Truly was an ugly win. With Jeff George being the starter in his second year, he couldn't grab into Jon Gruden's West Coast offense. In that year, Jeff has said he ignored the off. coordinator and run his own plays on 3rd down. Gruden pulled Jeff and the Raiders to an 8-8 season. The following season, Gruden and the Raiders made a trade to get future MVP in Rich Gannon.

I was a Chargers fan and remember this game and the 1998 season well. This was a typical game. The Chargers had the best defense in the league, great special teams and a good running game. But their passing game was atrocious. They scored more than 20 points only once in the season. People who didn't see Ryan Leaf on a regular basis have no idea just how awful he was.

I remember this game vividly...fell asleep on it with my Raiders down 6-0. Woke up just in time to see Wade "Deadpool" Wilson's bomb to James Jett. It was an atrocious game to watch live...just awful. Thing is, the game in 2000 wasn't much better...it was 6-2 until Rich Gannon threw a TD to Andre Rison with about two minutes left to win 9-6. Raiders and Chargers played their share of those games during the 90's. 9-7 in San Diego in 1991. 12-6 on Monday Night Football in 1995. 12-7 in 1993. Definitely not the 80's shootouts during the Plunkett/Fouts days.
