Are the small cichlids in the Oscar tank sacrificial? They look too small to survive.

I have a two Veija argentea they are babies that have grown up together siblings undoubtedly but a male and female as they’ve grown it’s clear. I’m hoping to breed them. They are gorgeous! I also love my red Veija he’s my buddy. All alone tried tank mates and they beat him up or he beat them up 🤷♀️ I am his mate now. He’s right by me in my living room every day. We discuss things and play little games. My husband thinks I’m nuts. Hahaha

I have a 125 with 2 electric blue acaras and a blood parrot. How big should I let them get before adding a juvenile oscar?
@PrimeTimeAquatics9 ай бұрын
Big enough not to get eaten : -)
@lizaquiring71759 ай бұрын
Obviously. They are too big to be eaten now at 2", but in six months, will they still be too big to be eaten? An Oscar grows a lot faster than acaras.

@primetimeaquatics Very elegant fish in this video. Would you reccomend feeding baby brine shrimp to 3 small adult yellow lab cichlids I'd like to breed. Is this a good way to have success as they are mostly herbivores from what I've read but also heavy bug eaters idk attempting to avoid malawi bloat aswell. They are currently eating northfin veggie and hikari but ive heard you feed your cichlids bbs 2 times a day in your tanks wondering if its good idea? ( I also have harchery and grow out tank for the baby brine shrimp id like to experiment) there is also a dwarf cichlid bristlenose and 3 snails in with them. Thank you
@PrimeTimeAquatics Жыл бұрын
I don't think they would eat the baby brine - too small for them. I feed all my fish smaller than about 2" LBB though! For the yellow labs I would keep them on a mix of flake and pellets - eventually they will breed if water conditions are good.

Something to note, vieja is a placeholder genus made qs the cichlasoma junk taxa was being brok n up and has since been wplit up alot. Today the silver cichlid is known as Maskaheros argentea, they are quite a bit less bulky than most of the greater vieja group and are more specialised towardsbsand sifting. In general if you want to keep any vieja threre ar a fw points worth noting. 1. Vieja are not active or ambush hunters, so unless you put fish that fit in their mouths in with them most agression will be within their own species. 2. All vieja are to a degree vegetarian and will do very well if given some greens as part of their diet but will be prone to obesity if given too much protein. 3. Most Vieja species crossbreed very easily so BE CAREFUL when breeding or buying. In general, a lovely group of gish to keep.

Viega is old lady in spanish, at least that's what I was told. The discus is the best fish for me at least because yes, we can keep live plants with them.
@PlainsPup8 ай бұрын
Vieja is indeed “old lady” in Spanish. These fish are called that because as they grow, they get wrinkles in their faces, reminiscent of the wrinkles of an old lady.
