I carry a 45 for one reason….. familiarity. I have nothing against 9mm but I grew up shooting 45’s. Perks of having family members who served in WWII, Korea and Viet Nam. Less capacity, but great weight for control and like you said, consistent recoil. No mater what you carry, please carry.

Was literally just about to type the same thing, first pistol I shot, cleaned, took apart and re assembled. Over 30 years it is just comfortable to me and as a larger man (seriously I have a hard time fitting a CC anything in my hand comfortably) it just fits and in an open carry no permit needed to CC state I do not have to worry about "lumps" as anybody trained can tell a solid 25-30% of folks pack full sized here. P.S. yes they make bigger grips etc. but I always have that tick in my brain going "When it this going to catch my hand?"

I carry .45 because Sig stopped making the P229 in .357SIG. Going to the P229 in 9mm was an option, but I decided to give the FNX45 a try. With fifteen plus one 160gr projectiles travelling about 1255fps/550ftlbs with about 10,000psi less pressure, it seems like a reasonable replacement for my beloved P229(.357SIG). If Sig makes factory .357SIG P229s again, I'll go back, as long as ammunition is available, but til then, the FNX45 is proving to be acceptable. No more ".45 is too low capacity." argument. Yes, I guess it would be nice if FN made a 20rnd mag for it, to pack carry, buy for EDC, the 15rnd mags are good.

An acquaintance of mine is an ER nurse. He said he sees 9mm and 38 spl wounds frequently (and they are nasty). But he never sees .357 and .45 wounds because they do not make it to the ER. Real life, not gel blocks, not ballistic tables. Just experience.

Wellllll, I was a flight nurse that flew in a helicopter to get these GSWs. We really do not know what caliber round that was fired. The only time I ever appreciated a difference was a guy that got shot in the back at point blank with a 12g shotgun slug, it blew his backbone through his stomach. He was obviously dead by the time we got there. I have seen a 22LR round kill people. The only reason I know the caliber there was because it was an accidental shooting that killed a 12 yo girl. :(

In my LEO career ,I've seen people shot with all of the common pistol calibers and have carried several. One took a 45 fmj in the hollow between his shoulder and neck. Bullet passed thru his torso and exited upon striking the opposite hip. He was on his feet when I arrived and he survived. I've seen people take multiple 9mm and live or die. I've seen a 380 stuck in a man's forehead. I've seen a 40 sw used twice. Both one shots, both drt. Yet to see anyone shot with a 357 still standing. Same for a 44mag, 41mag. Modern bullets have brought lackluster performance up dramatically, but the same bullet technology has improved bullets across the board. Buy good ammunition, carry what you can be precise with and practice(a lot)!

I know of an Oklahoma City police officer who was shot 5 times in the head with his own .38 special revolver and survived. I don't know if it's a testament to the inferiority of the .38 special cartridge or to the hardness of the officers head.

I'm a .45 guy, because when I started carrying over 30 years ago, it had the 2nd best one shot stop ratio of any handgun round, 1st was .357, and it remained that way for MANY years. Maybe I'm old fashioned or whatever, but I was in the Army when I started carrying, and when the Army switched to 9mm in the mind 80's, problems arose, same went for the FBI etc. But by all means, carry what you know and are comfortable with, I will do the same.

Wounding requires more medical care than killing, which is why it's not a negative to wound an enemy as opposed to killing them. It loads up the medics, stretcher bearers, medevac personnel and transports, aid stations, field hospitals, all sorts of things.

