I Have sasquatch feet and need super wide shoes with an unnaturally high instep. Almost no shoe brand carries a 4-5E width. Wide sketchers always fit. And if I want to just buy a size that fits on width and not care about anything else I'm usually looking at a size 16, which again no one carries.

They kept moving so they were always in the room with me.

The Tabi "ninja"split toe shoes don't have a fashionable origin. They are usually used in construction as style of work shoe in Japan. The split toe allows for greater dexterity and balance which is important when building high above the ground. They also usually are worn with steel toes in them.

Ok there’s some slander I can’t accept in this video, sketchers aren’t just functional they are nigh indestructible, and they extremely comfortable. Honestly I don’t even think most of them are that ugly, they are often bland and derivative, but there are some cute ones. Then there’s the fila disruptor 2, my favorite shoes are fila disruptors 2 Iridescents. They are good looking shoes with a very unique look, I genuinely believe they are only hated as much are they are now is because “teenage girls hatred syndrome ” where anything that teen girls like is disproportionately hated (boy bands are good example).

The crocs I wear used to be my dad's and not only are they as old as I am, they have virtually no tread left on the bottom so they've become my greatest slipping hazard but I use and abuse and love them so much
I can tell the Puma Makoshi's weird ass sole design is basically an exaggeration of typical jika tabi sole design and that's why it looks so weird. The horizontal soft rubber tread on jika tabi allows the shoe to flex up and down substantially with the sole creasing in the troughs in the tread; and the Makoshis tread design is basically this same idea, but with the tread enlarged as much as possible

This is bc as the original commenter suggested they require u to adjust to them overtime and will damage ur feet if not but did not disclose this fact anywhere despite likely knowing better. At the time they were selling for abt $100 and the class action suit led to all who purchased being eligible for a $20-50 refund which is basically the court admitting that both sides have some valid points. Hope this helps!

"Beauty is subjective" is just not that true. Beauty is something that can be very objective and there are almost always constants in regards to what is beautiful or not throughout history. Deviations from the norm are normally pushed by influential minorities, such as elite ruling classes or leaders of certain induestries. A good exmaple of this is modern architecture, the general public overwhelmingly dislike modern buildings when asked and yet it is pushed on us relentlessly by architects who have gone down some fringe rabbit hole that only people in that industry seem to care about.

as a product designer, that has done a tiny bit of work in the shoe industry, I can look at something and go wow I hate that but still accept it has merit, like Apple’s design (as I type on an iPhone, yes I am a hypocrite). I loathe the smooth round box that everything is because it’s boring. I must admit, I adore when companies actually make something different even if it doesn’t go well it’s so refreshing in a world of sameness and safeness. In my mind the worst things one can do when designing a visually important product (obviously there are worse things over all and even in design too) are make it boring, frustrating and not functional. Does it not do its intended purpose? is interacting with it not intuitive? Does it lack visual interest? Many of those shoes are visually interesting, even if an eyesore to some, assuming they don’t cause psychological damage to put on, they are not frustrating, and many are functional shoes (maybe not comfortable but can be worn and waked in) and those that aren’t very functional seem to be intended to function as an art piece accessory, like jewellery for your feet. So very few committed crimes my parameters for unsuccessful design that I hold myself to. Therefore I can’t honestly say they failed to execute a shoe, I can say some of those make me question my career path.
