I'd like to note that Sans doesn't know when a reset happens, he just knows that they can happen, and most likely have, this is even more demoralizing, because it's like groundhog day, except you don't remember. You still know it repeats, but you never remember. If he remembered, then like Flowey he'd likely eventually abuse it in some sense, to either help, or learn something.

He is aware something is resetting, assumes it is you, and then bases what he will do on the one real variable he sees. You. Because to him, everything else will be the same no matter what, but you will change, You will react differently. they didn't "always want to" kill everyone. especially not monsterkind. chara and asriel were just kids, and chara only wanted to save asriels kingdom and set them free. chara only harbored a grudge against humans because of how they treated them. they DID love their family. and they did love asriel, but chara obviously went too far, as a child they definitely didn't think things through. in the genocide route they are desensitized to what you do. essentially they just go along with what you do, all they can do is guide you, no matter what you do.

This!! UT has so much depth to its characters, I don’t get how people don’t look past the surface of Chara’s choices, esp when we only *really* meet them when they’re dead and corrupted. They’re a reflection of the player especially in the geno route, so you can’t really blame them for just following whatever you did imo

It's also good to note that, implication wise, Asgore and Chara are supposed to have the stronger bond paralleled in Asriel and Toriel. So by the end of the genocide run Chara has become desensitized enough to kill their dad and brother, and shows a grudging disrespect at the player who would then try to "abort" a genocide route by refusing their offer of ending the world.

Yes?! I can’t believe that there’s still people who believe that Chara was born evil or something! It’s so completely missing the point about Undertale - that no one is evil here! That people are hurt and they do bad things but they still deserve happiness and kindness! That everyone who does bad things in the game feel scared and alone and they deserve a gentle hand! I know it’s dumb to feel so emotional about a game but this is like, the central message? and people are still missing it? I can almost understand how the fandom got this rabid because I WANT TO SHAKE PEOPLE UNTIL THEY UNDERSTAND THIS. Chara is a CHILD and they’re shown so little mercy by some parts of the fandom. They were SCARED, okay, they could have taken the easy route and killed Asriel for his soul if they wanted to just slaughter humans that much but THEY DIDN’T, because they LOVED their family, and how are people still not understanding this?! How?!

you're entirely right; they outright say that the overflow of LV and EXP is what empowered them to speak to the player and says that the player made them realize their purpose for reincarnation was "*power. with your guidance, we eradicated the enemy and became strong.*" chara is a child who was manipulated by the player into believing their sole purpose was power, and gets their spiteful revenge for the death of their entire family by stealing your happy ending from you and taking it for their own.
@BlackNemesis13
@BlackNemesis13 10 ай бұрын
Um, no. If you read the tapes carefully, Chara was always manipulative of Asriel. She was never a true friend. She was using him the entire time for her own motives. A true friend wouldn't keep making Asriel do things that he wasn't comfortable doing. Ariel was too young and naive to know that he was being manipulated, gaslit, and used. There's strong narcissist/empath vibes going on. You're right in that there is much more here than meets the surface, but what's below that surface is sinister, not kind. If you're not aware of what manipulation, gaslighting, narcissism, control, and other unhealthy behavior looks like, then the players can get just as manipulated as Asriel into thinking that Chara was good because it looks that way on the surface. Maybe Chara wasn't COMPLETELY evil in the beginning, but even Ariel admits later that she was never a really a nice person. She had some sinister intentions going on right from the beginning. And Asgore and Toriel are the easiest people in the world to manipulate this way so Chara being close to Asgore means nothing. They're not going to see anything bad with Chara unless something absolutely forces them to. They wanted to see Chara as their good, happy child, so Chara played into that and showed them what they wanted to see. All the while, she was basically the Macaulay Culkin from The Good Son.

In my perspective, Asriel is the angel in the pacifist route and you/Frisk & Chara are the angel in the gen0cide route. Asriel literally turns into an angelic figure in the final boss fight and he is the one who broke the barrier. We only helped them. And the latter is obvious. Something interesting I recently learned regarding the enemy and boss sprites during battles - apparently there’s a correlation between how much an enemy moves in battle and how much malice they have towards you. Enemies like Asriel and photoshop Flowey, move a ton during battle, and even Asgore, Undine, and Megaton move a lot. The only two enemies who are completely motionless are Toriel and Papyrus, as they actually have no true intent of doing you any harm.