I own 9mm, .357, .40 and .45. My preference has always been towards .45. The reason for this preference is drawn from personal experience growing up in Texas and during my time in the Army while deployed to Iraq. When I was 12 my friend and I went into a 7-11 to get a drink in Houston. As we walked in we saw a man standing at the counter and a clerk standing opposed to him. Thinking nothing of it we went to the back and began picking out a drink and some snacks. Thats when my friend noticed in the anti-theft mirror in the back of the store that the guy at the counter was holding a gun on the clerk. As we were trying to decide what to do a man exited the bathroom in a prison guards uniform and shot the offender in the shoulder with a .45. The shot completely severed the offenders arm that had been holding his gun. It was the incredibly surreal. In talking to the guard later he said he had just finished a shift at the Huntsville prison and was on his way home when he stopped in to use the bathroom. When he walked out of the bathroom he noticed the situation at the counter and aimed to shoot the offender in the chest, however, also noticing the guard the offender moved and the shot hit him in the shoulder severing his arm. He said it was a one in a million shot but that .45s tend to floor people with one shot. That image has stuck with me to this day. In 2003 when I was deployed to Iraq, I was on tower guard when an insurgent attack began against a convoy that had just left my base. The attack was beyond visible site without the aid of optics, which we didn't have. What we did have was binoculars. Through them I witnessed an engagement between a Soldier and an insurgent. While chasing the insurgent into a field of high grass the Soldier had run out of ammo and was forced to reload. The insurgent surprised him by attacking him with a butstroke to the chest knocking the Soldier down. The Soldier then reached for his Beretta 9mm and shot a full magazine into the insurgents chest area. Given the blood splatter from each hit I counted 11 hits. The insurgent managed to not only get back on his feet but also managed to reload his AK-47 while the Soldier was searching for his spare 9mm magazines. The Soldier was only saved when his battle buddy appeared and shot the insurgent in the head with his M4. I fully recognize these are atypical events for these two calibers and that different variety of bullets and advances in ammunition over the years have made the 9mm a more viable round. However, for my own safety based off the events I witnessed, I trust my life to a .45. I carried one when I was a deputy and I carry one today for personal concealed carry.

Being a smaller guy, 9mm fits me much better for EDC. I use my Kimber 45acp for my home defense nightstand gun.

Colion love you bringing back the skits. I carry .45 because it's what I am best trained on. My wife carries .45 for the predictable and manageable recoil. She hated her 9mm for the recoil. Not all .45 carriers are nut cases, but many are. I'm proficient from 6 feet to 75 yards with .45, so it's what I carry. I'm sure if I had had access to 9mm when I was learning and had become as proficient with it as I am with .45 I would carry 9mm for the cost savings, but I'm not and never have been able to get as comfortable with it, so I choose to carry what I am most proficient and comfortable with. It's better to have a fat and slow round I am comfortable and proficient with them carrying something I'm not. It's just not smart to carry a firearm you are not proficient or comfortable with. Simple as that.

My experience with 45 ACP is certainly less than that of 9mm, but there is no way to classify the 45 ACP as having "manageable recoil" unless you're shooting very weak target loads. I have the same pistol in both 45 and 9mm, and there is no doubt the 9mm is a pea shooter compared. Both pistols weigh within 1 oz of each other. One thing I discovered about 9mm, is they tend to be snappy in the 115-124 grain bullet weight, especially with micro-carry pistols. In the 135-147 grain, the snappiness turns into the push the 45 ACP is known for. Either way, the 9mm was way more manageable than the 45. The 230 gr 45 ACP by Ammo Inc was extremely snappy. Perhaps it was just that ammo.

