamingo from your video? He has conqueror's haki, but he's a schemer, also cheated by making a doppelganger with his DF, he used Bellamy to put Luffy in an unfair situation rather than just fight him himself, went hunting after Luffy while he was in a weakened state, he stood down to Aokiji, went out of his way to literally lie to the whole world about his Shichibukai status so he could gain the upper hand on the SHs, and he's too afraid of Kaido and BM to move up the ranks. He is a perfect counterargument to your main point.

Bro morj, you cracked the code on why certain characters have conq haki (disposition of king), because they truly look at the seas and battles from the disposition of a king. From chapter 1, every villain luffy has come across has some deficit of character that ends up being their downfall. Luffy doesn't have conq haki because it's inherited, but rather earned it through his code of honor. Sure, the monkey family is strong, but they all earn their stripes through their actions. The whole "pirate" term doesn't apply to the emperors, an emperor is a king lol. WG discounts everything with pirates being bad. Honor is really important, as I think its why koby is on the projection he's been on with Garp declaring him "future of the marines" and even him in Marineford. I also think Garp and Kuzan have been communicating via combat, as the flashback to them punching the boats together yet not being able to communicate with words effectively is telling. As well as the "!!!" triple exclamation on the kuzan ice glove/garp impact. Garp says justice will prevail after getting hit.

Buggy is an interesting case, cuz just like Usopp he understands what makes a true king, so you can tell cheating all the time causes him great suffering. He knows self-worth is important, but can't stop himself from picking the easy way. The main difference between him and Usopp is that while Buggy achieved amazing fame, he KNOWS he's a fraud and that leaves a bitter taste in his mouth that stops him from fully enjoying his adventures. Usopp never failed his tests because he knows picking the Buggy route would left him empty inside. He wants to live the real deal, not another lie.

I have a theory, and I thought this be a good place to put it. What if Laugh Tale is a moving island, just like Zou, even being on a type of animal specifically a giant turtle or whale. Now while this is more of a speculative idea I’ll admit it, but let me lay it out. For starters from what I remembered Laugh Tale wasn’t discovered until after Roger finished his finally voyage, and that the log pose wouldn’t work properly and all of that, perhaps that’s because the island itself was moving, and the reason it couldn’t be found like a normal island is not only is it hidden underwater, but that the island isn’t always in the spot where the poneglyphs direct, and instead the act as an “X” for where the island will surface. As for why I think it’s on an animal is because Zou exists and is sporadic as well, but is easier to track thanks to being above water, and moves thanks to being on an animal, though the question then becomes what kind of animal, well for one it has to be giant (obviously) but also long lived so I think it could either be on the back of a giant turtle which surfaces every couple decades in the same spot (and I believe Zou could be a hint to this if I read it really REALLY speculatively thanks to the world turtle idea and elephants also being associated with that) or inside of a giant whale like Laboon that could either need to be coerced into revealing the island (possibly by shutting out of its blowhole and then swallowing it again). Obviously this is highly speculative and I’m not the greatest at the detail work since I likely have missed details, but thought this could be a fun topic for people to look at and come up with there own ideas or fixes to this one. Thanks to whoever reads this and comes up with something.

He never cared about that as far as we know, and he even told Bellamy that being a pirate was just a means to an end for him. His goal is completely different from the rest. If you want the closest comparison to him, it's Sengoku. Another schemer who is not a pirate and has Conqueror Haki.

My take here is that he doesn't have it and he's also going to "steal" it. You already have the scenario set up: they have captured Garp and Moria. If infusing someone else's shadow grants you their ability, as shown in thriller bark, then it could be theoretically possible to infuse Teach with CoC by infusing him with Garp's shadow.

I wonder how Luffy's agreement with Bege's assassination attempt on Big Mom fits with this one. I always had a feeling that Luffy going along with it was somewhat out of character for him, but brushed that aside since, as Luffy himself has said, there's no such thing as fighting dirty in a battle between pirates, but when you look it from the way this video puts it, it does strike me like a deviation from Luffy's modus operandi throughout the series.

I have no idea why people are trying to use Doflamingo as a counter argument. Doflamingo is not like BlackBeard. Doflamingo does things the pirate way because he's good at it and enjoys it. Blackbeard does it because he needs to lol. If Doffy didn't have Sugar and her devil fruit, he would have taken over Dressrosa another way. He's a literal conqueror. Doflamingo has a spine. I don't know why but I have to comment this somewhere. Rocks was propably the original user of the storm storm fruit(feeting for a D) After the event of Godvalley regardless if he died normally or else(Brook and potentially Big mom) His fruit was taken by Roger thus making the next candinate for the most dangerous person. I was discussing with a friend about Shanks and while its true that he seems like the rightfull will inheritor to Gold Roger something off. Garp and many other has stated that Roger was no saint. So my take is that Shanks has taken his sword style symbilizing his vigor and honour. But the one who holds the fruit inherits the essense that Roger was about . The monster ridding the wave of change. In his execution one character doesn't fit in other than Smoker who got inspired to become a Marine. Dragon. In the recents chapters it was confirmed (lets hope it wasnt a mistranslation) that he is indeed the son of Garp (training flashback with Kuzan) .So far all the top tier of the Rev.Army are shown familiar enougj with Devil Fruit. From Kuma and Invakov to the others Leader and then Sabo. What if the only reason Dragon came at Roger execution was in order to grab his power as soon as the Pirate King died. Like he had an apple or a watermelon right under his cloak and the moment Roger passed he instantly ate thus gaining the power of the Storm which is what spark right after the execution concluded.The most dangerous man , the most wanted man. The fruit he posses. That trick may sound like something Teach would do. But in reality its more akin to Cipher Pol. You only need knowledge of the Devil fruit encyclopedia and be on the right spot at the right time. Sakazuki was straight up about to take on the entirety of the Whitebeard Pirates himself, so I think he has the disposition of a conqueror, although it’s a bit more gray than the pirates.