On the topic of Chara...she definitely isn't evil...but also definitely isn't really good... She's in a morally gray area to be honest. Despite what many people think, she's not a killer. It's not her fault when you do the genocide route. That's yours. You killed those people, and saying it was her defeats the point and genius of the genocide route's inclusion. She shows up at the end of genocide because she's just going with what you said to do. They're following your example in killing people. She just goes a bit extreme. When you say not to destroy the world, she gets upset because then she wonders what the point of killing all her friends and family was. She's angry you did it all ultimately for nothing. But I digress. Chara definitely hated humans, as she probably had some bad history with them. While she wasn't evil or really a terrible person, she felt hurt by humanity and wanted to get back at them. She's a small child lashing out in anger. That's what she is at her core. It doesn't make her bad necessarily, just misguided. Thanks for reading my Ted Talk.

a note about chara we dont actually know very much about them its hard to say they wanted to escape to kill all humans or really what their goals were chara wouldnt have had any way to know they'd have half the control over asriel and it make much more sense for them to just kill asriel and go to the surface if they wanted to simply kill people. personally i think chara was just a messed up kid who either learned to be a better person in pacifist or learned to be an even worse person in genocide frisk see's chara's memories and despite being long dead their presence is felt through the game no matter what route you do.

It’s never said or implied anywhere that Chara wanted to kill monsters. Or even that they’d want to commit genocide on humanity; they hate humanity, but hatred doesn’t always mean murder. They likely just wanted monsters to go free, and maybe wipe out the village after they tried to kill Asriel (And them by proxy)

not sure why people are using she/her pronouns for Chara since only they/them (and arguably it/its) are used for them in canon anyways, there's a few reasons i don't think that Chara is evil, and i'll list them in no particular order: 1) Chara, as they appear at the end of a no mercy run, explicitly states that they were confused at the start of the game, and fixated on killing monsters only after observing the actions of Frisk/the player. (they also might be soulless, like flowey, which would also change things) 2) Having Chara just be Evil would be at odds with most of the game's messaging about hope and forgiveness 3) Chara is a child, likely no older than 13, and it is implied that their trip to Mt. Ebott was, if not an outright suicide attempt, something similar to one. which suggests that they might have legitimate grievances with humanity (which tracks with them being a nonbinary kid in the twenty-teens) 4) For a kid who has possibly been mistreated by humans their whole life, only to find themselves among monsters who nonetheless treat them much better, it's not unreasonable for them to conclude that humans (or at least adult humans) are Just Bad, particularly after learning about how the monsters ended up in the underground in the first place. 5) of course, Chara themself is human, and in their view may therefore be a threat to their new family (there's absolutely no reason no think that Chara excluded themself from their hatred of humanity). Thus Chara's plan eliminates a threat to their family and simultaneously frees them from their captivity, at the (to them) trivial cost of seven human lives (including their own) 6) Their chosen method of suicide is both agonizing and slow, why would they use a method like that if not to make people think it was an illness, and therefore not something that could have been prevented, sparing toriel and asgore from thinking that they failed Chara. 7: the way asriel tells you about the fact that they had split control suggests that this isn't widely known (which makes sense, because absorbing souls has never been really observed before). That means that as far as Chara knew, they'd just be dead once their plan started, not in a position to get revenge (not personally at least) 8) i saved this for last because it's based on something that's technically speculation; It is _very_ heavily implied that Chara is present with frisk in _all_ routes, and has some influence over the narration text there too. The evidence for this is extensive but highlights include the description of Chara's bed in new home: "what a comfortable bed! if you lay down on it, you might never get up again." while the other bed in the same room has a fairly generic description, and the fact that the player (and possibly frisk) experience flashbacks to chara's life on multiple occasions, such as just before the mad dummy fight in waterfall, on the game over screen, and at the end of the asriel fight. They only become malicious if you kill everybody though. extra) regarding asriel's "not the greatest person" line, I think that's not an understatement on his part, he's being pretty literal. It seems like asriel kind of put chara on a bit of a pedestal, and was largely blind to their flaws.

Check isn't really evil if you loon deeper. I won't take too much time to explain, so if you want to see a more detailed version, there is a video. Just search 'Chara isn't the villain' or something similar. But summarizing it, Chara has been influenced by the player slowly throughout the genocide route, and only until you kill Flowey did they fully turn 'evil'. There is more hints to that and the video points out a lot of them.