I've run heavy self-defense loads in hollow point and frangiable in both calibers and always found the .45 ACP to be far more manageable for both my wife and I. To the point where my wife caused a cease fire when the RSO realized she had cut the bullseye out of her target and he decided he wanted to get it for her. She had never been able to do that with 9mm. She placed one round dead center and then proceeded to work in a circle from the bottom up, and she successfully cut the bullseye out. I was never more proud and scared of that woman in my shooting life, lol. For me, since I have hundreds of thousands of rounds with .45ACP I will always find the recoil more manageable. For her she found that the recoil in her compact .45ACP was more manageable than in her full size 9mm she also preferred the accuracy that came along with that. Additionally I also won't switch platforms because it is what I know and have known since I was a kid. Growing up in the country, nobody I knew had 9mm. We all shot .45ACP in pistol, .357 Magnum and .45 Long Colt in revolvers, 30.06 and 30-30 in rifle because it's what we had available, so I am most familiar and comfortable with those rounds and their associated traditional platforms. My wife never shot until we became a couple, and I got her a 9mm per her request, when we got married she shot 9mm for three years before trying my gun and she liked it better. Mind you she probably only had 8 or 9 thousand rounds of 9mm before changing to .45ACP she now has nearly 100k rounds on .45 and about 30k rounds on 9mm and still prefers .45 she will not even try 9mm platforms anymore which is why she has such a disparity in rounds. She jokes about wanting to try .50AE or .500 Magnum, but considering she can't lift the firearms, I know she never will. When she bought her own firearm of her choosing, because she made me sell the 9mm, she bought a Colt Defender and was never happier. She still competes with my gun as she doesn't like the compact aside from EDC. She does train with it as much as she does mine but from an accuracy standpoint she prefers a full size firearm for competition, mind you we are not pros and when one shows up we really don't even come close from a speed standpoint but that's ok with us.

It feels wrong to carry anything other than a 1911 chambered in .45. Now I really regret not standing up for my principles and what I know to be true, and having switched from my 1911 to .40 S&W for EDC and every day when I strap on the .40, I think of and miss my 1911 locked away in the safe. I know better but was weak. Now I am questioning my own manhood for not carrying my 1911 just like Colion and other 9mm shooters are doing when they make videos like these.

I grew up around muscle cars.(63 to 73) The sound and feel of high performance when you turn that key. That's what a 45acp round does for me. As opposed to a Toyota engine or such. The sound and recoil vibration surging through me with One shot, is like sitting in a 69 Dodge Charger with high performance exhaust. It's a feeling you need. A feeling of SATISFACTION.

I switch between carrying a 9 and a 45. The 9 is for when I want to conceal in regular clothes without printing too much and the 45 is for those times when I wear a coat or jacket. I’m fairly proficient with both calibers, so there’s a level of familiarity with it too. Both are great in my opinion.

I myself also skip over 40 S&W. It just never caught on for me. I skip straight to 45ACP or even 10mm if I want something more than a 9mm. That's for an auto though. For a revolver where only two legged goblins are on the menu, I go either 38SPL +P or 357Mag. For woods carry it's either 357Mag, 44Mag, or 45Colt. If for whatever reason I feel those aren't enough gun, it's straight to a rifle or shotgun then.

When I lived in STL, there was a major difference in .45acp victims vs 9mm victims. The 9mm victims had a chance of making it the hospital, the .45 acp ones were almost always sent to the morgue.

I live in a prison town. I have a lot of prison guard friends. They tell stories about how many inmates talk about being shot by 9mms, often multiple times, yet they are alive and doing time. Very few of those inmates tell stories about being shot by a .45.

A 1911 saved my life in RVN when my M-16 went click! I know it works because it did. I’d have to learn that with a 9. That said, my pocket back up is either a Keltec P11 or a Ruger .357 Mag revolver. I also carry .45 Colt Ruger with bear loads in the tall and uncut. When playing “you bet your life” for score I recommend using something you KNOW works. I’ve carried a 1911 in .45 for 52 years. I’m alive; others are not.

I own both 9mm and 45 acp firearms. My reason for carrying the 45 acp can be summed up by reminding you about the ammo shortage of a couple of years back. In my area, defense ammunition was hard to find, ball ammunition, on the other hand, was relatively plentiful. If I'm going to be restricted to ball ammo, then I would prefer the .45 acp. That isn't to say I don't carry a 9mm. My P35 is a gem and it's not going anywhere.

I served in the Navy and had to be proficient with the M1911. I have a Colt MK-IV, Series 80, Gov't Model and I use hand loads at military +P specs (1,000 fps vs 800 fps). Unlike the 9 mm, the .45 ACP round creates a 4.5 inch temporary wound channel and massive shock to internal organs due to cavitation and physical shock waves; the permanent wound channel is about 0.5 inch. The 9 mm may be faster than the slower and more massive .45 ACP, though a 9 mm will more likely go through where the .45 ACP will cause much more trauma. If I were to ever get another handgun, I might opt for a Desert Eagle .50 (Why? I live in Alaska, go figure.) The Colt M1911 .45 was developed specifically due to the Philippine Insurrection. The US military did switch to a 9 mm for a time, though eventually had to switch back to a larger round.

