The fact that the vanilla game has such an insane level of detail is so exciting! It won't be like CS1 where the cities couldn't keep up with the gameplay, and any real challenge or story had to be made up in your head

100% agree. I played for 2.5 hours last night, going through the game tutorial initially. I played CS1 on xbox and am far removed from my days playing Sim City on PC. I was struggling with the mouse/keyboard controls (and using a mousepad rathertan a free movement mouse) and the tutorial seems to assume you already know most of them. Can't wait to try the landscaping/terrain tools now...maybe I won't make such a mess of things.

One thing I've noticed about North American Cities, is that Western, NA cities are usually split in half between a railroad going through the downtown, while Eastern NA cities aren't. Exception for Western cities being Port cities that were established before the Railroad was built.

One of my favorite Cities Skylines creators. You put SO much thought into not only the layout of your cities, but the aesthetics and long term game. I probably won't buy the game for at least a few weeks or months to wait for some of the performance patches, so this is a great way for me to just learn more about the mechanics of the game and how if differs from the first.

22:00 Parking areas are a snoozed over thing that is super important in CS2.. If you track a couple citizens when they go home from work, you will often see them park on the side of a road AN HOUR away from their home, because there's no other place to put their car.. Citizens walk extremely slowly in CS2, so it wastes a lot of their free time to just go to / from their car. Placing parking lots near their homes allows them more free time, and thus increases happiness, which in turn can increase their wealth level since happier citizens preform better, and thus earn more or can get promoted.

For anyone out there (don’t know if it was put out already). Dedicated turning lanes is somewhat doable with the asymmetrical roads for the two lanes and four lanes. There’s at least one lane dedicated to turning only when mixed with small and medium roads. Also hope they grinding gears to get performance under control. Otherwise very enjoyable game.

Just gotta say thank you so much for this beginner's guide! I never had a problem learning SimCity or CS1 -- but CS2 has been kicking my tail for some reason. I'm following along with this video series ... took me three hours to build through episode 1. Am I slow? ;) I do want to offer one comment, however. The rock star's mansion makes aesthetic sense where you placed it, but half of its influence in terms of enhancing well-being is lost in the river. I went off-script and placed it in a block across the street from the cemetery (quieter neighborhood) and just a block away from the commercial zones. I then landscaped trees around it for privacy. This way 100% of the asset's well-being influence is felt by the cims living around the mansion. Thanks again for the awesome instructional video!

Great learning experience thanks. I'm following along with your design and having a lot of fun with concepts I had missed when playing solo. One catch is when you refer to the "i" button. If you want to remove the overlay after selecting a new building or utility, you can either click once on the 'I' logo at the top left, but simply clicking the 'i' button on your keyboard does NOT work (it only brings up the overlay menu, but doesn't turn it off!). If you prefer to use the keyboard shortcut to remove the overlay, you have to press 'i' on your keyboard, then press the ESCAPE key! Not sure if a patch changed this or if this was like this when you recorded the video 6 months ago.

My one question about CS2/your video is: why flatten? Why not just use the terrain naturally? I get that yes, cities do flatten an area when they can if the cost is favorable but they also stick to the terrain also and excavate an area only when they have to if the cost is high but of course sometimes hills make things look weird in this game, I guess that's what landscaping is for? The cost of terraforming in game doesn't seem to be too bad? I guess its all a matter of preference, what's your thought? You seem to like flatter areas so I presume that's the train of thought you would go with.

To be honest, I would seriously not recommend using a grid design for your city, it's easy at first, quick and can have lots of building space, but once your city becomes a reasonable size traffic will become a serious problem, that would only really be fixed by redesigning your whole city.

Grids are better for traffic
@utter_cringe7 ай бұрын
@@Skibidy_rizzler_ a system of crossroads and traffic lights stopping cars all the time whilst they build up is not good for traffic, the best choice would be a streamlined system of roads going where they need to and mainly trying to use T junctions or if unable using a roundabout. But to the point, the block system is one of the worst choices for a city of reasonable size. A quick edit for an e.g: For a place with houses try having a larger arterial road, smaller collectors afterwards and then on small local roads cul de sac's for getting to the house, it's less space efficient but it's much better for traffic.

I want districts to matter. Where you can make separate towns even if they are further away. And you can check each towns money input, population/ages/wealth/education/RCI wealth distribution & special RCI/ utility use and more, all in one easy window. there was a mod, that wis no longer supported. It added more info on districts and i did a pretend competition based on wealth of the land, income, education and population size. I had too much fun with it, and really got me to enjoy the simplicity of making towns in my city. After the mod went under, i lost interest slowly. I dont like the traffic simulation. I still think its important, just too much of an emphasis on having perfect city and suburbia.