"They try to kill the humans that attack Asriel on the surface," I don't see how this is evidence that Chara is evil? Asriel literally died because he wouldn't defend himself and was unable to run away. Furthermore, it seems pretty presumptuous to claim that Chara only freed the monsters to kill humans. Yes, Chara hated humans, but it's implied that's due to being mistreated by them (Asriel references them coming to the Underground for an 'unhappy reason', thus implying them falling was either a suicide attempt or because they were chased up the mountain). They also clearly loved their family? They drew pictures as gifts for their parents (one of the two flower drawings in Asgore's home is labeled: for King Dad. Why would Asriel call his father that, as opposed to Chara who met Asgore as the king of the underground and might not be used to referring to him as solely "dad"). They only discovered that buttercups were poisonous because they were attempting to do something nice for their father. They KILLED THEMSELVES so that monsters could be free from the underground. Also, the game makes a pretty clear distinction between the player and the characters. Chara isn't the killer in the genocide route, YOU are. In the same way that Frisk is not evil despite the numerous "barely not genocide" neutral runs that exist. In the same way that Flowey is (mostly) wrong about Chara being back in the pacifist run, he's wrong in the genocide run. Furthermore, Chara's dialouge at the end reveals that they were always there, narrating the game. The genocide run just gave them more power and form, for some reason (there's multiple different theories). Chara does not turn against you when you are pacifist, in fact some of the narration can be almost encouraging.

If you do genocide twice she says how she doesnt understand and to try sparing at least some enemies.

Just my opinion about the player being a huge part of the story and fourth wall stuff. I feel like the game doesn't really pull any fourth walls that are SPECFICALLY the player. For instance, DDLC has the ending where one of them talks to you at the end, the real you that's hiding behind the player character. Nothing of note like this happens in Undertale where while some characters know it's a game, it all feels like it's related to the few in the game. What I mean by that is at either end of the mercy or genocide route, Asriel either talks to specifically his fallen friend that was the first human, or Chara, who talks to seemly Frisk. No where does it directly reference the player or at least grabbing your PC file name. But honestly, even through I hardly see any point of how the player could be part of it due to the game in certain sections feeling like it's the characters that are spoken to, I can understand why most see it as wall breaking fourth-walls with the game mechanics being an esstienal part of Undertale, Flowey manipulating data files, Chara bringing back the game itself and mentioning other worlds to move on to, and the fact that even Sans studies about it without remembering stuff, but still showing that he understands it 's about timelines and space stuff.

Good video, but I'd just like to point out that the phrase "photon readings negative" does not have to imply some kind of anti-photons. This is a common misconception in the public sphere, but the word 'negative' in scientific lingo is NOT always synonymous with 'anti-' or 'bad'. Instead, it often just means 'non-existent'. For instance, a common symptom of clinical depression is called 'negative Symptoms' as in, 'lacking certain behaviors that non-depressed individuals tend to exibit'. Similarly, photon readings negative is just scientist for 'no photons detected'

Chara it's not evil because is just a child! When them die, all that them seen was human, whom already hurt them in past, hurt again to his friend, so them decided to attack back. Or at least, that's one of a lot of theories! I honestly believe that them wanted to take enough human soul to get free the monsters. Not so different from what Ashore did. Indeed, when Frisk fell down, Chara was already there. There is a theory, that I think it's really relateble, Wich says that Chara is the narrator. We can see that narrator's tone change when we chose the genocide path and them start to talk from "you" to "me". Chara it's not evil, it's a spirit that learn from our own action, that can became evil or good. That's the reason why we can give them our name. Chara is the angel, WE are the angel, and we can choose if we're the angel of death or the one that is going to get all monsters free and end the war forever.