It's been many years since I qualified on a military firing range but I will never forget this. The Marines ran the pistol range where I was stationed. They would always ask if anyone in the group was either Shore Patrol, Master At Arms, or MP. If anyone identified as such they would take them off in their own little group but not out of earshot of the rest of us. Then they would tell them if they ever had to fire their weapon (1911 45) that it would knock down a 300 pound gorilla strung out on crack. Dad was in the Navy. From 1946 to 1971 he had to stay qualified with a 1911 or 1911A1. When he was 80 I lent him one of my Taurus 1911s. First round was in the 9 ring. Next 8 were all in the 10 ring. I gave him my Springfield 1911A1 as it had bit me. Years later I let my BIL ( ex-USAF ) fire it. And it bit him too. What did I carry on my last trip, same old 1911A1 as I can conceal one well. But I'd rather have my Sig C3 version. Slabsides work! Reason dad carried in the Navy, in 1953 there were still Japanese shooting at Navy personnel on Guam. When he went to his last ship, he was the Master at Arms. Other times was due to security in the group. ( Naval Security Group ). Someone there had a 1911 within reach while on duty inside the building even stateside. Marines taught dad how to operate construction equipment, and then destroy it. USAF taught dad how to defend a base ( or ship ).

I compared and contrasted at least a dozen guns using internet research. Ultimately, I went with a 1911 firstly because of the two safeties: the beaver tail safety and the regular safety on the side. Secondly it was the aesthetics. The ammo didn't go into my decision at all. I'm getting a 9 mm next for variety and comparison.

My first pistol experience was my grandpa’s ACE .22 converted 1911 when I was 8. So it was a natural progression. But I own 9mm, 10mm, .40 and .45. I carry my .45 Commander as my CCW most of the time because I have 10x the practice with a 1911 than any of my other guns.

Some of us who use .45acp are just ridiculously comfortable with it. When a man who survived yhe bombing of Pearl Harbor, and then fought his way across the Pacific, came home and started a family (all daughters), and had a 30 year career as a state trooper, chose to teach his only grandson to shoot a pistol, using the 1911 he'd carried for over 30 years, his grandson learned to become insanely comfortable with it. The 1911 isn't the "best" gun I could carry (I have carried others), but it IS the gun I have spent more time with than any other firearm I own. I first fired it in 1989, when I was only 7y/o (grandpa helped, mom was pissed). My grandfather left me his 1911 when he passed only 9 years later. By then, I was certainly "proficient" with it. By the time I could "legally" own it (you do the math), I'd put more rounds through that gun than my grandfather had over the previous 60 years, and had to replace the barrel. I decided instead to retire my grandfather's 1911, and adopted a Glock...like everyone else. I never really liked it. I've tried lots of "modern" firearms (I REALLY like my Ruger 57), but I always go back to my Auto Ordnance 1911. No frills. The only noticeable difference between my grandfather's 1911 and my Auto Ordnance 1911 is the finish. One last thing about 1911 users- If we ever jam, or run out of ammo, we can most certainly bludgeon someone to death with our steel bricks. 😏👍

