@@HelloHiHowAreYou18493 it actually went pretty well. The course was a half marathon loop that we had to do twice. When I passed the half way mark of the race I was on track to complete it in 3:30mins. But then around 30km mark I had to take my first walking break but I ended up completing in 4hours 8minutes. I’m very happy with it. I’ve decided to sign up for the race again in September 2025 just so I can focus on building up on my endurance and overall fitness before competing again. After the race I did suffer really bad shin splints in both legs. Even now I’m very quick to getting them but we keep on keeping on

I have a 1/2 I plan to do Dec. 21st and then March 9th the Coast Guard Marathon in North Carolina. I am sooooo nervous and sooooo excited. Starting the half marathon block this week. I went from couch potato who couldn't walk for 1 km without feeling pain on my legs to run 10 km. Also went from 93 kg to 70 kg while following this plan. Before trying this plan, I gave a shot to the 8 week C2K5 training plan, by NHS, but I got overexcited and got myself injured. Had to wait for 2 months before getting back to running. Now, I'm 20 weeks into this training plan - and injury free. So, my main advice to people who want to get started on running is "don't neglect rest time". Thanks for sharing this and all the info you put on your channel!
@ninjashoyo9086 Жыл бұрын
That’s amazing! Are you doing any other training besides the runs included in this plan? I’m also training for my first half in November and I hope to finish it in two hours… right now I’m in the 10K block, increasing my distance. Currently 5K time is 41 minutes and I’m so scared I might not be able to train for 21K after all. I’m more scared for the mental aspect than for the physical.
@rodrigoluizdesouza789 Жыл бұрын
@@ninjashoyo9086 I work out at the gym 5 days a week. All of my trainings in the gym involve at least two core exercises. I don't do Yoga or Pilates, but I'm pretty sure that if I did, I would run faster - but I prefer the gym better, and I'm not concerned with becoming a pro, so I'm happy with how I'm doing at the moment. As for the running training, all I do is aerobic base training, which means I don't do any speed training. My goal now is to go as far as I can. Being fast is not the main focus of my training for the time being. I also have a nutritionist helping me to get my eating habits on point - but I'm not overly concerned about that either, although I try and follow the eating plan as close as I can. I don't know if Ben ever brought this up in his videos, but you shouldn't be too concerned about your time if you are trying to increase the length you run in each session - focus on keep running even if slow. Before you know it, you'll start getting faster naturally, as your body adapts to your running routine. You'll also notice that your body will gravitate around a pace that is comfortable to you. And the more you run, the faster this comfortable pace will become - but you don't need to run at a fast pace in all your tranings, most of your training should be easy. You'll see that, if you show up consistently, your easy pace will also get faster whilst you run is not intentionally fast. My 5k time was around 42 min when I finished the 5k block. When I finished the consolidation period, my time dropped to 28~29 min. And in December last year I managed to finish my first 5k race in 26'16''. My 10k time is around 56'~58' and I'll be on my first 10k race next week - let's see if I manage to decrease my time in race as I did with the 5k one. It'll be an off-road race, so I'm not counting on that this time. I've been training on an off-road route at least once a week since the 5k period. This route has a total ascent of 140m - not a lot if you consider that the path is 10km long, but for me it's quite a challenge to go there and beat those hills everytime I go for a run on the dirt. My advice is: don't get overly stressed about time, unless you want to compete, and winning a race is one of your goals. Just put your trainers and have fun.

@rodrigoluizdesouza7893 ай бұрын
@@SWVergara hello. No, i followed it to the letter. The only adjustments I did was when I was far from home for the long runs - but only when I got to the half marathon block. For 5k and 10k I think this is one of the best training plans I've seen so far. I picked this training plan after a failed attempt at Couch to 5k - it was too hard for me. Ben's plan ease it's way from zero to 5k. Ah, there is one small adjustment I did. I skipped most of the interval trainings - marked in red in the spreadsheet. But I only skipped because I had no interest in getting faster. If you do those, please update us here! Have a wonderful running journey!

It was a 4 loop course with 5, 10, and half marathon races all setting off at various points on the same loops. First 20km was lovely, great atmosphere and lovely views. 3rd loop was hard and last loop was very tough, some walking by then. I wasn’t the last to finish but it was pretty peaceful by then. did this plan 16 weeks than stopped and created an own one. Reasons: - the mileage was increased too fast (10% rule..) in this plan - Ben said one could do a week twice if "needed" but with this, one wont have enough rest-weeks. - i don't like Yoga. :D I tried hard but Yoga & me, we didn't became friends. Maybe somebody else is interested in changing the plan, this is how i do train currently: - 3 weeks 5% increase of mileage every week, fourth week 30% of the runs of week 3. - tue/thurs/sat = run (saturday = long run) - monday = core +/- 40min - wed / friday = prehab 20min & foam rolling - stretching every day where i'm super stiff while drinking coffee - speed is no prioritiy i run with heart rate zones (mostly in zone 2) - if possible, i sleep 30min after every run

What an amazing resource, I really hope more people will see your videos. From what I have seen, you put a ton of work into them, and the quality and content is top notch. Thank you! I'm doing a Garmin training plan, but I will definitely look at your stretching videos, and follow the yoga. I'm only at around 10k distance a few times, and was planning on starting on half marathon but decided I wasn't ready, sounds like that mirrors your advice, I'll be jumping into your half plan as soon as I am ready!