@chesrieldreemon824 2 жыл бұрын
While Frisk could be the angel behind the Deltarune legend, I feel that it doesn't add up since they mention an angel that has seen the surface will descend from above and bring them all freedom. Frisk doesn't really add up as while they are from the surface, the word "seen" feels more like someone who has been underground. Frisk through, has mostly been in the underground for an entire day, and to me at least, it just doesn't make sense. I believe it might be two other characters, those being the Dreemurr children, Asriel and Chara. Asriel was born in the underground for quite a while and would be one to see the surface, and he later with Frisk's help in the underground would break the barrier, freeing all monsters from being underground. Chara on the other hand, while mostly not the one who kills all monsters as Frisk (or if you believe in the player being part of the story) does it, they do still end what is supposedly the entire game, which can be argued as freeing the monsters from the mortal realm. Not to mention, they also could be argued as having seen the surface since they have been adopted into the Dreemurr family and were also seen as the hope for both humans and monsters from Asgore himself. And indeed, Frisk does either help the monsters or kill most of them. But, they never truly did free the world or the underground in a magical or mortal sense. They more or less just got involved in what one could say at a lucky time. Stopping Flowey from resetting, potienally waking up Chara from the dead with their determination that sees Frisk take three routes, two where they could reside as a narrator, and one where they take action after enough LV has been gained from EXP of killed monsters to end the world. One could also say that Asriel has the opposite effect of that being actual love gained from the monsters, as he is brought back to his senses with a new soul that is slowly degrading even after freeing all the monsters in a slow, but short amount of time right before he becomes Flowely again. Even with this new soul gone through, he still remembers how it felt, and he uses that as guidance after everything of the pacifist route.

Dude, the whole point of the game is to make it where you're not longer a player of the game, you're actually part of the game. It tries to bridge the gap between player and characters in the game.

Editing, Analysis and Explanation are great. But English is not my first language, I had trouble understanding the words 😅, so maybe try speaking just a little slower or maybe use a little bit clearer pronunciation. It wasn't bad or anything, I loved your video. I hope that doesn't come off as offensive, as I said, English is Not my first language.

I wonder, could Sans theoretically teleport out of the underground? 8:08 Also I disagree with your analysis on Papyrus here. I don’t see the people of Snowdin ever being cold to Papyrus. The shopkeeper herself remarks that Papyrus and Sans are entertaining and the town is a lot more interesting with them around. His mailbox is empty because he actually reads his mail, unlike Sans who has tons of mail he never reads

sans’ magic is still weaker than the barrier, that includes his teleportation most likely so he probably can’t teleport through the barrier even if he could he just gave up on life so it doesn’t matter to him

While I will admit that I updated the title to try to get more recommendations from Chapter 2's release, the video was made before chapter 2 came out, so there really wasn't as much Deltarune-related stuff to talk about. I do mention Deltarune some in the video though. I want to make a follow-up video that is just about Deltarune, IDK if that will actually happen as I'm pretty busy though

For anyone saying that frisk and by extension chara are non binary, that's not exactly the case. It's left up to interpretation as to what gender they are
@kidddddddddddddddddddddddddddd
@kidddddddddddddddddddddddddddd 2 жыл бұрын
I think the fact Asriel uses they/them for Chara and all the monsters use they/them for frisk, and it being mentioned both humans are their own people, kinda disprove the whole "gender left up to interpretation" thing. I think out of anyone, the human's close friends would know their genders.
@themadxd1274
@themadxd1274 2 жыл бұрын
@@kidddddddddddddddddddddddddddd you know they/them is also used for unknown people (like mentioning an unknown artist), meaning they/them isn't only for NB people and since it isn't confirmed which is which it safe to assumed it left up to interpretation since it is an rpg, like many other things in undertale
@kidddddddddddddddddddddddddddd
@kidddddddddddddddddddddddddddd 2 жыл бұрын
@@themadxd1274 I do know, the point I'm trying to make is that the people in game who personally know the humans still use they/them for both frisk and Chara. Why would Asriel use they/them for Chara if they weren't genderless in some sense or they/them actually being Chara's pronouns? Chara isn't unknown to Asriel, it makes no sense for him to use they/them for Chara if they were a boy/girl. And in the conversation in which Asriel refers to Chara, he isn't talking to the player, he's talking to Frisk. I understand maybe why people may interpret Frisk as being up for interpretation, as we're under the pretense that Frisk is just the player for majority of the game, but Chara in particular being "up for interpretation" makes no sense to me from an in-world standpoint. I feel as if their genders were truly up to interpretation, we would've had an option at the beginning of the game on whether Frisk and Chara would be boys or girls like in pokemon. But that's just my opinion, I think humans in undertale/deltarune have no societal structure of gender like how monsters do, especially cause Kris is the same way. (Ps, I'm not trying to argue or start anything, just wanna share my view point on the gender up to interpretation thing. Sorry for this being so long too lol)

@@kidddddddddddddddddddddddddddd I get your point, but I believe the logic continues to chara is because chara is literally a sprite flip of frisk so it's natural for a person to apply the same aspect of character design from frisk to chara (i.e. up to interpretation)