My first handgun was a .45 and it was mostly because I was in CA and as a magazine restricted state, the advantage of a doublestack 9mm were artifically hampered. I figured since I was restricted to 10, I might as well get the most effective round I could comfortably shoot with that in mind. In actual practice, the snappiness of 9mm +P was actually less comfortable to me than the slower push of the .45 in the same in practice and I was stuck with the same size magazines and capacity, albeit a little heavier since rounds of ammunition are heavier than those spacer blocks. That ruger p97 is still with me today and is the most reliable auto that I've ever owned. I had a friend of mine that went to the range with me that kept getting failures to extract and terrible accuracy. I watched him fire and rack the thing after every shot and it confused the heck out of me as I'd never had a problem with it before, not even remotely with some of the most terrible ammo around. I took it back from him and checked it, saw nothing wrong, popped the mag and found that he had loaded it with .40sw. The magazine feed lips still held them, the gun actually chambered them and the extractor held the rims in position with enough gusto to actually have the firing pin trigger each one reliably. The fact that it was hotdog down a train tunnel made it so there wasn't enough force to fully cycle the slide, but it went bang every time he racked a new round into the chamber. Blew my mind. Love the ruger P series guns. Wish I still had my p89.

I didn't break my streak until I finally bought a .357 snub-nose which I think I bought primarily due to romantic notions. In any event, my EDC/home defense pistols are .45ACP, and I'm fine with this, despite capacity limitations. I don't plan on having to fight a John Wick-style battle anytime soon. :D

@@beware3586 True that's why with the smaller diameter, faster rounds you want a fast expanding hollow point or soft point. Some .223/5.56 bullets are not considered to be a good choice for self defense by some people because they expand too fast and too much dumping all their energy right away and don't have enough penetration. Both heavy and slow and light and fast can both be good choices but the best choice really depends on the situation and platform of firearm.

That slow heavy bullet is going to create a devastating wound cavity because they usually dump most of their energy within 16-22 inches. Whereas those fast rounds don't always start cavitation until 15 inches in when looking at gel blocks. Don't get me wrong I wouldn't volunteer to get shot by anything and all bullets are lethal. I would rather do the damage with the least amount of effort.

I've shot gophers, and rats running from burn piles with both my .357SIG and .45. I believe, anyone serious about carrying for self defense, who trains properly, would not have an issue with missing. I know, I know, "...but police are trained and they miss more than they hit most of the time." Well, do most police actually train, or do they just qualify regularly? There's a difference. Shooting qualification courses of fire, do not necessarily improve performance. Shooting receding dot drills, improves performance. People get hyped about shooting a thousand rounds in a weekend class, but truth be told, you can improve performance and accuracy shooting a couple of hundred rounds doing receding dot drills, in about an hour. If you stay consistent, shooting about 100-200rnds a week, receding dot drills, you'll improve, no matter what you shoot. Before ammo got scarce and expensive, I was doing 200rnds a week, and shrunk my 15yrd group with my P229(.357SIG) down from about 8" to 4"(with the double action first shot). I imagine, under stress, I would likely shoot a 10" group, at the same distance, but I always assumed when I was shooting an 8" group, that under stress, I would likely shoot a 20" group at 15yrds, and miss a moving target. When I qualify off duty officers for their off duty carry, I compare my performance with the ones shooting 9mm and I, most of the time, have better shot placement with my .357SIG, .45, or department .40. Like I say, shooting qualification courses of fire, won't improve performance. It will make you more comfortable with that course of fire, which can, improve people's performance that specific course, who get nervous with performance anxiety, but to get better, you need to do receding dot drills.

I carry a 45 because of a study done at the behest of the war department(now department of defense) asking what is the smallest hand gun round that will kill a cow. 45acp was it so the order was put out to hun makers to design a hand gun for the military. You have to have the mass to carry the projectile in deep in a straight line. 9mm doesn't have that and it's narrower diameter in combination tend to cause it to curve in the target. That wastes energy and reduces penetration

@@chadkimmel8957 Because there is an implicit assumption among modern gun owners, partially driven by market forces, that 9mm is “just as good” as 45, and carrying a 45 implies that you think 9mm is inferior compared to 45 on a shot per shot basis, which is mostly true. You are invalidating their personal choice, and some people have a lot of ego invested in this. Carrying a 45, especially a single stack 1911, is akin to blasphemy against the modern notion of plastic 9’s, shot placement and kydex holsters. How could we be so ignorant as to think that only 8 rounds of 45 is good enough? I used a 1911 in the military and switched to a .357m for civilian carry for years but ultimately have settled into a 9mm and 38+p for my regular carry now. All have reasonably similar one stop results, though .357m is the best in the several studies I have read. I'll load .357m when camping in bear country now but that's seldom these days.