Thanks, Ben! I’ve been following your channel for more than a year now, and I really enjoy your videos. Sensible and very inspiring at the same time. I suffer from a very severe form of asthma, but thanks to a new(-ish) treatment / biological drug, I am able to run. I’m going to follow the marathon part of your training plan and run a full marathon 2021. Currently I run 40-50k a week, four times a week, my long runs are 18-21k. I am really looking forward to this project and have been looking for a straightforward, no-nonsense plan I can follow without things getting too complicated. I think this is it. So, before I turn 54 in July I will get it done :)

Ahhhh thanks Lisen. That’s so good to read. I’m really glad you’re able to train with the new asthma treatment. Mary has asthma too with all sorts of different coloured inhalers! Yes, the plan is a stripped back simple type that hopefully doesn’t overcomplicate things. I hope it helps you. Thanks so much for the kind words and good luck on your journey. Let me know how it all goes 😊👍🏻

Your plans have been fantastic for me Ben, done the 6 week 10k plan four times now. Using the maintenance plan you did earlier in the year at the moment and then for the second time I’m going to use your 12 week plan for the half marathon on the 22nd Feb to get me to the start line for Hackney in May. Just got be better at strength and conditioning in 2021. Thanks for the time and effort you’ve put into the all the plans and happy Xmas to you and Mary and Winnie! 🌲😊

Awesome plan, I began running about a month ago 3 miles was a huge accomplishment with out stopping now I run 5ks four times a week and yeasterday was my longest run at 8.2 miles at a 8:30 pace! I was 215 now down to 190-195 I'm trying to twist it up a bit I think the yoga is going to help recovery alot. I'm looking forward to the results in 40 weeks I'll check back with an update

First, I want to say thank you for this. I found this recently and it has got me out running. I was already working out, but this has gotten me outside, which has led to other obsessions like hiking and mountain biking and I absolutely love it. I have signed up for a 5k in June. I do have a question though (and you may have answered this already, but I couldn't find it, sorry if that's the case). My question is, say I go out to run and the run for the day is 6x 1:30w/2:30r, but I'm only able to do like 4 of those runs before I'm dying... should I attempt that run again, or move on to the next (2k) run?

1:50 in and just had to pause to say this editing and footage is *chef's kiss* Amazing plan. I'm on the 5K plan now and doing well. Heeding the advice to take it slow and don't push it, this is a HUGE temptation in the beginning, but not rushing is paying off now because I'm not tempted to give up. Thank you for this!

Okay then, I put on the lovely dressing gown as directed , then found some delicious pink socks and promptly jumped out my bedroom window ? I am currently lying on my patio facedown with 62 broken bones ! I should be okay though sensi , the hospitals shouldn’t be too busy so I should be fine. Thanks a lot and merry Christmas

You did something crucially different. You jumped out of your window... I flew out of mine! There’s your error right there. I’m sorry this has happened to you BUT on the plus side you have lovely socks and a wonderful dressing gown. So there’s your silver lining right there 😉😂 Merry Christmas 🎄👍🏻

Interesting. I read a book by a coach at our club that showed someone go from zero on a 26 week plan to run their first marathon, then go on to run 2:26. The main points were, it's a long term consistent training (not zero to race in 12-16 weeks) and that most people can achieve a lot more than they think is possible before any limiting factors, like genetics come into play.
@ThisMessyHappy4 жыл бұрын
Totally! I’d say it’s possible in a lot of people for sure BUT my caveat would be that this plan is all about building running in to your lifestyle for life. Those extra weeks are really more about building structure and good habits rather than being absolutely essential in terms of running. But like you say, long term consistency is the key so why not take longer over it. If it’s for life then a few extra weeks are no issues 😊👍🏻 which book is it btw? Sounds good

@@ThisMessyHappy "Improve Your Marathon and Half Marathon Running" By David Chalfen · 2014 He coaches at Serpentine - it's a bit old but the runner case studies in the book really resonated with me as they are real / relatable people with jobs, perhaps not naturally gifted etc. Beyond that, it's not too much of a stretch to have a look at powerof10 after to see further progress.

In 2020 I was ready for Melbourne Marathon but it was cancelled due to covid. In 2021 it was postponed due to covid and I was living in Brisbane and couldn't get there. In 2022 I had covid. In 2023 I had no excuse I was just super unfit. Like, REALLY unfit. Well 2023 was a few weeks ago and I am signed up for 2024. 45 weeks to go. Let's gooooo!

I ran track in high school more for enjoyment than anything else and loved it. I haven't run in about a year and a half now due to sickness/injury, and then the pandemic taking away any ounce of motivation I had. I am much less active now and have gained some weight; every time I try to get back into running I stop after a few days. I feel as if I stumbled upon this channel and program by fate. I am starting tomorrow and I thank you so much for generously laying everything out so clearly!!! I can see it for sure will help with endurance... will it also help with increasing my pace/speed in the long term?
@ThisMessyHappy3 жыл бұрын
Hey Vincenza, I’m glad to have been able to help in some small way. Let me know how you’re getting on. It will definitely help with endurance and eventually pace 😊👍🏻
