Although President Trump stands accused of paying a woman to remain silent, one hundred years ago another Republican President was paying two women to be silent concerning his affairs with them. Our 29th President may have been having multiple affairs simultaneously, as Florence Harding’s biographer claims the President maintained as many as seven mistresses. The Republican National Committee even spent $25,000 to send the mistress and her husband on an extensive travel trip to the Far East during the 1920 presidential campaign. Unfortunately for the President, he was an ardent love letter writer, some as long as 40 pages, and his mistress kept the letters. They were discovered decades later, and subsequently sealed for 50 years by an Ohio Judge and now housed at the Library of Congress. A current national archivist describes the letters as “wild, impassioned, heated, and salacious.” Worse, the President’s primary mistress, with whom he carried on this multi-decade affair, may have been a German Spy. This video, using original film and photos, documents President Warren G. Harding’s affairs with two women, his efforts to keep them silent, and takes you inside the letters for an intimate look at our President and his affairs.