I've heard all these too. They are still hilarious to hear. None of them are the reason why I carry a .45. I carry the 45 with the Sim-X ammo. Still not a stopping power. For me it is a comfort since I have been shooting 45's since I was a kid. I will agree it is a big and heavy gun for a EDC. I still do it. I guess I do get some kind of kick out of it when I did have to pull mine in self defense a couple years ago. The guy dropped his two tone 9mm sub compact with the smallest tac light I have ever seen because he realized he could fit his pinky finger in my barrel. My wife has carried both 9mm and 45. I have no problem with either of them. I found the 40 to be way too snappy. It is a good mix between the 9mm and 45 though.

I just handloaded 700 rds. of .45 hardball ammo. For my two 1911 .45s. 1,000 rds. of .357 semi-wadcutter ammo. For my two eight-shot .357 revolvers. .45ACP has almost exactly 60% larger wound channel size over 9mm when looking at FMJ vs. FMJ. Hollow points vary, with some as high as 79% larger and some in the mid to high 50’s, so to make things easier, I’ll say .45ACP JHPs are 50% larger than 9mm. That means 2 .45s does equivalent tissue damage and causes equivalent bleed to 3 9mms. That means my double stack 1911 with a 15+1 capacity of .45 is, in fact, higher capacity than a typical 17+1 9mm since 16/2=8 while 18/3=6. Or in other words, my 1911 has the equivalent capacity of 23+1 (since 8*3=24) in a flush fit magazine, which would be quite an extended magazine for 9mm. And my extended mag has a capacity of 18+1. Even ignoring the chambered round, it’s equivalent to 27 rounds of 9mm (18/2=9 and 9*3=27). That’s a really extended magazine while my .45ACP mag is around the length of a 21 round 9mm magazine. So looking at everything holistically, .45ACP is higher capacity than 9mm when it comes to relative damage output. Same goes for follow up shots since the difference in recoil for 9mm isn’t enough to override having to fire an additional round, and the number of extra rounds increase the more overall shots are fired. The difference between 2 and 3 rounds is only 1. But if I fire 4 .45s, I would need to fire 6 9mms to equal it, making the difference 2. 6 .45s would need 9 9mms, making the difference now 3. 8 .45s would need 12 9mms, making the difference now 4. Etc. Ergo, .45ACP is also faster relatively speaking as well. Mathematically, .45ACP is superior to 9mm. It’s just that 9mm is adequate for the job while being cheaper and more logistically available hence why it is used more. And ironically it’s only that way because it’s very old, older than even .45ACP and therefore had a long time to proliferate.

@Blippitybloppitybloop Yeah but those don’t penetrate to the 12”-18” of penetration in ballistic gel to be suitable for field use. And you can mag dump .45ACP accurately too, just slightly slower due to the added recoil. However, the recoil is not enough to override having to fire more rounds of 9mm to achieve the same result, making it much slower in actual damage. None of this is theoretical, it’s objectively measurable.

@@gameragodzilla you comparing peas to apples there. The 22LR isn't designed for the same purpose as the 5.56. The 9mm and 45 are designed for the same purpose. The energy difference isn't as drastic as the 22 and 5.56 either. A better comparison would be the 308 and 7.62x51 but even then, rifle rounds aren't the same as handgun rounds. Furthermore, unless you're the best shot in the entire world, you're going to miss. That's the purpose of having higher capacity. The person with more bullets, wins. Lastly, name a spot on the human body where a 45 will kill someone but a 9mm won't. It doesn't exist.

