My grandmother was there. She was in her cellar and survived unhurt but her house was gone, My uncle had a mortuary in Wichita and ran an ambulance so he was called out. He assisted several injured people. He told grandma she had to stay in the cellar until he could come back and get her.

When I was a little girl, my mom purchased a book for me about natural disasters because she knew I was fascinated by tornadoes. The chapter about tornadoes featured the story of the 1955 Udall tornado. One part of it that stuck out was the story from a police officer. He talked about being parked in his cruiser and the roof of a house nearby lifted and the pieces of it went up and down like a wave. I'm 37 now, and I have never been to Kansas, but I have never forgotten about town and residents of Udall.

I think I have that book. The chapter about Udall scared the crap out of me when I was little.

I live in Udall. It’s a pretty neat little town, it’s come a long way since the tornado.

My dad was stationed at an air force base and searched for bodies after the tornado. We live in Baltimore. I'm 43 and I've heard about this tornado all my life. My dad is 82 now....and was in Berlin post war....said look like a bomb. He was affected by it.

This is just devastating. Rest in Peace to your brother and others who died. It was sad to see how young your brother was. I can only imagine what it was like.

I'm a Keely, and a lot of my family was part of the community around that area (udall, rock, Winfield). They all farmed around that part... my great grandfather's brother was the sheriff of udall at that time.... most of all the pics of the disaster came from the keely/sheriff archives... my great grandfather's sister was injured and was found in a ditch of the highway with a 2x4 sticking through the middle of her stomach...my dad was just a boy during that time and remembers standing outside in the dark in rock Kansas on the farm beside his mom (grandma) while they watched the monster tornado as the lightening lit up the sky and destroyed the town...

Oh my, I just happened upon this video. Dale’s mother was my mother’s first cousin. We lived in Augusta at the time of the tornado. I was about 5 years old and have been terrified of tornadoes since that night. I remember seeing the damage in Udall after the storm and hearing the adults describing what happened. Thank you for sharing your experience.

That's so strange. My dad got in a wreck years ago and he said he felt the same feeling. He flew off his bike and said it felt like someone gently set him on the ground.

Thank you for sharing your story. I'm sorry for your loss. Yes, God only allows what we can handle and protects us by helping us learn how to protect ourselves from harm and he protects those that die by means of the resurrection hope which also comforts relatives and friends of those who died.

This is just about as fascinating as Robert Shaw's U.S.S. Indianapolis speech in Jaws.

This is one of the best testimonies I've ever heard in my life. God bless you thank you for posting this. In a scientific world were unbelievers try to squish the faith of many, this testimony itself is proof that Jesus Christ is God Almighty and He can even save you from an F5 tornado. There is nothing to hard for our God to do.