I comically exaggerated it to prove the point because for small minds, sometimes you have to overdo it to make people understand the overall message. And misses don’t change the dynamic. If I miss 50% of my shots, to land 2 .45s, I need to fire 4 rounds. To land 3 9mms, I need to fire 6 rounds. The proportions are the same since once I’m done, I don’t need to land any more hits. So for a 15+1 .45ACP, 4 rounds is 25% of my capacity. While for a 17+1 9mm, 6 rounds is 33% of my capacity. The .45ACP is still higher capacity even with misses. You would know if you understood math. lol And it’s not a matter of whether something can kill. Anything can kill. It’s about how much you can kill and how quickly, hence why I compared relative capacity and speed. Simply put, .45ACP mathematically has a higher capacity and faster speed since the extra wound size you get with .45 far exceeds the extra capacity and reduced recoil of 9mm. Hence the math.

Been shot with a 9mm, I'm glad it wasn't a .45 or I wouldn't be here, so yeah there's THAT. Any gun you are accurate and proficient with should be your EDC, no matter the caliber,...

I spent 40 years of my life working in the operating rooms of various hospitals, military and civilian. I spend 8.5 years of that in a 'trauma one' category hospital- I have no clue how many bullet wounds I saw, but I can tell you this- the number of .45 ACP wounds I saw? Four. Just four. The rest either were DOA or died in the ER. We don't do post-mortems in the OR. I qualified 'expert' with the 1911 in 1977 at Ft. Benning Georgia. I saw no reason to change horses.

I have a 45ACP in my nightstand, not because I compared ballistics, stopping power, etc, but because my dad carried it as naval aviator in WWII and because I grew up learning to shoot a government issue model 1911 in the 1970s. It's cool, it's classic, it's American and I don't apologize for it.

😮 Over the years I have carried many different types of calibers and types of pistols but the most comfortable one was the 1911 45. I have only 9 round capacity 8+1 . I have a 1936 colt 1911 and a 1995 Kimber Custom ll 1911. The 1936 shots 1 inch to the left at 75 yards. The Kimber Custom ll is dead on . I have been shooting the 1911's since 1968 and have had no issues with malfunctioning of either of the 2 that I own. I trained with the 1911 45 in the military for competition matches. So I think that's the reason I like the 45 caliber best. I have had a 1911 chambered in 9mm but I wasn't as accurate with it. Of course both calibers fmj will through a person and possibly hit another . So I have loaded my ammo with the 185 gr. Gold Dot at 1,100 fps. will mushroom and not go all the way through a 200 lb. person. Laws are changing or in the process that you cannot use hollow point ammunition. I dread that day because a fmj could go through 2 or more people. PS: The trigger cannot be better on the 1911. I do not like plastic pistols. Completely disabled the Kimber has 101 parts none of them are plastic.

You can buy extended mags for a 1911. I discovered this while running a ranch on the Texas/Mexico border. I wanted to carry my 1911 because I’d been attacked by hogs and javelina. I also wanted a higher capacity because of the foreign exchange students I ran into a couple days a week who were running drugs. I open carried my sig 1911 with a 10 rnd mag with an extra one on my belt. Never had any feed issues with the mags

45 acp served my country well in two world wars, korean war and vietnam war. That's a good enough reason to carry it. Facts, from war veterans, it's about speed and shot placement regardless what caliber you carry. If you get your shot in first, on target vitals, you survive the engagement.

Interesting. Some 40 or so years ago I started my carry journey with a 9mm. over the years I've read Evan Marshall's study of actual cases of 1 shot stops with torso hits. A good 9mm HP will be nearly the same as a .45 230gr. hardball in performance. Take modern bullet design/performance of the .45, it's has a edge if you use a lower weight and better velocity. Just physics. I still carry 9mm a lot, also .40 S&W, and my .45 ACP. The .45 gives me superb accuracy, the others do fine.The pistol is a higher end brand and model, it does not disappoint. Practice to get ragged, one hole groups at 8 yds, semi-slow fire with everything you carry, then work on speed, you'll be fine. Learn to accurately double-tap.

Use to be the biggest difference was capacity. Now, Ive got a SAR K2 .45 that has standard 14 round mags. I added +2 extensions, now I rocking 16+1 of .45 in a full size handgun. If size is a problem, they make it in a compact version too, SAR K2C.
